Speaking of 19 year olds involved in trades, how is Willy Adames doing? I see that he’s with the Rays. Seems like he had ok MILB numbers. Is he still considered a good prospect?
From last year's sell off through this year's offseason & draft I really dont have many complaints about Avila
Way too early to tell if draft is good or bad. Zimmermann, Pelfrey, and Lowe are all you need to know about Avila. You could have signed Scherzer for less than the price of those 3 guys.
Zimmerman sucks but the other two dont matter now. This seasons signings have pretty much worked out. Goodrum has the potential to be a real find. Early on the draft but I like the profile they went after. Feels like were also seeing progress in the farm for the first time in a while ...
Adames is really good. Adames is similar to Paredes is that he never put up insane offensive numbers in the minors that make people go nuts, but he was young for every level he ever played. When the Tigers traded him, he was an 18-year-old SS in West Michigan with a 122 wRC+. That's really rare. The differences between Adames and Paredes are that Adames appears to be a legit SS while no one seems to think Paredes is, while I think Paredes might be a better hitting prospect because his contact rate is significantly better. Paredes posting a 122 wRC+ in Lakeland at 19 while only striking out 16% of the time is a tremendous sign.
Nothing. Other teams being desperate is pretty much the only way to "win" trades in this era. That, or when players on one end of the deal get injured, I guess.
Avila wasn't running the team when Scherzer left in FA, and that's on Ilitch as much as anyone. Had he told Dombrowski that he would be willing to pay that much money one offseason later, I am assuming the Tigers would have been more aggressive in trying to keep Scherzer.
if he continues on this trajectory the rest of the season, he has to the organization's top prospect heading into next season right?
Casey Mize is debuting as a top 20 prospect, so I don't think Paredes will pass him (unless he sticks at SS, maybe) ...
Pretty good stat line for someone that would have just finished his freshman season in college. He should crack top 100 ranking before next season.
Statistically speaking, Paredes is the best position player prospect in the system. Doing what he's doing at his age with the contact numbers he has puts him at the top for me. Emily Waldon just put up a top 20 on The Athletic that had Paredes 8th and Daz Cameron 4th, with pitchers making up the other six spots in the top 10. It depends on what you're looking for. Paredes doesn't have the physical tools Cameron does to project as a good defender at a premium position, so a lot of prospect people will usually side with the athleticism. I would put Paredes ahead of Cameron because I'm scared of how often Cameron strikes out while Paredes is hitting bombs while not striking out in leagues where even older guys don't do that. If I'm making an organizational top 10 at this moment, I would go: Mize Perez Paredes Manning Cameron Faedo Burrows Funkhouser Rogers Stewart
1.) Mize 2.) Perez 3.) Manning 4.) Paredes 5.) Burrows 6.) Faedo 7.) Rogers 8.) Cameron 9.) Funkhouser 10.) Robson I have Robson over Stewart as he is better defender/baserunner.
I kind of want to put Robson over Stewart, too, but a lot of prospect people who I wouldn't expect to be fans of Stewart are. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, even though I'm kind of rooting for Robson to be better.
He was drafted in 2016 and put up solid numbers in WM and Lakeland last year. It's hard to tell with college guys, though, because they're usually advanced enough to handle the lower levels and end up losing steam against more talented guys in AA and AAA. Robson is having a very good year so far, but it should also be noted his BABIP to this point is in the .410 range. The batting average is propped up by some luck to some degree.
Gerber has gotten hurt a bunch over the years, and he's just been passed over since coming back this year. Happens a lot to guys like him who aren't high level talents. Still think he can be a 4th OF or maybe better if he can stay healthy.
I didn't realize until I read Buster Olney this morning that Mike Fiers is arb eligible next season. I thought he was a FA. That could make him a bit more valuable in a trade. Leonys Martin is the same, if he ever gets healthy.
Just keep stock piling prospects Al. Move Liriano for a bag of balls with high upside for all we care.
I think we need to either trade Castellanos in the next 11 days or sign him to an extension before next season. I'm not sure what to think of a good price for that extension is, though. He's a weird player.
Clemens is probably too old/advanced for low A ball. I do like that he has more walks than strikeouts. He has more walks in his one month of pro ball, that Lugo has all season.
Please get rid of McCann. And Perez another rough night for Lakeland. Dominate for 3 innings, and gave up 6 runs in the 4th.
