We looked good in the first but man we look like ass right now. Larkin might be the best player on the ice tonight though so that's nice. He's really turned it on the last few games.
When four of our five guys out to protect a lead with one minute left are E, Marchenko, Miller and Glendening, you are just asking to give up the lead.
The number of times that Mickey and Ken mentioned Kronwall's knee and the fact that he will never be 100% again is TERRIFYING. We must be fielding the worst defense in the league. I'm surprised w/ Ericsson, who is looking better, but I'm pretty disappointed in Marchenko. I would love to see Sproul get back in the lineup in place of Marchenko. He brings the same size and physicality and has shown, in a small sample, that he is responsible in joining the rush. Also, is anyone else disappointed with Tatar so far? I was tough on Goose earlier, but he does a lot of little defensive things that don't jump out that have really changed my perception. But Tatar, and even Sheahan and Abby, almost look lost.
I've found Tatar hit or miss, but he's shooting like 3%.. That can't last long. He's at least driving possession, more so than most of our forwards
Yeah Tatar is getting chances, just not converting. Just based on eye test though, Abby and Sheahan certainly look god awful. Larkin has really been good though, so there is the one positive I can take away from the first month of the season.
Yeah, they've been bad. Makes it all the more maddening when blashill says some bullshit about AA needing to do more... The fuck man? What about the other assholes sucking ass
Gotta be bad to be good. Not making the playoffs, so mine as well bottom out and get top 5 pick. Hopefully Howard continues to play well so we can trade him.
I agree that a top 10 pick is ideal at this point. I don't think we will trade Howard though. I think it is much likelier that the Vegas team takes him in the Expansion Draft.
I don't think a team will commit any assets for Howard until after the expansion draft. Since the Vegas team has to be cap compliant, Howard's deal will be very valuable in hitting the floor. All the other goalies better than him will be protected so if Howie continues playing well this year, that deal will be the tip of the iceberg.
Probably close but they also have to draft a player from each team. My hunch is there will be more desirable targets from both PIT and TB
I don't think anyone left unprotected by Tampa will be more valuable than Bishop. But it's hard to say at this point.
Lots of time between now and next summer. Teams still have to make decisions trying to win this year, so a team like, I dunno, Nashville or Dallas could decide a goaltending upgrade is worth it.
So who are the top prospects in the upcoming draft? And when can we start talking about firing Holland? Guy has been awful for past 5 years.
Sounds like Marchenko is out for a while. This team is just so bad that it truly doesn't matter. I honestly hope we lose 7 or 8 in a row but the kids play well.
Marchenko has hit his ceiling, to me he is a depth guy...don't get why XO and Sproul aren't in every night.
ESPN stuff on expansion draft: The Red Wings only have one player with a full no-move, and that's Frans Nielsen -- so he's automatically on their protection list. Second-year forwardDylan Larkin is exempt from the expansion draft. Right now I see the Wings going with a 7-3-1 protection list because they have so many forwards who are eligible for the expansion draft even with Larkin exempt. Forward Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou, for example, are eligible for the expansion draft as third-year pros, so the Wings either have to protect them or expose them. Detroit has some tough choices up front. Let's assume they protect Nielsen,Henrik Zetterberg, Gustav Nyquist, Justin Abdelkader, Tomas Tatar and Riley Sheahan; that leaves them with one spot left, for either Mantha, Athanasiou,Darren Helm or Luke Glendening. Three of those guys will have to be exposed. On defense it's more more obvious, where the Wings will protect Danny DeKeyser and Niklas Kronwall and then one of of the following: Mike Green,Alexei Marchenko, Jonathan Ericsson, Xavier Ouellet or Ryan Sproul. Now, let me throw this out there: If you're Detroit, do you consider exposing aging stars Zetterberg or Kronwall? Zetterberg is 36, with four more years on his deal after this season at a $6.08 million cap hit. Kronwall, 35, has two more years at a $4.75 million cap hit. Would Vegas take them? And regardless of that decision, is it too delicate for the Wings to even consider, given what these two legends have done for the franchise? Either way, I predict the Wings will try to beef up their blueline between now and March 1 -- because that's been a goal for a while anyway -- and trade away a forward or two in doing so, which obviously will impact their expansion-draft decisions. In goal, the Wings must decide whether to protect Jimmy Howard or Petr Mrazek. A year ago, that would have seemed like an easy choice. But Howard has been terrific this season, which has spiced up that decision. Detroit also has minor-league options in goal, so trading one of its NHL goalies between now and the expansion draft is another another potential route.
I'm no hockey expert, but it would be ridiculous to protect Zetterberg at the expense of exposing a young player.
you have to be smart and let the guys with bad contracts be exposed and hope they don't take them. Howeva.... It might be attractive to take a guy like Z or Kronwall as a vet on what will probably be a young team. They might take a big salary hit to add a guy like that.
That wouldn't be bad for Detroit though because neither of those players are with there contracts at this point
it's not a bad financial move. it's a bad PR move though. Who thought we'd open the new stadium without Z or Dats???
Just leak that Kronwall and Zetterberg would retire if LV took them on. Don't protect them. And don't call Kronwall a legend.
Kenny has needed to package some of our players in a deal for awhile, maybe this will finally be the catalyst. Lol who am I kidding.
Hated the Ott signing originally. Since being here he's been an offensive liability, a PKing liability, and takes the stupidest penalties possible. Waste of a roster spot.
