It’s been reported that Toronto offered a 5 for Glendening and we countered for a 2. I won’t be shocked if we settle on a 3 which would be quite nice.
It was clear he was no longer in their long-term plans outside of him turning back into a dynamite goalie. Curious to know what the conditions are, but damn at that trade. Hopefully it'll look better for the wings in a few years.
Bummer. Mrazek is a better goalie than Howard. I guess this is good if we are planning on tanking. Would have tried to dump Jimmy, and keep Mrazek. Anyways, eat shit Holland. Good job fucking up this organization.
He's always been capable of going absolutely nuts and completely stoning games like the beginning of 2016 when he was Vezina level good but he was too inconsistent overall. I will concede they fucked him up though and the defense in front of him was never great. I'm shocked that he's only 26, I feel like we've had him forever. I won't be surprised if he completely washes out and goes to Europe or figures it out and goes HAM for someone else.
I've been told by somebody who is welcome in the Wings locker room that Mrazek needs to greatly upgrade his conditioning if he wants to be a consistent #1. Apparently giving him a big contract didn't fix his willingness to work at it. Stunningly.
He was managed terribly. Wasn’t given enough time early on then overworked when Howard was out or struggling. He’s young and likely hasn’t peaked and we sold him low. Fuck Holland
The more I think about the Mrazek trade, the more it sits poorly with me. Everyone has touched on it, but he really was managed poorly - I feel like everyone knew about his attitude issues and we threw money at it. If I remember correctly that came around the time Holland was throwing out a lot of questionable contracts, which sort of went against "The Red Wing Way." Anyway, like The Banks said, we totally sold low. I have a bad feeling about him becoming a consistent and electric goalie elsewhere...while we have an aging Jimmy Howard with no clear future in net.
I hope Mrazek plays awesome for Philly and gets a new deal elsewhere next year. I won’t be shocked if he ends up in the KHL though.
Since we can eat money on two more deals (Green will definitely be one of the two) I hope we decide to use that provision in a deal with Nyquist.
Tatar has more term but Nyquist probably brings in more value. I think Gus is probably the better player but if he can get us a second and a B level prospect I jump all over that.
Literally trade everyone not named Zetterberg, Larkin and Mantha unless McDavid or Matthews is coming back.
I was reading an article and the Nashville players seemed to be raving about Tatar...not sure we'd pry away the like of Fabro from them with just Tats though, but there seems to be interest. I'd like to see us send Green and Gus to Tampa for a handful of picks (2 and 3rds) plus someone like Cal Foote, and then LG for a pick and a contract from Toronto. Seems the only way we get a high pick for him is if we take back a bad contract since they're at the 50 contract limit.
Tatar should get a first and a decent prospect because that deal isn’t awful for a consistent 20-25 goal guy. I would love Foote but I doubt that happens. As far as Luke goes, I would trade him for Martin and a 2nd, assuming we clear out some other salary. It’s the only way I eat that contract. Getting a second makes it worth it.
Martin’s contract is fine, 2 years at 2.5. He’s just getting squeezed out a bit. The Leafs have going 11-2 since he was first scratched for the flu doesn’t help him though.
I think Martin is overpaid but yes, it’s not awful. Considering we won’t be very good I don’t mind having Martin in the lineup for protection. He’s far better than Witowski.
I'd take that for Tats. I'd also move Goose + Green for Cal Foote and 2nd/3rd in a hear beat. I'd even take the Martin deal...not ideal with him being a winger, but if we move Tats and Goose it wouldn't be an issue...and to your point he's MUCH better than Witowski. If Goose, Tats and Glenny go up front, I would imagine that Turgeon, Bert and Svech come up next year. That would allow Bert and AA to play wings in the top 6 and give Svech a chance to grab a top 6 spot. If he can't I'd imagine Helm/Abby take that wing spot or an inexpensive veteran who is slots more as a top 9 guy so he and Svech can rotate depending on who's hot. None of this takes into account, Rasmusen, especially since I've heard they want to start him on the wing.
Sounds like Green is out again tonight. I am sure it’s just a precaution but it isn’t the best timing for the guy to be banged up.
Toronto landed Plekanec from MTL so chances are Glendening isn’t going anywhere. Despite his injury I think we move Green for a nice return but I am not expecting any other deals at this point.
Custance says it’ll be closer to 3 tomorrow when we make moves, or at least that’s the feeling right now. I get it since Green won’t get dealt until Karlsson and McDonagh get figured out.
Reports of a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks coming to Detroit. Impressive Sad to see him go, big fan of his
Green had all the control. With WSH and TB doing other things, I get why it happened but fuck what a waste.
Does moving Tatar clear enough cap space now that we should be able to comfortably re-sign Larkin, Mantha and AA this summer to long term deals this summer? Or is that when a potential Nyquist deal comes in later?
Really disappointed we couldn't move Green...although that haul for Tatar is impressive, 1st is for this year. Interested to hear the story behind the Green deal not getting done...the fact that he handcuffed the Wings like that, and fairly publicly, is frustrating.
The Tatar trade deserves an A. The lack of a Green deal gets an F. I hate Ken so I’ll round down to a D.
My early guess for what happens next season: - Green walks in FA despite our best attempts to re-sign him - We waive Ouellete - Booth walks - Larkin says - 6 year, 33 mil extension - Mantha signs a 2 year, 8 mil bridge deal - AA signs a 2 year, 6 mil bridge deal - One of Ras or Svechnikov make the team out of camp. I think it’ll be Rasmussen as a winger. Mantha - Z - Nyquist Bertuzzi - Larkin - AA Rasmussen - Nielsen - Abby Helm - Glendening - Frk/Witowski Daley - Krownall DeKeyer - Hronek Ericsson - Hicketts/Jensen Howard Coreau
Two more wins for Mrazek (coupled with a Flyers playoff birth) gets us the Flyers third this year. We are going to have like 8 picks in the top 100. I wouldn’t trade up (you aren’t getting anyone to deal Dahlin) unless we just flip a few picks to move up 1-2 spots for a D we like. It’s pretty apparent this will be the most important Wings draft in a long time. Hopefully we don’t fuck this up.
Patiently waiting for Vinegar Strokes to come and rage about how badly Holland is gonna fuck this up.
