doesn’t take 5+ years to rebuild in the MLB. That’s just some bullshit excuse for a shitty owner and a incompetent GM.
That Henning blurb makes me mad. Guess we should just accept being terrible forever because ... other teams got smart five years ago and we didn't? I hope Avila paid him to write that trash because I refuse to believe someone can be that obtuse. Maybe we can hold our GM accountable after Year 20 once he's had adequate practice hiring and firing developmental staff while losing 100 games a season. Give me a break.
Henning once tweeted that Joba Chamberlain was in line to get a $50 million extension after his two good months with the Tigers. I think his next contract was a million bucks, and he was out of baseball the following year
Hinch is a deadman walking too. As much as we hate Illitch, the entire coaching staff and front office will be gone at the end of this season.
Eh. Don’t agree. All jokes aside, being the worst at your job, out of 30 available, for 7 consecutive years, will catch up to him eventually.
who would have thought that Tork would have the lowest batting average in majors at this point in season? He’s unplayable right now
Freep also apparently doing a puff piece today too (hidden behind paywall but title is Avila deserves a pass this year or something) It's fucking amazing how inept our local sports media is. Just a bunch of yes men writing whatever the local owners/GMs asks them
Which team do you guys think is the closest to winning a playoff series (game for the Lions). I’d probably put at the following as of today ( pre draft / free agent for NBA/NHL) Pistons Red Wings Lions Tigers
I was debating that very switch. The Lions and Red Wings seem about equally in reach of getting there, but the Lions would have a better chance of a 1-game lucky punch than the Red Wings in a series against a top seed.
That was my exact thinking. I think the Red Wings are better set-up for a nice post-season run eventually, but if looking at who's closer to advancing a round...I'd take the Lions chances in one game.
Lions Red Wings Pistons Tigers But a competent GM and some spending money could have the Tigers there in 2024. There is a framework for a competitive team.
I would even say that we are nearing a point where Avila’s reign as GM is as bad as what Millen did with the Lions.
The lions have won one playoff game in most of our lifetimes. They still might be in last place for me. And I don’t see the tigers winning a playoff series for at least 5 years.
Pistons - Cade is legit but still a long way to go to surround him with talent and in NBA he could be somewhere else in 3 years. Big offseason Wings - Long way to go but proven GM, a lot of good young prospects some of which playing well in NHL already. Lions - they are the Lions...people high on them but I'm not. Still a LONG way to go and need to address QB still which is huge in modern NFL Tigers - just a disaster So my rankings for winning a playoff series first Pistons Wings Lions Tigers But if it's changed to competing for a title Wings Pistons Tigers Lions (they haven't done this in my lifetime so they'll always be 4th until proven otherwise)
I think we see some interesting moves in the upcoming weeks. when Meadows comes back, who gets sent down? I would imagine Grossman gets DFAd. Give Torkelson 10 more days and see If playing with Greene lights a Fire under his ass. He’s statistically the worst player in the majors at this point in the season. Season is a lost cause. Let him get some confidence in Toledo, and get him ready to go for 2023. Trade deadline is approaching, but probably don’t have anybody worth a shit to trade. Barnhart could have some value as backup catcher for contending team, but makes a lot of money, so won’t get much of a return.
Greene has been with the team 2 days and has 4 walks in 8 plate appearances. Baez has been with the team all year and has 10 walks in 218 plate appearances.
Trayce Nikolas Thompson (born March 15, 1991) is an American professional baseballoutfielder in the Detroit Tigers organization. He has played in MLB for the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, and the San Diego Padres. He is the son of former NBA player Mychal Thompson and the younger brother of current NBA player Klay Thompson
The Boston chick next to Mickey when Mickey was interviewing the odd looking Tigers fan was the quintessential Boston chick. Cute in an "two more beers and she'll be hot" sort of way, up for a good time at first, and increasingly furious that Mickey was intruding on her on her path to the beer. She was ready to pahk her cah on Mick's head by the end.
If Johnny Kane were interviewing me, I would have yelled out a Fuck Avila. The Bally sports fanboys would have no idea how to react.
