They could have. He's probably going to be out until at least the second half of next year now, so that might not have gone particularly well. If they end up getting a decent haul for Boyd, I think that will end up being better than getting Walker for the two of them.
I doubt we get a top 100 prospect for Boyd, but we will see. He’s the only valuable piece left from Price trade, hope we get something for him.
He's currently an average or better starter in the AL with 3+ years of control remaining. Unless he tanks in the next month (possible), I would think we could do reasonably well there. I think a back half of the top 100 guy + some filler is reasonable to ask for with him.
Curious to what upgrades they are thinking about regarding Comerica. It’s a dump compared to all the other new stadiums in the league. Braves and even Rangers got rid of their stadium after 25 years. Detroit Stadium Authority should turn it into an amphitheater, kinda like DTE, and build a new stadium off the Detroit River. Could redevelop that area, and it would be cool to have it set up where you can hit bombs into the river like PNC and Giants stadium.
I think first upgrade would be to redesign scoreboard, and move it over 15 feet. They also need to do something about the sun. If you are in the poor seats in LF you cant see shit in June/July for he first 3-4 innings. Maybe some larger overhang behind home Plate?
Compared to rest of MLB. It’s probably bottom 10-12. They went very cheap when building it. Just compare it to stadiums built right around same time. Not even close
I haven't been to a Tigers game in probably 4-5 years at this point, but I've never heard a Tigers' fan complain about Comerica. Maybe I'm just talking to the wrong people, but outside of the scoreboard being weird and off center, I don't see what an extra $300M would have done 20 years ago to significantly enhance my experience there. The money that is wasted on stadiums in this era (much of it public funding) is absurd.
The big, walkable concourses are the design element I recall the most from that era of construction. That's my favorite park about Comerica. You dont just have to watch the game from your seat. I'm sure there is plenty of cosmetic stuff that could use a facelift. I'd love to get rid of the cheesy Tiger statues flanking the scoreboard. That's all that comes to mind. But I cant say I've read much of anything about it being cheap or a bottom tier ballpark across the league ...
McCann is awful. If Rogers keeps hitting he will be up in August. And Liriano probably could have used another tune up start in Toledo.
I assume this means Parker signed. I would expect that we aren’t signing him and that other HS kid without having Mize deal figured out.
I would be shocked if we haven't known exactly what it would take to sign Mize since we picked him. Same with Meadows. That's just how the baseball draft works.
I'm assuming he builds up his arm strength down in Lakeland over a couple more starts, and then heads to Erie for the last 6-8 weeks of the season. After that, Avila has already said the plan is for him to go to the AFL. We might have our best collection of talent in Arizona this fall in at least a decade. Perez is going if he's healthy, and I would assume we'll see at least 3-4 of our other top 10-12 prospects this year.
Clemons signed for $150k under slot today, as well. If my math is correct, that puts us somewhere around $300k under our pool allotment, and there's another $500-600k we're allowed to go over. That means Meadows' deal will probably come in somewhere between $2-2.5M.
We'll send a reliever or two. Every team usually sends at least one. Guys like Mark Ecker, Drew Carlton, Zac Houston and maybe Gregory Soto would probably the pool they would pick from. Would imagine at least one of Hill or Cameron goes, possibly both. Not sure if they would send Rogers, or if they'll give him time to rest because that's a long season for a catcher. Other potentials would be Alcantara, Jacob Robson, Will Maddox and maybe Isaac Paredes.
There's a 5% rule of your total pool that you can go over to sign everyone. Based on what I've read, it will probably be closer to what you're saying than the $2.5m number.
Hill will never be able to hit. It’s his 5h year in the minors, and he still can’t figure it out. Plus he’s always hurt.
The lack of hitting + injuries are connected in some way. He's an elite defender and runner. If he even comes close to being an average hitter, he's an above average CF. Doesn't seem likely at this point, but I don't think they can give up on him yet.
They’ll have to make a decision this off sesson. He’s rule 5 eligible. Doubt a team claims him, but you never know.
It's a 40 man roster spot. Unless we pull off a bunch of deals in the next 5 weeks with guys who need to be on it, I would think they'll protect him. They'll have at least 6-7 spots open just from FAs. Then you add in 4-5 pitchers who suck (including Barbato, who they'll release as soon as possible after the DL stuff he pulled that made them mad). Barring a massive infusion of talent in the next month, I would be surprised if they left him unprotected.
Yeah, why did we have to DL Barbato? Couldn’t we just send his ass back to Toledo, and tell him to eat shit?
Because he was on the big league roster when he reported the injury. I don't believe you can release an injured player.
Off topic, but many college seniors signed deals for $7.5k and $10k. That’s one way to save some money in top 10. Surprised we didn’t sign many this year,
We usually pick a couple in the first 10 rounds most years to save money. With the #1 pick that wasn't really necessary this year. That's part of the reason people liked our draft more this year.
So you sign for $7.5k ($4k) after taxes, and you play minor league ball making minimum wage. Sounds pretty shitty. I can see why many kids pass on that opportunity, pretty shitty
