We sucked today. Jimenez made his debut and had a 1-2-3 inning. After the game, he was sent to Toledo to bring up a long reliever. So, to recap, a team with hopes of contending just sent down what is likely its best bullpen arm (regardless of experience) who could potentially help win games because its main middle reliever was so much worse than him today that they need another long reliever to pick up the slack in case it gets dominated by another team and needs the innings. Makes a lot of sense.
This one could be ugly tonight. Bauer's first pitch to Miggy buzzed his tower and Miggy immediately started chipping at the Tribe dugout.
If I scroll back far enough I could find you saying the same about Verlander. Spoiler Not that you're not right
I'm not watching the last three innings anymore. Offense and starters seem playoff level, bullpen is even worse than it's been the last few years. The Jiminez thing is baffling.
The Jimenez thing isn't baffling. According to several people who know the org well, Jimenez has some maturity issues, and he's dominated just about every league he's been at. After the way the Rondon thing has gone, they're really scared of bringing him up too soon before they believe he's ready to handle it. Maybe they're being overly cautious, but that pretty clearly is the case at this point. Even if Jimenez comes up and is amazing, he's still only one guy. They need a lot more than one guy right now, and even then the org is still going to be stubborn with anyone but KRod in the 9th, which is likely our undoing in the end even if the rest gets fixed. Hopefully they at least get something going with Greene and Wilson in the set up roles, because they have legit late inning arms if they can keep the ball in the yard.
They clearly didn't want to. They made it clear they didn't plan to pitch him unless it was a blowout, and then sent him back as soon as something popped up.
There is a rule that you can't bring up any player already on the 40 man within the first ten days of the season. Jiminez was the best player not on the 40 man.
They aren't complaining about anything. Read the comments from yesterday and today. They're going out of their way to say it's on them if they're doing something the other team is picking up.
Tigers need to do strict L/R platoon at catcher. Or at least give Avila 2/3 of the starts against righties.
I came here to post about how Miggy's decal on his away helmet is clearly off-center and annoys the shit out of me. But keep hitting balls that far and you can have the D upside down for all I care
Jimenez is back up. Iglesias put on concussion DL. Adam Ravenelle was also moved from extended spring training (probably because of an injury of some kind) to Erie. He's a potential late innings guy in the second half of the season if he can ever figure out a way to throw more strikes. He's got potential closer stuff by all accounts.
Would be pretty big for his prospect status if he can keep missing bats like this. He's young for Lakeland, and has gotten off to a really good start. He wore down last year, though, so he will be one to watch.
