MG2 pretend someone more component than Al is our GM, like Randy Smith. What’s a baseline expectation for a return on Skubal?
Theoretically makes sense. Starting pitching market isn’t that robust this year and next year is probably a lost year for the tigers anyway so look to compete in 24 Cobble a rotation between: Tommy John recovery - mize turnbull Wentz Probable failed prospect - manning Looked like solid 4/5 this year - brieske faedo Solid prospects - Jobe madden olson Flores smith sign a FA probably have back to back top 5 picks problem is you are trusting Avila to trade away our only real high level trade chip (excluding Greene and Tork) along with trying to get value out of about 4 relievers
Just spitballing but say from Baltimore you are probably looking at Dl hall Colton cowser Heston kerstad and a young flyer 2 top 100. A recent high draft pick and a lottery ticket I think would be a baseline package
Al's not trading Skubal. He couldn't even fathom the idea of trading Fulmer at the same time, or Boyd after. Skubal is clearly better than both, even if the last couple months have been up and down. I'm not against the idea on principle, but the asking price starts at a top 20 young player either already in the big leagues or on the cusp, along with multiple top 100ish prospects. Unless he's hurt, he's worth at least that much. And Al's not getting that.
Hopefully Skubal doesn’t end up like Fulmer and Boyd. If we get a new GM, I’d be in favor of them trading him in the off-season.
Wonder what Avila is up to this weekend. Probably just sitting by his phone, waiting for some team to call and take advantage of him.
I wonder if he's studied teams and assembled packages for Tarik that he would accept. And considered making those offers rather than waiting around.
Because Boros would have made him opt out anyway, because he Scott Boros. The new guys are just to hold his hand through the notice period.
Fat Joe having a great year smeegsgreen . Might be last time we see him pitch. wonder what bum Avila will trade him for
I still don't think Al's trading Skubal. Or that Ilitch would let him if he wanted (guessing he would, but it would be an enormous PR hit if it happened). But, having thought about it more and seeing the return on Castillo, here are my guesses at least on asking price. 1. There's no deal unless there's a good young player already in the big leagues Al could trot out there that week. 2. Almost all the prospects involved would be somewhere close to the big leagues. The two teams that make the most sense, given those parameters, are the Dodgers and Cardinals. The Dodgers could start a package with Gavin Lux. The Cardinals could start something with Dylan Carlson. I don't see a trade with either team happening unless those guys are in the deal (although you could argue we could get more if they weren't). I think Al's starting ask from STL would be something like Carlson and Matthew Liberatore. The ask from LAD would be something like Skubal + a reliver for Lux and one of their top guys (Bobby Miller, Miguel Vargas or Michael Busch). I bet Al's asking price is significantly higher than that, given his history, and I'm not sure either of those teams would even do the deals I brought up. But there's no way Skubal is moved for less than that. And he shouldn't be. The other team that I could see is Texas, who was allegedly in on Castillo until he went to Seattle. I don't really see Al doing that, though, because that would be an all prospect package and Al doesn't have the balls to do that. They do have Jung's brother in the high minors, though. And Jack Leiter (who has been Jobe-like in AA so far), so there would be some name recognition that might get them to do it.
How pathetic is it that we are selling off good assets once again, probably for less than market value. I have no idea how this clown still has a job.
Soto isn't worth one high-impact player. He's at best the 4th-best reliever we have on the market currently, and he only ranks that high because we might not be listening on Lange or Vest
#1 is game 162 in '87. This and Verlander's first no-hitter are 2 and 3. The last game at Tiger Stadium is up there, as is the Kenny Rogers game at Wrigley. I was sitting in the foul territory overhang in rightfield for the game in '87. It is an amazing childhood memory.
just trying to think of games in the last 10 years or so that come to mind. cabrera 8th inning homer off Danny Salazar. Raji Davis walk off grand slam against Oakland Game where JD Martinez homered after coming off injured list Cabrera had walk off against Indians ( in extra innings maybe) against that douchebag closer they had at the time.
The JD home run might be my favorite moment. I was at a game in 06 when Granderson hit a walk off HR against the Reds that was awesome, too. The Angels game had it all for me. Verlander and Guillen were my two favorite guys from those teams. Guillen hit the HR and did his thing. And Verlander had a no-hitter into the 8th that game. And it was right at the deadline after we had just gotten Fister, I think, so there was some buzz around the team that it was good again. Just a good time all around.
