If we win out these last 15 games there is just an 11% chance that we dont finish in last place. Remarkable
Wings could finish 14-0 and have 63 points, which would still only pass 4 teams current point totals. 3-11-2 to finish the season for LA, the second worst team, would guarantee more points than us even if we went 14-0
Abdelkader since December 8, 2018 (we are talking 15 fucking months at this point) 88 games 1 goal 11 assists -25 rating (3 of those 11 assists were in Dec 2018) He hasn't recorded a point since October 23 this season (for perspective, Howard has won a game more recently than Abby has gotten a point)
Listening to Wings for Breakfast and I’m convinced we buyout Nielsen this Summer. It adds two more years of a cap hit but it’ll only be like 700k the last two years. Buyout Nielsen. Re-sign Gagner. Let’s go.
Dont really see what 1.8 mil in cap room next year and .8 mil in room in 2 years really does for us as I dont expect cap problems in next 2years. I'd rather eat the contract and not play him or waive him so I can buy out Abby potentially and end of next season and not have both their dead money against the cap when we actually have a chance to start competing
Just waive him and send him to GR and eat his contract over 2 years and accomplish same thing and doesnt add the salary for the 2 years after that.
I am under the assumption we aren't competing nor are we worried about salary cap in next two seasons. 3 seasons from now is when I think we can start competing. That is also when Zadina will be off his rookie deal and be getting a new contract. Based on that assumption Buyout out Nielsen this offseason and eat Abdelkader contract results in cap hits of 2020-2021 4.25 mil for Abby, 3.41 mil for Nielsen 2021-2022 4.25 mil for Abby, 4.41 mil for Nielsen 2022-2023 4.25 mil for Abby, .667 mil for Nielsen 2023-2024 .667 mil for Nielsen Eating both contracts for two years while we suck and then buying out Abdelkader when Neilsen expires results in cap hits of 2020-2021 4.25 mil for Abby, 5.25 mil for Nielsen 2021-2022 4.25 mil for Abby, 5.25 mil for Nielsen 2022-2023 2.25 mil for Abby 2023-2024 1 mil for Abby Buying out Nielsen now would result in moderate saving over next two season when we really don't need it and would result in cap hits combined of almost 5 mil for both players in 2022-23 and .667 mil in 23-24. Eating both over two years and then when Nielsen expires and buy Abby out, you are down to only 2.25 in 22-23 (almost a savings of 2.75 mil against the cap doing it this way) and then only paying 300k more in 2023-2024.
Other thing that is possible is that we ship one of the picks we have gathered over the rebuild to Seattle to pick one of the two of them in the expansion draft. Avoid even paying a buyout. Depends on what round pick it would be but that may be an option. Probably would be Nielsen as Abby deal is longer and he is less productive.
The issue is that neither player gives you anything now. While the team is clearly in a rebuild, you can’t subject kids to more seasons like this. Tying up two roster spots with Abby and Nielsen ultimately acts as a detriment to development. In my mind, I would see if you can get Gagner on a Fil deal to provide an upgrade on Nielsen. That’s when you buy Frans out, seeing as how that last two years you add are less than minsal. It’ll be worth it to clear up space to put a guy like Smith on the roster full time. With Abby, you just bury him in GR and call him up if there are injuries. Clear out his spot for Smith to get a full time gig, and maybe even Hirose.
Look ahead to this Summer, I do wonder if Montreal tries to offer sheet Mantha. I don’t see any other team being a threat to do it, but French players are such a part of their identity, nothing would shock me. And as much as I love Mantha, if they offer him something like 7.5 mil, I would take the first, second and third.
I absolutely dont think you play either of them. I think you waive Abby and send him to GR and healthy scratch Nielsen and play him when you have injuries. Dont want a young guy on roster getting scratched every night, Nielsen can be that guy
Very reminiscent of last year except Fabbri instead of AA. Also we have a nice cushion on the bottom so this wont effect our draft odds
After a goal and an assist in his debut (playing with McDavid) Athanasiou since then has 0 points in 6 games, is a -2 and even got under 10 minutes of playing time one of those games Mike Green also 0 points and a -2 in 2 games before getting hurt. Doesnt seem like the change of scenery has helped them this year
The AA trade keeps looking better by the day Athanasiou last 7 games 0 goals 0 assists -3 and averaging only around 11 minutes of ice time per game. Was about to make a joke that those numbers are on par with Abdelkader, but then I looked at Abby game log and he is 7 games 0 points -7 in his last 7 and is averaging only around 10 minutes per game. Amazing Abby is only getting roughly 10 minutes a game, some games as low as 7:50 of ice time and still can be a -7 in 7 games AND doing all of this while we are only dressing 11 forwards
For the love of God, how in the hell can they allow the goal horn to sound that awful? I want the Joe's horn, but not a shitty recording that sounds muted when played. It's especially awful after I just watched the Russian five doc
Saw a list of top 5 college Free Agents, 1 and 2 have already signed but #3 is MSU goalie John Lethemon. Local kid whose college bio says the Wings are his favorite team. Wonder if we give him a shot, figure why not given our goaltending situation
Think Lafreniere has established he is clear cut #1. But Stutzle v Byfield for #2 is heating up. Stutzle jumped Byfield on TSN. https://www.tsn.ca/craig-s-list-ale...ies-status-as-hockey-s-top-prospect-1.1461675
With nothing else to do, I’ve been watching whatever video I can of the top prospects in this draft. Obviously we know who #1 is, so I won’t even bother there, but my preference 2-4 is now: 2. Stutzle 3. Byfield 4. Rossi 5. Raymond I am leaning towards Centers, obviously. That said, I am putting Stutzle over Byfield because Stutzle’s skating just seems so elite to me. I also think he’s a natural center. But back to the skating. He is like Athanasiou but he can play an East/West game. His sense is elite and he fits in so well with Mantha or Zadina next to him. I wouldn’t hate Byfield at all but I am always leery of big guys that dominate juniors because they can use their bodies to just physically dominate kids. Rossi is also a lot of fun. He reminds me of Zetterberg. And I added Raymond because I love his hockey sense. He is going to be a great pro, I just prefer centers.
I haven't listened yet, but the latest episode of the winged wheel podcast discusses byfield vs. stutzle Also, at 3pm et NBC is showing have 6 of the 2008 finals. Be aware though, but at 430 they'll show game 7 of the 09 finals (fucking can't get away from that game lately)
Strange, it doesn't appear to be on. My guide (as well as NBC Sports website) says olympics will be on.
Apparently we signed this guy. He’s probably just going to be a guy but he has some talent it looks like.
Could be a good addition. I really hope they go to the old draft lottery system this year. That would give is just under a 50% shot at the 1st pick and guarantee us top 2. Helps the rebuild a bunch.
GR also signed Nagle for another year. So between Toledo and GR you have Pickard, Nagle, Larsson and Brattstrom.
