They were so dumb to not give up their 1st last year. Just a complete lack of foresight and valuation.
That contact is far from terrible. He makes about half million per year too much. I think we can get a 2nd round pick if we pick up the correct portion of his salary for the remainder of his deal
Yeah I think Glenny is as valuable as Boyle. The only thing Boyle has on him is size, which is at a premium in the West. For a team in the East though, Luke is insanely valuable in April. Especially if we eat salary like you said.
If Gus would take a similar deal to what he is at now, I’d take an extension over only getting something like a second round pick. If he wants a big raise you have to deal him, but I’ve come around to Gus at a similar deal being more valuable than another 2. I say this because I think Gus will have a soft market. All the teams in the West want big bodies. Not sure how many playoff teams in the East would want Gus for the cost. It’ll be interesting to see unfold. At this point I want to see Jensen dealt. Anything else is gravy.
Abdelkader's contact is sooo fucking bad. Still on the books through 2023 at a cap hit of 4.25 plus a NTC
Helm and Abby’s NTC’s expire next year I believe. There aren’t outs for the team if we don’t make the playoffs. I might be wrong on the timeline but I know it’s the case. Of course the deals themselves are basically NMC’s.
Glendenning isn't a bad deal for what he is and what he could get back at the deadline IMO Really wish the Wings could ship the Toxic Avenger (Gator) with a pick to Ottawa after the NTC expires. Never happen though. He's going to turn out worse and more hated than Cleary was for those 2 or 3 years. And I never thought such a thing was possible.
He’s been fine for a teenager in the AHL. The first month of the season he was playing with no talented D and the entire team suffered offensively. Since November he has been good.
And today is important game for tanking as we are battling Chicago in the standings. Need an outright loss if possible.
I go back and forth. I watch a lot of Michigan hockey games and his skill is undeniable. He hasn’t been good defensively though and I do worry about that at the next level. Of course, he still probably ends up around 50 points a season, which is a nice trade off. One thing that does worry me about Hughes is that he still puts himself in bad positions to get drilled. I figure he will learn to protect himself pretty quickly, but if he doesn’t, he is going to be in the press box with injury quite often.
I feel the same with Gus, but only if it is a 2-3 year deal...and I disagree on Jensen, I think he's been quite good this year, the issue, to me, are the guys ahead of him. Those are the slots we want these younger guys in anyway. I really hope we can get a 2nd for Gus and something worthwhile for Jensen and Howard. I keep hearing about a trade and re-sign route for Howard, in which case I'd take draft picks starting in round 3.
McIssac is up to 45 points in 36 games. I wasn’t sure what his upside was but he looks like a top 4 guy right now.
Zadina has 7 points his last 7 games. He played with Frk and Megan last night and they apparently dominated. Should be a good boost for him moving forward.
Daniels just said Rasmussen could be sent back to Juniors before the TDL so he could become eligible for the AHL playoffs.
