Avila is bringing back Niko I’m sure
We not doing anything prior to lockout are we? And probably going to lose out because we cheap on anyone worth getting
Honestly, it seems like we have a bunch of lines in the water, so I expect something happens, but at this point I’m afraid we will all hate whatever we catch.
There is almost nothing leaking about Correa, so I feel like no one is near his ask yet. He probably won’t sign before the lockout.
I don't know, but a lot of the moves that have happened have come somewhat out of the blue the last 24 hours. Semien to Texas for 7 years wasn't some big rumor until it happened. Sherman tweeted that Ray could sign soon last night and mentioned 4-5 teams. Seattle wasn't one of them. Our E-Rod signing kind of came out of nowhere (although our interest was known).
What I'm saying is, unless it's the Mets, most of the stuff that's happened so far hasn't been talked about for days in advance so I wouldn't take that as much of a sign about what might happen.
If the plan is to go bigger for another established starter, the only guys who are really out there are Stroman, Rodon and Kershaw. Kershaw's not an option. Curious if we chase one of the other two yet.
Shame about Kershaw. I remember him being friends with someone I know but I can’t put my finger on who it was.
Between this and the Lincoln Riley thread I've lol'd too many times today and the people in offices around mine are starting to judge.
you should throw on your screen saver
I've been a giggling mess for about 48 hours.
Al probably got carried away with his advent calendar, and he thinks it’s really December 2nd.
It's probably one of those that has chocolates
Found out what Al has been doing, throwing down money
Yeah we are fucked. We are not signing anybody noteworthy. Thanks Chris
Fuck you Avila. Eat shit Chris. You cheap fuck.
Correa has to go to 350 id imagine. If we aren’t in on anybody at 300 then we move our focus to shit tier Baez and Story and Taylor
Have a feeling we are going to sign Story or Baez and a middle of rotation starter.
Story would be fine. No Baez
I’d rather go 3/60 on taylor at this point.
I'm fine with Story
Avila GM of the year
Sign Baez, Seattle. Do it.
Who’s rumored with Correa now?
Not sure anyone is publicly linked with him beyond us.
No one thinks he signs before the lockout, so his market probably hasn't started yet.
That said, if I'm the Tigers, I think you at least see if 10/$321m gets it done now that Seager is signed.
Being cheap and not wanting to pay Correa is going to lead to us competing with everyone else who missed out on SS after lockout (including possibly Yankees and Dodgers)
Dodgers are going to sign Correa I’ll call my shot now
This is ridiculous. Sign somebody you assholes.
Fuck you Lynn
It seems every beat writer in town always defends the shit the teams here do. It's almost like the Tigers are feeding him that, just like the constant puff pieces Pistons writers are always doing
Vin, I didn't know you was a Trump supporter...apparently anyone who disagrees with that tweet is
McCosky and Henning both covering the Tigers at the same outlet is next level water carrying. Henning makes McCosky look like legit reporter in that sense, too. Always has.
There's a very reasonable argument to be made that signing 8+ year deals for $25M+ AAV is bad business. Henning is not making that case in a way that anyone is going to hear, though. And Correa is exactly the type of player that, at the very least, should make you consider the notion given his age, position and profile.
You also lose a hell of a lot of steam on the "it's bad business to give Correa $300M" if you then turn around and give Baez or Story $150-200M. Signing clearly worse players at what is still high open market prices because they're more in your price range is generally the worst kind of FA business you can do across all sports.
I think Henning wants us with Kreidler at SS, think he's laying groundwork for that (with maybe another cheap stopgap). Which has me worried tigers may be considering that
Henning falls in love with every prospect the Tigers have ever had. It's his shtick.
I remember Henning said Cale Iorg would be the best shortstop in MLB history.
And Ryan Kreidler
6 year deal. Fuck
Fuck this franchise
I mean, definitely would have rather had Correa and a few other guys, but he's still an upgrade at SS. Him, ERod, Tork and Greene without really losing anyone who contributed a lot last year and I'm still excited about this team next year. But I'd be a lot more excited if that was Correa. They better sign another good SP with the savings...(before you all rip into this post, this is just me trying to stay positive, I don't actually like this signing)
Just fucking garbage.
signing Alex Avila to play SS would have been an upgrade.
I’m hanging on to fact that nobody else reported this, and maybe JP jock sniffer is wrong.
What does Emily say
she doesn’t like him, because he whistled at her back in 2018.
That doesn't seem terrible, aside from that it's a guy with a .306 OBP.
Now sign somebody else noteworthy, otherwise off season is a failure.
