They finished 1-2 in ncaa in pts per game this year. Like you said even if they never leave GR it's valuable to have a guy like Chris Terry in the minors to play with some of the young guys. It also helps us tank this year and gives them an extended look up here so we can see what we got with them
I’ve gotten to the point this season, where I can genuinely root for them to lose and get excited. I’ve never had that before.
CHL player or defenseman of the year. 6’4” with a killer shot. Incredible he never amounted to anything.
Funny thing about that draft, we obviously traded our 24th pick to OTT for the 35th and 48th picks (Jurco and Oulett). When we ended up trading Sproul to the Rangers we got Puempel the 24th pick in that draft. He's actually been playing pretty well in GR.
According to Trevor Thompson today the Wings really wish they had Abdelkader in the lineup today....he must have meant for tanking purposes
Should have lost like 5-2. This is probably the only hot goalie game we will have the rest of the year. Sadly, we will beat the Rangers Tuesday.
Filip Larsson shut out North Dakota last night. He followed that up with 40 saves tonight in a 4-2 victory. I’m telling you, this kid will play one more year at Denver, and then he will be in GR. I have him as our starter no later than 2022. Finding a goalie to bridge us to 2022 will be an adventure though.
Correct. I don’t think you can count on him as a 50+ game guy. While I am team tank, whoever is running the team moving forward needs to address the net. I am all for taking a flier on a guy like Malcolm Subban. A young guy who has talent but hasn’t put it together for whatever reason. Just not Howard.
I knew we would win this game. At this point finishing in the bottom two isn’t likely. Just stay behind the Devils.
Question about Zadina: In baseball, people freak out about the service time thing with guys like Vlad Jr. The Wings openly only played Zadina 9 games for contractual reasons. He's clearly one of their better options at forward now, but they sent him down and no one seems to care. Is it just that no one in hockey cares about that stuff? Or am I missing something about NHL rules here?
Saving a year on his Entry Level Contract (ELC) which are a huge value from a cap space management perspective. Plus it protects him from the looming Seattle expansion draft. The latter is probably the most pertinent for the Wings. The former is more important for playoff caliber teams, in the cap era it's extremely difficult to put together a championship roster without a few ELCs on the books.
I know why the Wings did it. My question is more that it doesn't seem like people care about that kind of contract manipulation like they do in other sports, and I'm wondering if I'm just missing that anger (because I'm admittedly not as up on national hockey stuff as other sports) or if people just don't care.
I think it's the opposite. Wings fans would and should be up in arms if they waste a year of his ELC and make him eligible for the expansion draft just so he can play another handful of games. It's not contract manipulation by any means, it was set up specifically to allow a team to try a prospect out at the top level without negative implications. Wings just did it earlier than they would have otherwise because of injuries.
To me the difference is that younger players are getting paid earlier than ever. Dylan Larkin is 22 and he’s making over 6 mil a season. More importantly, he’s signed for five years. In baseball he might be making 7 or 8 mil through arbitration, but it would still be a year to year deal.
Guys usages suck but the kids have shown improvement. It’ll probably be a two year deal so really only next year would be for sure.
Larkin isn’t right. We need to shut him down. Hirose doesn’t look bad. He shouldn’t be playing more than Ras though.
