Trade Deadline Predictions Greene trades for weak hitting middle infielder Castellanos traded for an OF that doesn’t walk Boyd not traded.
Castellanos to the Cubs for Alex Lange Greene to the Dodgers for Dennis Santana and DJ Peters Boyd not traded
If Boyd does get dealt, I'll guess it will be to the Yankees for Clint Frazier, Clarke Schmidt and a third piece that won't amount to anything
Boyd not traded both Castellanos and Greene are traded: 1) One nets a surprisingly better player than expected (like getting Castro for Martin) 2) Other is multiple garbage players similar to the Upton or JD return
That seems like a chicken/egg situation to me. Toronto is telling people it took that deal because it was clearly the best offer they saw to that point and didn't want to walk away from it and get less (similar to Avila in 2017 with JD). At the end of the day, I don't really buy the "set the market" type stuff in most instances. If Bauer, Ray and Boyd don't get traded, it won't be because teams told them "we can't go higher because the Jays only got those two pitchers for Stroman". It's more likely they didn't get dealt because the teams looking for pitching were never going to pony up what it took because a bunch of them (especially NYY and HOU) are notoriously stingy when it comes to dealing any of their young talent. AA in Atlanta has a history of dealing prospects, but that org hasn't dealt a big prospect haul for someone in years, either.
Castellanos being in the line-up tonight makes no sense to me, other than our organization simply doesn't know what it's doing.
Reds would be another sub .500 team taking a top SP off the market. The more contenders at the table, the better offer we could theoretically get come crunch time.
I really don't think it matters at this point. Morosi is the only media person who seems to even suggest a Boyd deal is possible, and he's the least reliable of any of them. I think it's pretty clear at this stage that, if a team is going to overpay for a starting pitcher in this market, it's going to be for someone like Bumgarner, Bauer or Ray as opposed to Boyd because no one but the Tigers seems to care about the 3+ years of control remaining and are looking more for a front line guy.
The Braves traded Allard for Chris Martin, who has 2 months of control remaining. Could argue he's better than Greene (the peripherals say he is), but has less control. Guessing that means Atlanta is out of the reliever market. If we're looking for a move that could spark something on our end, it would be nice if Puig gets dealt tonight because it seems teams have him higher on the board than Castellanos.
That could be good for Detroit, although it sounded like there was more buzz around Corey Dickerson than Castellanos, as well. I don't really get that one, other than the price for Dickerson might be lower and teams just don't want to deal with Al at this point.
I don't think it will be Boyd, but I have to think at least one of NYY or HOU ends up sucking it up and paying for a good starting pitcher. Guessing it will be MadBum, but I could see Ray going to Houston, too.
Trammell would still fit the bill of a potential impact OF. LHB too. Think a guy like that and a top 100 pitching prospect would be a nice place to start ...
Wow the pirates red just had a brawl. Puig is going to get suspended for sure. Edit - and reds and it’s a great one. Lasted 5 minutes
I think that's missing the point. Allen isn't a considered a top 100 prospect right now, and Trammell is still an interesting prospect but he hit a bit of a wall this year (although some of it is due to the fact that his BABIP is way under career norms), and has seen his stock fall. The FanGraphs prospects guys have already downgraded both of them midseason. Trammell's future value was downgraded and he dropped like 20 spots in the rankings, and Allen fell out of the top 100.
I get all that. Maybe these weren't the guys in particular. But I would hope if an OF prospect in the realm of Trammell was available we'd be kicking the tires on it at least ...
I just did a double take when I noticed Don Kelly is the 1B coach for the Astros. Somehow I'd never noticed him there before.
I would be curious to know if Cincinnati would have made an offer like that for Boyd, or if they just thought Bauer was a special case of being able to acquire an elite guy and they went for it. I'm kind of guessing it's the latter, considering they weren't being talked about with any of the other starters on the market.
I think Cincy is also very confident in the abilities of their pitching coaches (and they've done some great things with that staff this year) to return Bauer to elite status, and then flip him for a large haul sometime in the next two seasons. I doubt they view Boyd as a guy with the same ultimate upside and value as Bauer.
Reports say Avila has put down 12 pancakes in less than an hour and he’s unable to stop consuming them. Reports say Yankees attempted to offer Torres for Boyd and Avila was just unable to put his fork down for a minute to accept the call and trade too.
YANKEES: Al, we want Boyd and Green, what will it take? AL: Are you willing to buy me another 10 stack of these delicious pancakes? YANKEES: For the players? AL: THEY'RE FUCKING DELICIOUS AND I'M STARVING! FOR ALL THE PLAYERS. YANKEES: You have a deal.
Hey Padres. You want to put together a big trade for an overpriced player in about 90 minutes? Seems super easy.
I'm starting to wonder if Avila won't pull the trigger on a Castellanos deal because he's afraid of him going off for someone for 2 months and doesn't want people bitching about how little he got for him just like the JD trade.
