Bowey is in CA for the Griffs road trip, but Seider isn’t in the lineup. We sent down two D to GR, leaving six healthy D in the lineup. Perhaps Seider is going to get a cup of coffee?
Something is up. You would not go into a stretch of three games in four days short two roster spots. I understand sending Cholowski down but McIlrath doesn't add up. Seider has to be on his way to Germany's WJC camp soon. Maybe they give him a couple game this weekend before he leaves? AA trade that's taking longer than expected to close (wishful thinking)?? Or it's all nothing and Hicketts and Turgeon are on there way to Detroit today.
I don’t think they would fly any of the GR D back from CA at this point, so my thought is Seider is going to stick around until he heads off to the WJC. He may not even play but at least he can get some big club money.
Also of note, Mantha is skating today. That’s the first I’ve seen of him participating in practice at all
Yeah...maybe taking a flyer on a youngish large defensman? Hope maybe he can develop over the next year or two?
Maybe, but he seems to have consistent stats in the AHL, without ever earning a call up. That said, he can’t be any worse than McIlrath.
Good point. I do think that Carolina has had a good defense the last few years. Maybe he couldn't break through. I guess we'll find out. Not like we gave up much.
I would like to see the goal cam view, but I guess it would probably just be nothing and then a puck steaking past. Like my sex life! ZING!
He has 6 points in his last 5 games, yes, however he has played 8 this year. http://www.espn.com/nhl/player/gamelog/_/id/4352700/filip-zadina
In 8 games this season, Zadina has more points than Glendening (22 games), De La Rose (16), Abby (18), Ehn (24), Perlini (19), Neilsen (29) and Erne (25). We have/had a lot of unproductive forwards this year
Addition by subtraction. It’s one reason why this team isn’t as far away from playoff contention as it currently seems.
I was thinking about this last night. It seems like we could have a huge influx of young players in the next two seasons from GR, to replace this dead weight. Add this along with a top pick this year and maybe a free agent signing or 2, and it’s right there. I just wonder if I’m overly optimistic about that.
That's the one thing I find myself thinking when I watch them play. Beyond trying to enjoy watching them play hockey (impossible), I've found myself trying to project more while watching. Can they contend in X years? Can it reasonably be expected that these young players can form a core that contends? Is everyone too optimistic that they can start to contend on a few years? Am I too optimistic? Even just thinking about those things gives me greater perspective for what yzerman is doing/still has to do
Wings are 2-3 years away from being a playoff contender. By then Seider should be a 1D, and we should have another elite C. The elephant in the room is the goaltending. Not sure where that fix comes from.
Zadina has a goal tonight, but most important, he’s arguably been our most impactful forward. Happening a lot, lately.
Got free tickets to tonight's game from the wife's work. She stole my Larkin jersey to wear to the game. She made a bet with me if Zadina scored in the game, she would buy me a Zadina jersey. So, very rough game to watch, but Im getting a jersey out of it.
I was at last nights game as well. Holy fuck is this hard to watch. 18 giveaways. 18. 18!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never heard of such a thing from an NHL team. They are so bad in about every facet of the game. Bowey and Erne are hot garbage. It's like watching a developmental team scrimmage an NHL team.
He will probably clear. NHL teams are weary about claiming a player unless they totally love the guy. There is a 50 contract minimum and most teams usually operate at 48 or 49. Maxing out because of a waiver claim can fuck you up if a great trade comes your way.
Glad they are healthy scratching Abby and appear to be playing Zadina top line. Things like that they havent done in the past
