As a now out of stater, if they have a streaming option and figure out a way to include the Pistons I would gladly pay a monthly subscription fee. I think many in-state cut the cord type people would as well
I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff, so you could be right. That kind of stuff seems like it takes a while to get off the ground, though. And I'm a little nervous about the Detroit sports landscape overall. The Pistons are basically dead and have been for 8-10 years. The Red Wings just opened a new building and aren't filling it now, and it's likely to be bad for at least 2-3 more years. The Tigers are starting a rebuild and I'm expecting attendance to tank there, as well. Now you bring in a sports network fans have to pay extra to watch? That concerns me. I could be overreacting in a massive way. Just seems like it's not an ideal time for something like that.
The current FSD contracts run though 2021, so they'd be assuming a return to contention for the Tigers and Wings into a new network. They'd also likely have a network partner to handle the logistics and pretty much replace FSD as the local sports network. But it's more likely this is a negotiating ploy with the teams shitty and an FSD renewal discussion in the early stages.
I would expect us to jump out pretty quick with a one-year deal for one of these guys for what will be considered an overpay.
Cubs are trying to move Addison Russell. Seems like the type of gamble the Tigers should be looking into over signing a vet to a 1-year deal
As someone who sides with the victim almost 100% of the time, I think the suspension in this case is suspect. He's guilty of being a shitty husband and emotionally abusive but to get 40 games for what she described in her blog seems excessive.
I think the MLB draft is such a crapshoot I'm not sure what Chadd leaving would matter. Is it Chadd that favors SEC pitchers and catchers or the org? He didn't trade Suarez for Afredo Pinata.
He sucks. We have one of worst farm systems in all of baseball. How many draft picks of ours have panned out, including the guys we traded?
I don't know how involved he still is with the draft. If he left, we would still have the same structure in place as far as amateur scouts are concerned. The value, IMO, would be if they replaced him with someone from another org who brought a different POV to the current group in the front office.
Galvis isn't horrible, but the other guys are horrible. Might as well just play Kozma again or let Alcantara hit an empty .200.
Can I get a "State of the Union"-esque post about the Tigers heading into next year...maybe something more than "We are still shitty" please...likes will be awarded
I was hoping we'd be shitty enough to be in a position to draft Adley Rutschman this year but I guess we fucked that up too
Current state of the franchise is they're wasting time until young players get there. They seem open to making trades, but only if they're getting more than 100% of the value. Those kinds of trades only happen a couple times a year nowadays, though. Not sure if that's a good or bad strategy, but it's definitely more boring. Big league club has Cabrera's awful deal + Zimmermann with two years remaining at $25M per season left. After 2020, the long term money is pretty much only with Cabrera, barring a new deal for Castellanos or an extension for someone like Fulmer. We should be out of payroll hell pretty soon, at least, at which point we'll see what little Ilitch wants to do in terms of FA strategy. The farm system has become a pretty deep group that is the best it's been in a long time, but doesn't figure to have a ton of All-Star type guys. There's value in that, but they need to start developing more high level guys, especially every day players. Every time Avila talks, I think he's an idiot. I'm not in love with the plan they have in place, but I'm not sure what kind of constraints he's dealing with in terms of ownership. I don't think the Ilitch family has much interest in complete tear down to the point where they're tanking, and I wonder how that affects the trade strategies and whatnot. I didn't love the Gardenhire move last year, but I think he's probably the right guy for the org at this point, considering what the other options likely were. This offseason, I expect we sign a cheap SS to play at least until the all-star break. We'll probably add at least one starting pitcher on a one-year deal, several bullpen guys on the rebound from rough years, and maybe an outfield/first base bat.
Matt Moore is a younger version of Liriano. The price isn't horrible, though. Someone has to fill those innings. Curious if there's another move now because I think this puts us at 40 on the roster, which means we wouldn't have a pick in the Rule V if we don't drop someone before then.
Bunch of fucking slappies. Moore is fucking shit. But this what we need to expect with Avila/Chadd in charge. He will help us lose a ton of games. Won’t help the Tigers get better. Going into year 3 of rebuild and no sign of getting better anytime soon.
It’s an awful signing, by the worst front office in all of baseball. All the guys that follow the Tigers are ripping the move. Only the Tigers would sign him to a major league contract in November. He still would have been available in February, and on a minor league deal. And save the rebound theory. That was supposed to be last season for him, and he was statistically the worst pitcher in all of baseball.
Nobody here was celebrating this move as a positive for next year's team. "A younger version of Liriano" is scant praise. The other reaction was that he's good for getting the first pick in the draft.
If Cabrera is healthy enough to play at least 120ish games, I agree. Also expect that chart to look a lot better in August/September with at least a few young guys getting called up.
I guess with Acuna/Inciarte in CF they can afford to play him in the outfield? Doesnt seem like an ideal fit for the Braves and that ballpark but they have a deep system obv so a great trade partner for us ...
I don't understand why would we just dump Gerber. We don't have a ton of OFs on the roster for 2019 and he has a chance to be a decent 4th OF who could have at least taken some of the ABs next year. I would have definitely kept him over Reyes, and probably ahead of JaCoby Jones, too.
No way would they release Reyes. Avila would look like a dumb fuck for keeping him all year, and then dumping his ass. I agree though, better future than Reyes.
I'm okay with this gamble, although we're now at 6 starters again with Norris the likely odd man out.
Norris isn’t good. I guess either him or that bum we just signed from Tampa bay (forgot his name) moves to the bullpen.
Basically the Tigers spent $9MM on two horrible SP. still don’t have a catcher, shortstop, or second baseman. Avila compared the Tigers rebuild to the Brewers. What he failed to mention was the Brewers GM was hired 2 months after him, and had them in the playoffs. Tigers are a solid 4 years from even sniffing the playoffs.
