If we trade Vrana it’ll be with salary retained, I imagine. Likely for this season and next. I also think we would retain on Bertuzzi to maximize his return, so if those both happen we won’t have the ability to retain salary in any other deals this year (you can retain on three players a year and we still have a year left with Panik).
Vrana gave an interview saying he was hoping to get back to Detroit and wanted to play there and be there long term. Also kind of came around time his play started to pick up. Maybe there was an attitude change and they are going to give him another shot? Remember Stevie played for Bowman who was known challenging players to get the response he wanted. Yzerman could have played hardball with Vrana and has liked his response recently (me being hopeful)
Yeah, it's possible that the "he's done as a Wing" wasn't accurate or hyperbole or part of a longer thought process that included "unless things change."
Thinking about the Vrana stuff a bit more, the easy assumption is that Raymond will be out a bit longer than anticipated and is put on LTIR retroactive to last week. Even so, it sounds like his injury isn’t long term so he would be back in a week, meaning we are still going to clear a spot for Vrana anyway. If that’s the case, the easiest move is waiving a guy like Hagg. That clears a spot but if leaves us at 7 D on a road trip with Walman still not quite back to health yet. Makes it a bigger risk to move on from Hagg. I do wonder if Walman is healthy and Yzerman wants to waive a D like Hagg to carry on extra forward so he can sit Bertuzzi for trade reasons, like is happening with Chychrun. If it’s true there is genuine interest in Bert, it makes sense to sit him down until a trade is made to avoid further injury. Vrana moves into the top nine with Bert out and you see if you can pump up Vrana’s value in the process.
I think (hope?) bringing up Vrana now means he’s here through at least the TDL. No reason to bounce him back to GR unless he has another off ice issue. Pump that trade value at a minimum but hopefully give the guy a shot to show he’s changed for the better. Waive a D when Raymond is healthy.
Not sure what this leads to exactly, but getting the Wings, Tigers, and Pistons off this shit and on to a channel that YTTV will carry would be tremendous:
It’ll be interesting to see what happens, because MLB seems likely to have its owners take back its rights so the MLB can do its own direct to consumer solution. The NHL is likely going to do whatever makes the least amount of sense, so they likely stick with Diamond Sports. Illitch would be trapped in the middle. If Detroit sports stick with Bally’s, Bally’s needs to get its shit together with the streamers like YTTV. I sense that won’t happen though, despite them striking a deal with Fubo (Fubo is about to die anyway).
Up 4-2 entering the 3rd. Campbell has given up some questionable goals in our favor, and we're getting outshot 2-1, but I'd really enjoy holding onto this one. Spoiler And then fleece EDM and trade them Bertuzzi
That OT shift by Seider was great, calmly handled McDavid in one on one situations a couple times. Now to lose in a SO because we suck at these
Wow, that's a big win And would you have a look at the standings. Wings 4 pts out of playoff spot with 3 games in hand over 8th. 4 games in hand over the 2 of teams between us and 8th
Nice win. Ideally we keep this up, trade Bert, Maata and one or two other UFA and then call up some kids to play meaningful games for a while.
Assuming we move Maata (no excuses not to at this point) recalling Edvinsson is an absolute no-brainer.
I don’t hate the deal at all, but it feels weird with how many LHD knocking at the door of the big club. Chiarot can play on the right side, but now I am curious if we bring back Walman.
If we extend Walman, we will theoretically have five D locked up beyond next season (Hronek is still an RFA when this deal ends) with Edvinsson, Johansson, Wallinder and Buium all likely to be in the mix come 2024. This move provides flexibility to move assets like Wallinder, Buium or Johansson for an upgrade at forward, or it allows for us to move Walman for a nice haul at the TDL. I assume we keep Walman and then make some deals with the prospects over the next year, but the possibilities are intriguing. The dream would be retaining 50% on Chiarot the length of his deal and just biting that bullet now while hopefully getting anything of value back (a 5 maybe) but that is unlikely. I am thinking that as of today we end up with something like this next year: Walman - Seider Edvinsson - Hronek Maata - Chiarot
When you’ve watched 80% of the games since Datsyuk and Zetterberg retired, you come to dream of nonstop player movement.
I am not a fan of it either, but it beats Edvinsson/Chiarot. You could move Maata to his off hand I suppose, though.
Feels like every Bertuzzi goal now (or goal involvement) is just peak grime hockey. It's admirable and he's gonna win a cup for someone one day but I really hope Steve gets a good offer.
We currently have a 20.6% chance of making the playoffs according to Moneypuck. It was only like 8% yesterday. Really hope we try to add a player with term to help now while selling off some UFA.
I'm guessing most metrics didn't give us much a chance to beat Edmonton and Calgary on road, thus vastly increasing our odds
6 teams within 5 points for two spots. The results of other teams (islanders dropping points, caps losing 3 in a row) have a big impact on our percentage. It’s not just our result that factor into it. Also have to factor in some teams have played 3-4 more games. If that many teams stay close to each other and no one pulls away the percentages will bounce a lot as we getting closer to the end. I follow these projections for the premier league. Strength of future opponents and expected results plays a part as well.
Right, 4 points in 2 games where we were probably projected for zero will change the math when it's likely going to come down to a point or two.
