Zadina already has had two real nice passes setting up great chances. But his linemates cant score for shit.
So the Twitter account that posts a bunch of Wings gifs says Larkin has a coke problem. Frankly I’m stunned the guy isn’t verified.
Final PP was about the worst high pressure special teams I've ever seen. Overall, O is fine but D is an unmitigated disaster. Whatever, Arbys.
He’s been pretty bad this year. Only on pace for like 50 points and 20 goals. He had like 75 points last year.
His points will come around. All the other numbers are good to very good. I think I saw he leads the league in posts hit too for what it's worth.
Man, what a shithead. I think he's a good coach, but still overrated. How he didn't get one more cup out of that group from 05-10/11, esp. 07-09 I'll never quite understand
The NHL literally chose Pittsburgh in '09, and then injuries and Holland kinda fucked the Wings the next couple seasons, but I don't disagree with your overall theory.
I was listening to the Wings For Breakfast podcast this morning, which is very good if you haven't checked it out yet. It's more on the dry and analytical side so beware but I think it's hands down the best pod for Wings news out there easily. They were comprising their top Wings team of the decade and one of the hosts mentioned that Datsyuk is the best forward of the last 25 years full stop. That led me down a rabbit hole. He's probably right. Just a couple numbers I found that sorta blew my mind. He's underrated at this point for whatever reason. Goals Above Replacement 2007-08 1. Datsyuk - 40.6 2. Ovechkin - 29.4 Wins Above Replacement 2007-08 1. Datsyuk - 7.4 2. Ovechkin - 5.3 Goals Above Replacement 2008-09 1. Datsyuk - 33.6 2. Malkin - 24.5 Wins Above Replacement 2008-09 1. Datsyuk - 6.1 2. Malkin - 4.4 His GAR numbers from those two years are the 1st and 2nd(tied) best seasons since this guy developed this stat in 2007-08. He was 11.2 goals better than anyone else in the league in 07-08!! 1. Datsyuk 07-08 (40.6) 2. Datsyuk 08-09 (33.6) 2. McDavid 16-17 (33.6) Last thing on how dominant Detroit was in 07-08. The Wings had the top 6 Corsi numbers. They also have #8 and #9. Fucking wild. 1. Holmstrom 64.0% 2. Zetterberg 63.8% 3. Datsyuk 63.2% 4. Hudler 60.2% 5. Samuelsson 59.9% 6. Lidstrom 59.7% 7. Keith Aucoin 59.5% 8. Franzen 59.4% 9. Cleary 59.3%
This team is bad, and it isn’t even trying. I am not a big fight guy but McIlrath has one purpose this team, so maybe go do something.
What's more impressive, that in 6:20 of ice time Bowey has gotten to a minus 4 or that Zadina line is still even in a 6-0 game?
He was hurt during camp, but it’s his first pro season. Goalies don’t develop at the same rate of positional players. Ideally, he will improve as the year wears on in a backup role, and then move to a 50/50 split next year. After that he should be the guy in GR for a year, and then he heads to Detroit.
The Wings are only one of three teams who have played 28 games so far this year (most in the league). 2 more than the Senators and Kings, 3 more than Chicago, 4 more than the Devils. Still have 5 less points than anyone in the league.
