Big fan of the deal. Also, this makes the team considerably worse the remainder of the year which is also great. Jensen was having a really nice year.
What is everyone thinking of this rebuild? Obviously this draft is going to be huge for it. Do we try to start winning again next year if things go well? Try to make a splash in free agency to pair with the young players?
Wholly depends on getting a top 2 pick this year. Not sure who it was, maybe DeTox, but someone posted a great write up on the timeframe and needs of a potential rebuild.
I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not a huge fan of this trade. We'll see who we get with the pick, and free agency, but our D corp is gone after next year, leaving only Cholo, Hronek and DK...having Jensen there would have been really helpful.
Trouba is my FA goal. Bring him home. And next year isn’t a gun for the playoffs year so we have time to develop or sign more guys plus hopefully another top 10 pick next year.
Jensen is 28. Maybe this is who he really is, but it’s a fairly big gamble to give him a long term deal at this point in his career.
You are talking in 2 years, we should have cap space to bring in someone. You also hope some of Sulak, McIsaac, Lindstrom, and Saarijarvi develop. Bowey has next year under contract and then is a RFA, so we could hold onto him if he develops and hes still young. We need 1-2 FA defenseman for sure in next 2 years and probably another high pick in the next 2 drafts.
I can’t ever be mad about goals from Mantha or Bert that also feature assists from Larkin and Hronek.
Great loss. Friday night home game to a below average team. Zadina getting called up Sunday according to Blashill
I say like 70/30 now based on Holland basically saying they aren’t close on a new deal. I still wouldn’t be shocked if he returned, but it seems less likely today.
We need to put Bernier in net more to really go after this lose for Hughes. He has lost 8 of his last 9 starts and 12 of his last 15.
They opted to keep their 10th pick last year then traded up for Tkachuk and now are likely to lose a top 2-3 pick because of it? Yuck.
According to HSJ, the Wings have balked at Gus asking price for a new deal (5x5.5) and Gus is willing to waive his NTC for the right situation.
https://www.freep.com/story/sports/...ngs-could-move-nhl-trade-deadline/2961224002/ Winger Gustav Nyquist (15 goals, 33 assists, 61 games) is on pace for a career year. He’s attractive to a team looking for scoring help, though his NHL playoff history is meager (four goals, four assists in 35 games). Nyquist has a no-trade clause, but has indicated he’d be willing to waive it, depending on the situation. Nyquist, 29, is in the last year of a contract with a $4.75 million salary cap hit. The Wings were interested in re-signing Nyquist, but balked at his asking price of five years at $5.5 million per. He’ll get that from someone if he hits the open market. If the Wings don’t see him as part of their future, the sensible move is to trade him. At last year’s trade deadline, Tatar had 16 goals and 12 assists in 62 games and yielded a 2018 first-round pick, 2019 second-round pick and 2021 third-round pick from Vegas. The Golden Knights were loaded up with picks left over from their expansion draft, though, and Tatar was under contract through 2020-21 at a $5.3 million cap hit. Nyyquist isn’t likely to fetch the same haul, but a first-round pick, a conditional second-round pick that becomes a first if the team reaches the conference finals, or a second-round pick and a good prospect, could be enticing.
We won’t pay Nyquist that money, but we had no issues giving Abdelkader 4 or 5 million a year. Fuck Holland.
