Weird how the Hao-Yu Lee hype train magically picked up steam the second Bregman chose to sign elsewhere. I'm sure it's not a coincidence.
What would devers cost us if this goes south Edit : forgot he bats left so not as great of a fit as I thought, but I'd still ask
I wouldn’t go 7, but what’s the big deal about opt out after year 1. While full details remain unknown, the contract structures proposed by Bregman's representatives to the Tigers ranged from $30-31 million per year over six to seven years. One option: seven years, $200 million. Another option: six years, $186 million with an opt-out clause after the 2025 season. Neither proposal from Bregman's representatives included deferred money. For the first proposal, the Tigers made it clear they wouldn't pay $200 million. For the second, the Tigers refused to include an opt-out clause after the first season due to the risk.
Opt out after 1 year make a contract much worse for the team. If he is washed, they’re fucked for 6 more years. If he is good, they get him for one year. For a declining player, they’re stupid.
seems like a win win. If he has good year, team likely made playoffs, and then you get out of final 6 years of contract for a declining player.
I think that’s just nature or business. Team for most part will always take on most risk, except for those pre-arb extensions.
Wtf is going on Edit - i guess they are handing the account around the locker room this morning and each player is tweeting whatever they want
"Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo" is a grammatically correct sentence. It's an example of how homonyms and homophones can be used to create a lexically ambiguous sentence - the internet
They've been posting videos now of the players sending those tweets, but not the Buffalo one. Wonder which tiger did that
The Tigers called early in the offseason but didn't go anywhere because Arenado has a no-trade and considered the Tigers "a non-starter" to accept a deal to.
Of all the analysts, I thought Dirks was the only one who consistently gets Benetti and generally liked their broadcasts, so I like to see he's a primary going-forward. I don't mind Petry, he's not great but I do like the balance of the primary analysts being a former pitcher and former hitter for some different perspectives. Todd Jones and Carlos Pena I would enjoy never hearing again. Wasn't a big Kane fan, but he was okay. Hopefully he's in line for another gig elsewhere. If every team fired their sideline reporters and I never read about it happening, I don't think I would notice they're gone.
