Mize started an intrasquad game opposite of Boyd today with pretty much all regulars in it. Pretty much everyone in the scrimmage looked to be on main roster or a couple guys from AAA in positions that didn't have an MLB backup. He also pitched 2 and 1/3 innings, gave up no hits, struck out three including Miggy on 3 pitches. I think he may make the team. I think of our prospects he has the best shot.
I know he didn't have best ST, but he only walked 1 in 5 ip. And given his body of work in minors, im not too worried about 5 ip and then another 2 ip in an intrasquad game against mostly mlb hitting, when he probably was going to be in the minors another season anyway

The 2016 free agent class signing was absolute dog shit. Hard to judge him on the other years since he was just signing shitty players on 1 year deals.
I blame Mike Ilitch for Zimmermann. He went up and down in terms of payroll without a clear plan, which led to him giving Anibal a huge deal, letting Scherzer walk without a fight one year later (after extension talks broke down), and then signing Zimmermmann the following season (with 2 David Price trades in the middle of it).
His first real action roughly 14 months after TJ probably shouldn't cause concern. This season was always going to be a throwaway for him.
Interesting that Greene is playing LF. Given the shape if the park, it has taken them waaaaaaay too long to figure out that an athlete is required for that position.
