I’m like 2500 miles away and get to see like 7 Tigers games a year, don’t follow as close as I used to, why do you like seeing him fail? If I missed something obvious, I’ll take a lap
He’s a cunt. Blamed comercia park for causing him to not make all star game. Says it’s too big and he would have more homers. I believe the data shows that’s not true. Had no interest in trying new positions and was forced to. Wanted out and had a riff with our org so we traded him for junk bc we knew we didn’t want him and he didn’t want us. I don’t think he was good in clubhouse either. Anything to add Vinegar Strokes
I don't think that had much to do with anything. They hurt his ability to play 3B by moving him to the OF for a year in the minors, but based on all the evidence we saw of him there I don't think it would have made that much of a difference. He was a really bad 3B. Moving him to the OF likely made him more money than it lost him in the long run. That, and him getting in better shape in order to play the OF better prior to last season.
I don't have a huge issue with Castellanos in terms of what he did here. We sucked and messed around with him in trade rumors for 2 years before finally accepting a deal. That can't be easy for a player. My only issue with Castellanos is he says things like "analytics are made up by teams to keep costs down" and "I would have hit 20 more HRs if it wasn't for Comerica." Those things just make him sound like an idiot.
If they had left him in the OF from when they moved him in the minors I think he would have been better off at the plate, but maybe he wouldn't have.
At the time, if they hadn't moved him to the OF in the minors, he would have been stuck behind Miggy, Prince and VMart. They moved him to the OF to figure out a way to be able to bring him up. When they were able to dump Prince after year two, a spot at 3B opened back up. I don't really blame them from moving him to the OF at the time, and according to every report I've read from that period, he would have been just as bad (if not worse) in the OF than he was at 3B in 2014. His hitting issues early in his MLB career were more to do about him swinging at everything as a young player than about defensive positions, IMO. His approach was rough early on, and we didn't exactly have the coaching staff in place championing walks and working counts.
I'm of the opinion that moving around, and especially time spent on moving back to 3B, affected his development at the plate. Nicholas doesn't seem like he compartmentalizes well. He was always going to be a shitty fielder, so I'm not really arguing that they fucked him up defensively. That could be total crap, of course, but it's obviously impossible to prove or disprove without a time machine.
We lost to the reds 2-1 today with a impressive 4 hits to multiple pitchers not drafted at #7 pick overall but nick lodolo gets a slide. Thanks.
You were acting like the Tigers teed off on a decent pitcher last night. The kid pitched like 10 innings in A ball last year and is probably 2-3 years away from the majors.
I was saying he wasn't just some random A baller. I never said he was anywhere close to being ready for the big leagues, or that it meant our offense was good because we hit well against him. I made two posts saying who the A baller was. I apologize for the feelings I hurt along the way.
Thanks for the apology but it doesn’t exonerate the fact he let up 3 bombs to our pitiful offense with you defending he shouldn’t have been pitching. He was the 7th pick. So Mize would have let up a couple to the Reds with your logic?
I didn't say he should be pitching. What the fuck are you talking about? If Casey Mize gave up 3 HRs and someone called him "a AA pitcher," I would say "that's Casey Mize, the former #1 overall pick and one of the best pitching prospects in the league." I get that I can be an asshole on here regularly, even if I'm not trying to be. I have no clue what made you this mad about last night's two-post exchange where I argued nothing and simply said "that A baller is considered to be a pretty good prospect."
Can somebody get these two a tampon? Their weeping vaginas are getting the floor all wet in here. For clarity, Vin and smeegs
I think it comes down to somebody who regularly posts strong takes and is knowledgable about sports that can’t take a loss about their take. The tigers offense is bottom of the league and lodolo let up 8 hits 3 homers 5 runs in 1.1 innings in a scrimmage game where they rarely sub pitchers mid inning bc they need the work. Why not just admit to your take being wrong instead of arguing you are always right?
Because I didn't post a take. I said Lodolo was the 7th pick. Maybe I didn't need to. Maybe I should have just let your post sit and not thrown in context that wasn't terribly relevant in the grand scheme of things. I do that sometimes. But you're acting like I fought you to the death in some argument. I made these two posts. If you can find anything in there that is incorrect or wrong, feel free to continue the absurdity. Otherwise, just wait a day for me to actually be the asshole you're calling me and yell at me then. At least then it will have merit.
If I'm looking strictly at pictures of these people with no names/numbers, I could identify: Fulmer Boyd Miggy Niko JaCoby Maybin
Didn't Lugo have to make it? I thought he was out of options. Same with Burrows and Funkhouser? That OF is terrible.
I don't think those back-ups matter that much. If Candelario or Cron go down, I'd like to think we'd see Paredes over Lugo every day. If Niko or Schoop get hurt, I hope we at least see some of Willi Castro. They're not going to burn service time for back-ups. Not sure how the options thing works this year, but I don't think that's the reason Burrows or Funkhouser are up.
On the options thing, the reason I don't think Burrows is out of options is he was drafted in 2015. Derek Hill was drafted in 2014 and the options thing didn't seem to be a factor with him.
Mercer wouldn’t sniff an MLB roster on any other team. Ron loves his ability to play all positions so I guess that’s what was the final determination on him making the team. On Lugo, if he cleared waivers (which I would be shocked if he didn’t) would be in the 60 man still. He played a lot last year so hopefully some sticks but I think we’ve seen enough.
I read that Lugo made the team because there isn’t any depth at 3B, so they’d didn’t want to risk losing him at this point.
I’m going to watch tonight. But I’d be way more excited if they could play a prospect or two each game.
