Isn't his team the one that is stacked because Putin owns it and everyone just lets them do what they want? Or am I thinking of a different team?
That still makes me laugh. I can't imagine anyone in Russia actually thinks the league treats them the same, do they?
We should really trade for Ryan Callahan. TB needs to shed salary and we can put him on the third line. I bet we could get a 2 back for taking that deal.
he moved back home to be with his daughter. After wining a couple Cups and being the best player on our team for, I dunno, 10 years? We owe him more than he owes us.
If Holland takes the Oilers job, it sounds like Tyler Wright will go with him. That opens the door for Al Murray to come over from Tampa (if he does indeed have an out clause for when Yzerman left) Director of Scouting.
Sadly the Abdelkader contract might not even be in the top 8 of bad contracts signed by Ilitch owned teams this decade. Zimmerman, Fielder, Franzen, Fischer, Weiss, Cabrera, V-Mart... all were terrible. Anibal?
Nothing wrong with the Fischer contract. He was a burgeoning #1D playing behind legends. Lidstrom, Chelios, Kronwall, Schneider, and he might've been the second best overall defenseman on the team.
I’ve been reading about Kaski and it is a great no risk signing. He is RHD with good size. He’s also only 23. He went from like 16 points last season to 51 this year. Might be a flash in the pan, but if nothing else, it’s a lottery ticket.
Totally disagree Franzen and Fischer were both at least good and injuries got them. Cabrera, VMart and Fielder were at least stars, we just signed them to too long of deals. Anibal led baseball in era one year too. Abdelkader is a 3rd-4th line player who benefited from being thrown on a line with Datsyuk and is now being paid 2nd line money. Now he isnt even worth a roster spot how bad he has been playing. He was also given a 7 year deal which still has 4 years left on it. His contract has to be one of the worst
We signed Cabrera 2 years before we needed to. He would have got $10 mil less per year, and maybe 3-4 years less. It will go down as worst contract in Tigers history
Not saying it isnt bad, it clearly is. Just think abdelkader is worse. Miggy was one of best players in baseball when he signed it and is still at least serviceable. Also lack of salary cap makes a difference. Abby contact is not only bad but it's compounded by the fact he isn't even a serviceable player anymore and wasn't a star even before he signed it
I don't remember the specific numbers or what the contract would look like in today's dollars, but I remember Bobby Higginson's deal being really bad. But on topic Fischer contract would have been fine if not for the whole almost dying on the ice thing.
Again, I conflated the Fischer contract with the Ericsson contract. Fischer's deal was fine, Ericsson's was bad. The Franzen contract was bad. Even understanding the point of cap circumvention, a long extension for a power forward type about to turn 30 who was more a streaky scorer than a consistent scorer looked questionable when it happened. But I'll agree that its arguable that the Abdelkader was worse given each player's stature at the time they were signed and the sheer lack of need to lock him up for 7 years.
Are they playing against younger kids? Who gives a shit. We already know Mantha can play in the league
McIssac is out 5-6 months after shoulder surgery. Sucks that he misses camp but hopefully this is a permanent fix.
