Would have been first and third with no outs and 2-4 coming up. Love that it worked but Cora is terrible at that job.
This guy on Sportscenter which I literally never watch can’t pronounce Skubal’s first or last name correctly. And also can’t even really talk. What is this shit
That was a hilarious send. Left fielder double clutched because he couldn’t fathom he was getting sent
Also considering it's the game winning run, absolutely idiotic to not just throw it as soon as possible
There are 5 teams in baseball with less than 55 wins. 16 of our final 37 games are against those teams. Would be cool to finish above .500, may give pizza boy some confidence to actually invest money in this team going into next year
I can't believe how well the bullpen has held up over the last 5-6 weeks, all things considered. While the schedule has a lot of bad teams remaining, I'm still waiting for the arms to just fall apart due to a combination of being overworked and also not being very good.
It's like the 1984 World Series all over again. Tigers rule, Padres suck. From BA: With just over a month remaining in the 2024 schedule, there’s a very tight race for which organization will finish with the best record across the minor leagues. The Tigers currently have a narrow three-game lead over the Brewers, with the Guardians 4.5 games back and the Red Sox 6.5 games back. When it comes to run differential, however, the Tigers are much more clearly in first place, as their +385 differential is 74 runs ahead of anyone else. Triple-A Toledo is the only Tigers minor league club with a losing record. Meanwhile, Double-A Biloxi and the ACL Brewers are Milwaukee’s only MiLB teams below .500. The Tigers’ top record is a further sign of the steadily-improving quality of the organization’s MiLB talent. Detroit has not ranked in the top five of MiLB org standings since 2014. Last year’s ninth-place finish was their first time in the top 10 over that decade-long stretch. The Tigers finished in the bottom five in 2019 and 2017 and settled in the bottom third of the standings every year from 2015-2019 with the exception of 2018. On the other end of the spectrum, the Padres are running away with the title for worst organizational record. San Diego is 32 games worse than the 29th-ranked Braves. The Padres’ MiLB clubs also have the worst combined run differential at -402.
Lol Sweeney. His first career hit was some infield single that he wasn’t sure was hit or error. And now first home run he had no idea if it was a homer either.
Really wish we’d give him some more chances against lefties. Especially when the alternative is apparently pinch hitting Andy fuggin Ibanez in the biggest moment of the game.
Nothing against the Orioles because I kind of like their team, but this is hilarious given their fans thought that the package they gave up in this trade was going to be close to getting them Skubal....
He has been very bad most of this season but has struck out a lot of people lately. Surprising they would use a 40-man spot on him at this point.
Madden has struck out 37 in his last four starts (24 IP) against only 4 BB. He's also given up 16 R on 28 hits in those starts and has a season ERA of 6.98.
It’s crazy they have been as successful as they have the last few weeks literally using a rotation of 2 SP (Skubal and Montero) and the rest just being bullpen games.
The batter after Clark dropped the ball in the OF was #1 overall pick Travis Bazzana, who hit a 3-run HR in the top of the 9th to put them ahead 4-2. Clark batted the next inning and hit another soft pop up (had 2 soft grounders and 2 pop ups today). Liranzo had the tying runs in scoring position but struck out looking to end the game. Was my first time at West Michigan and it was a fun time. Just disappointing performance from the good players.
Only 7.5 out of wild card now boys. One of easiest schedules remaining too. win tomorrow, and then 5 of 6 on home stand, and we could be 3-4 out on Labor Day.
It has helped that we've been pretty consistently getting 4-6 innings from no names like Sammons and Hurter, as well as whatever they're getting from Maeda. Prior to Olson going down we were bullpening games and having to use 5-6 guys every time. The Sammons run has seemed kind of miraculous considering his minor league resume. I'm curious to see if they're going to try to get starter innings from Madden or if they're hoping to get 2-3 innings from him.
I don’t really understand how Madden was picked where he was. His stuff doesn’t seem impressive at all.
