Hitting has been worrisome for a while now. Team has been good so its hard to get panicked, but its a worrisome trend recently. Team really needs at least another bat
Not having Baez in the lineup vs Taillon was a massive miss. Baez is 12-21 career with 2 HRs vs Taillon. 1.048 slugging. 1.600 OPS. Only 4 Ks.
Good thing we have Sweeney’s non-existent bat in the lineup instead of Baez who has historically crushed this pitcher.
Cleveland, KC, and Twins all lost again. So all is not lost. Get the series win tomorrow and it will be productive weekend.
I'm not necessarily worried about our division, but I definitely think we need a few additions if we want to compete in the playoffs. Next year or so will be very telling on how invested of an owner pizza boy is. Will he actually spend to get this team over the hump and will he pay to keep key guys around?
what guys do we need to pay to keep around outside of Skubal. It’s not my money, but each team has a budget. Given the amount of pitching contracts that have flopped I think you need to let Skubal walk (or trade him over winter) who knows what our window looks like. Baltimore is prime example. They turned to shit this year. I would go all in on Skenes and try to win a World Series this year.
exactly. Trade Jobe, Clark, Briceno, McGonigle / Rainer for Skenes. and then go get a middle of the order bat Suarez on a rental.
“Go all in on a 2 year window and then commence the rebuild” is a terrible plan for an organization that just emerged from a decade without postseason baseball.
yeah that’s what I’m leaning towards. Having Skubal / Skenes pitch 4 times in a 7 game series would be unreal advantage. Although gotta score runs to win. odds are out of Jobe, Clark, Briceno, McGonigle, and Rainer, 3 or 4 of them end up busts.
We have like 4 pretty good middle infield prospects and already have a few guys at 2b already. You could add some pretty nice pieces for a run this year trading a couple guys who are already in an organizational depth logjam I don't think the Skenes thing is realistic, but go after Bichette and Chapman and others
We have some big-bat catching prospects with indifferent defense who are not likely to displace Dingler any time soon.
Seriously, fuck this ump. Greene is in an awful stretch and is trying to make good changes, actually has a better AB where he lays off and doesn’t chase and the ump fucks him over. That could have not only fucked over our inning but also send Greene down in a spiral.
Keith hits so many balls really hard that are just deep flyouts. I don’t know if he needs to adjust his launch angle or just get a little stronger but I feel like he is close to hitting a lot more HRs.
Wow, Carpenter with two solid defensive plays in this series. Not sure if this will hold up on replay or not.
I still don’t understand why Javy Baez’s only day off in this series was against the pitcher he has insane career numbers against.
This. after the play he made to start the 7th. He is the only reason the Cubs haven’t already scored in this inning.
