Not sure but tork had a higher OPS than Greene did in Erie this year, but Greenes is better in Toledo. Greene has absolutely torn up Toledo
Everything in Tork's profile in Toledo looks good except his BABIP. His number in AAA probably should have been a decent amount better.
Small sample sizes too, both guys have shown this year they can hit though. I'd hope both on team to start next year
Guess Greene was in a collision last night and out today. Final line 124 games .301/.387/.534 24 HR 25 2b 8 3b 84 rbi 16 sb 1 cs
I kind of appreciate that Al isn't even trying to hide anymore that his organizational philosophy has become hiring people who have ties to other orgs who know what they're doing and hope that just turns us into the Dodgers or Astros somehow.
What purpose does this serve? After going to the pen, Fulmer was better than Soto last year. Plus you would think that starting him as closer has the potential to significantly increase his trade value.
I believe it was a joke after he told the media all year he didn't have a closer. I think he said after calling Soto the closer today that he might use him in any inning.
Looking over the FA list here... https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/free-agent-tracker - the catchers are atrocious and I don't know what they do there. - I'm in on Correa and Seager for sure. Probably Semien unless it goes too crazy. I'm out on Story and Baez. - If Michael Conforto is doing a 1-year prove it deal, I'd sign him for whatever that would look like and see if I can't rehab him. - pretty deep market for mid-rotation starting pitchers. I like Eduardo Rodriguez and maybe Stroman (if we signed Correa, especially) the best of that group, but not sure I'd want to commit more than 2 years to any of them.
Torkelson and Greene are playing in the Arizona Fall League. So is Kreidler. Tigers (Salt River): Spencer Torkelson, 1B/3B (No. 1, MLB No. 4); Riley Greene, OF (No. 2, MLB No. 7); Ryan Kreidler, SS (No. 10); Chaver Fernandez, RHP; Wilmer Flores, RHP; Zack Hess, RHP; Garrett Hill, RHP This trio moved up to Triple-A together on Aug. 16, and they’ll continue to travel as a group to Arizona. Torkelson and Greene will be two of the headliners of the entire Fall League because of their offensive potential, and it will be interesting to see how they carry that forward for yet another month-plus after the first full pro season for each. Kreidler, a 2019 fourth-rounder, has a chance to build on a breakout campaign of his own -- he hit 22 homers at Double-A and Triple-A.
Kind of curious to see some of the prospect writers' thoughts on Kreidler once they start playing down there after his strong finish in Toledo. I'm guessing he's still just a utility guy, but this is probably the best shot he has to make a name for himself as a prospect.
Henning said the other day that he’s the best short stop prospect since Cale Iorg, and is going to be a star.
MLBTR arb projections below. My guess is Boyd, Hutchison, Krol, Greiner, Goodrum and Garneau are all non-tendered. Jimenez and Castro probably probably a coin toss after a better second half. Candelario, Fulmer, Cisnero and Reyes all seem safe. Turnbull either gets tendered or a 2-year deal for when he'll be back from TJ in 2023. Michael Fulmer – $5.1MM Matthew Boyd – $7.3MM Drew Hutchison – $900K Ian Krol – $900K Joe Jimenez – $1.8MM Jeimer Candelario – $5.9MM Niko Goodrum – $2.9MM Jose Cisnero – $1.9MM Victor Reyes – $1.3MM Grayson Greiner – $800K Spencer Turnbull – $1.8MM Dustin Garneau – $1.6MM Harold Castro – $1.5MM
catcher we picked up late in the year due to injuries. He's in his mid-30s and hit some random HRs down the stretch.
Apparently we have a ton of job postings in our Analytics department. Al seems like a competent guy when he sticks to the To Do list Hinch provides him.
Marcus Thames got dumped by the Yankees today. I wonder if there could be mutual interest in him managing in Toledo considering he interviewed last year for the big job.
Baseball America on top performers so far in the AFL... Spencer Torkelson, 1B/3B, Tigers — Simply put, the dude has delivered. The 2020 No. 1 overall pick started his AFL season 7 for his first 14 with a doubles and four walks over the first week. He had the fourth- and fifth-hardest balls of the game on Saturday's game, with singles clocked at 108 and 109 mph off the bat. Torkelson is just one of many stars on an absolutely loaded Salt River team that also includes Michael Toglia, Joey Wiemer and ...
Law on Torkelson in the AFL... • As for Torkelson, he looks great, adjusting well to changing speeds and showing a solid two-strike approach. He’s still way below average at third base — that’s just wishful thinking at this point — but the bat is ready.
I think his AFL team has 2-3 good 1B and so they're probably shuffling them around to get them all ABs.
Correct. The CBA expires 12/1 though, so I am not sure many teams make moves until a new deal is signed. If we want to be aggressive, we shouldn’t care, but I am sure the owners will fall in line and wait until the deals done.
Makes no sense to me they would allow FA to start without a new CBA, but MLB is dumb. There's been talk of a transaction freeze, but not sure if that's before or after December 1 when the lockout will start.
A few GM’s have said they aren’t going to make moves not knowing what will happen with the luxury tax. We aren’t going to be near it no matter what we do so be aggressive. Who cares.
