Law is kind of a dick.
To his defense, McCoskey is a fucking idiot. How does he have a job still after he botched the Verlander trade?
That's your go-to moment to argue that McCoskey should be fired? That was one of his five brightest moments as a beat writer for any Detroit sport.
The Verlander trade thing is one of the best moments of his career (not joking). He fucked it up by saying it was off, but he had that trade an hour before anyone else. No writer would get fired for what he did that night.
Wasn’t Avila spoon feeding him info though? I think once he fucked it up, he went to Fenech who broke the story.
Fenech broke the story 20 minutes after the deadline that the trade actually happened. McCoskey broke the story 2 hours before the deadline when no one else had anything that the teams were even talking. He said the trade was off an hour before when rumors were Verlander wouldn't waive the no-trade, but even then no one had better info to refute that.
Do you agree that McCoskey still fucking sucks though?
Guys, guys, guys.
Can we at least all agree that Laws is a dick?
He's horrible. He's always been horrible.
Yes. If he were any good at scouting, he’d be working in MLB, not writing for ESPN. Fuck him
Both of them are fucks
And that feud has been going on for a couple years now (at least).
Klaw is great, don't care what anyone says
Not getting my hopes up on what his production will ultimately be, but it's fun to see stuff about Cabrera swinging again.
Suck McCosky’s dick Vinegar Strokes
I like that they're still apparently talking about adding another guy or two. Some current FAs I think make some sense are...
Depending on price you could probably make a case for Marwin Gonzalez, too.
MLBPipeline apparently ranks us as a top 10 system. We did it, guys.
Dont mind that move in a vacuum but why are we so intent on making Goodrum a bench player?
I could see Goodrum being better than Harrison at 2B this year, but I think Goodrum will now end up playing a lot at 1B and LF, depending on how they use the DH. I get why they would sign Harrison and move Goodrum around rather than sign a 1B only guy like Adrian Gonzalez or LoMo.
I hope that's the plan. I think he showed enough last year to see the field as a regular ...
See ya Lugo ya bum
MG2 opening day roster?
C - Greiner, Hicks
IF - Cabrera, Harrison, Goodrum, Mercer, Candelario, Rodriguez, Dixon
OF - Castellanos, Jones, Stewart, Mahtook
SP - Fulmer, Boyd, Zimmermann, Ross, Norris
RP - Greene, Jimenez, Moore, Hardy, VerHagen, Garrett, Stumpf
Competition spots probably end up being...
Two of - Dixon (IF), Reyes (OF), Peterson (OF), Rodriguez (IF), Cowart (IF/P), Kozma (IF), Beckham (IF)
Three of - VerHagen (RHP), Garrett (RHP), Stumpf (LHP), Farmer (RHP), Alcantara (RHP), Fernandez (LHP), Hall (LHP), Reininger (RHP), Houston (RHP), Turnbull (RHP)
If it were me, I'd probably choose
VerHagen, Garrett, Turnbull
Damn. Was looking forward to Lugo getting 400 at bats this year.
Fenech reporting that Harrison will only make $2M this year. He's maybe a league average player in a good year, but that's still a tough deal for him.
The sports calendar sucks and has me reading up a bunch on the draft in recent days. There are a bunch of intriguing bats this year, both college and HS. We should have our pick of some really interesting guys.
Why not Alcantara?
They're all pretty much the same. Will likely come down to who has options left, and I'm not sure what that situation is for everyone. I'm assuming they'll try to keep Garrett as a rule V guy until he proves they shouldn't.
He's had a couple down years with injuries, but I agree. He's making roughly 38% of Mercer. That's a good, thrifty signing by the Tigers.
Drives me nuts they haven't retired 1.
Agreed, although it drives me more nuts that the Pistons let Reggie Jackson wear #1 even though they retired it.
That's more stupid than anything. Why retire a number to let a non-all star wear it? But it's not as egregiously disrespectful to the franchise's history as the Tigers not retiring 1 (and the Wings not retiring 91).
Jake Rogers hit a dinger apparently ...
Can't wait for the players to bitch about it.
Manfred needs to show some sack and just force the rule for the entire season. The players are never going to agree to it because they suck when it comes to this stuff.
Iglesias signed a minor league deal. Reminder that Avila gave Mercer (one of worst SS by WAR) $5.5 mil
Fenech wrote some positive stuff about the prospects yesterday, but also added that the org is apparently annoyed by Paredes, likely because he's still not in good shape.
MLB Pipeline put up the Tigers' top 30 yesterday at the link below:
This is probably the best list they've done with the Tigers that I can recall. One name they appear to be higher on than others is LHP Tarik Skubal (#20). I don't think he's ranked anywhere else that I've seen He was a college draft last year coming off TJ and had a really strong debut in relief last year. He could either be a quick-moving reliever, or at least an interesting potential starting prospect down the road.
I'm also intrigued by what Kody Clemens does this year. He's around 15 on most lists I've seen, and I'm guessing he starts in Lakeland. A lot of people question if last year at the plate was sustainable. If he's shows power in Lakeland, he probably moves up the ranks a bit on the prospect scale.
Nice story on Willi Castro. Seems like there's some legit talent there that hasn't always translated to stats at the plate.
Garrett with a bad outing today. Ronny with HR #2 today.
Vinegar Strokes thoughts on this?
