Pulling Cabrera instead of letting him maybe get another hit or two against these bums seems like a missed opportunity in the long game of getting him 3k hits.
“We are in a totally different situation right now,” Avila said. “We have no pressure at all to make any trade. We don’t have any aging players we want to trade to rebuild. We’re on the upswing. We have no need to make a trade to move salary.
We're not doing anything at the deadline. We probably never were, but none of the guys who might have value are healthy right now. Schoop is a FA at the end of the year, but he has very little value and I don't have a problem with keeping him around and trying to win with him the rest of the year instead of getting nothing for him at the deadline.
Giving the young guys a chance to play some winning ball seems much more valuable at this point then whatever garbage prospects they could potentially get
Meh. He’s going to be getting $8 mil in arbitration. Could definitely find someone better and cheaper in FA.
Is Candelario worth anything on the trade market? I can't imagine he's much of an upgrade at 3B for the contenders, but he has an OPS+ of 120 over his last 140 games (all of '20 and this year), plays an okay 3B and has 2 more years of club control. Would rather get something of value for him than trade Schoop for junk.
At this point whatever bullshit we could get for Schoop isn’t worth cashing out the good will this team has built up this season. Just don’t do anything and try to build momentum for next season.
We said the same thing last year when he was worse and we still paid him. We're not going to dump him for nothing. Avila has never done anything like that.
We are currently closer to 2nd place in the division than 4th place, and might be at or around .500 if the pen didn't implode before the break. I didn't see this coming.
Only downside to all of this is Avila will get an extension, and be the guy signing the bigger free agents when it’s time to spend again.
How many more starts does he have against the Rangers? I like his efficiency tonight. Ks will come. Nice start.
Take out that one start where he got bombed for 9 runs and he has an era just over 3 and hasn't given up more than 2 runs in any other start.
What a little league bullshit inning 2 outs and one strike away from winning no one on - Bloop hit that should have been caught that defenders looked at each other on and let drop - hit batter on a 2 strike count - balk Now tying run on 2nd without Texas doing anything Edit - thank goodness they got out of it
Al and Illitch are gonna make Baddoo go on a pitches seen count to make sure they don’t have to spend money this winter. I mean if this team finishes near .500, how can they not pursue a SS?
What’s our record if Gardenhire is still around? The teams success has more to do with Hinch and rest of his coaching staff than anything. Looking at the WAR of our roster, we are below league average at 4-5 position players, don’t have a 5th starter, and have 3 rookies and Willy Peralta in our starting rotation. It’s amazing we are only 5 games under .500
Paredes also to the IL. Castro was called back up. Really sucks about Rogers. First time since like 2018 he had some momentum going for his career and seemed to be looking like at least a decent option at C.
Law has Greene and Torkelson at 9 and 10 in his new top 50. He mentioned if he did a top 100 that Dingler would make the list.
