Our pitching coach/organizational philosophy might actually be good.
So now that we are buyers, what will Mize get us in a trade?
Seriously, though. Maybe give Shane Greene a week off or something. Currently on pace for 113 appearances.
He will start pitching less, once we start losing again. The only times he’s pitched are in save situations.
And 113 saves. In an 113-49 season.
Not sure he's a 4th OF unless he hits, and if he hits he's probably a starting CF. There's not a ton of in between there.
The problem with the Jones comp is he has at least a little pop. He was borderline playable last year as a .207 hitter because he's capable of doing a little damage when he gets hits. Hill, to this point, has zero pop. If he's hitting .200, he's basically a pitcher in the NL. He can't be an MLBer unless he's hitting a minimum of .270ish.
Your boy is on the move Vinegar Strokes
Zimmerman back to normal form, 3 bombs in 4 innings
Just getting Shane Green the rest he needs. JZ is a good leader.
Maktook is looking to beat Chris davis’s Record shortly
Matt Manning today in Erie:
7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 10 K, 0 BB
I'm getting too excited right now about Mize and Manning. Please stay healthy.
84 pitches, 63 strikes from a guy whose command has been considered his biggest issue.
Klaw had a "top minor league rosters" article today and I kinda thought Erie would be there based on the rotation plus Paredes. Didnt make the cut though ...
Keith Law had the Tigers ranked 18th among 30 MLB orgs in terms of talent, so I'm not surprised there. Think Mize would need to be there for them to even be considered on that level.
That Manning line is so sweet
Ah right, thought we already had a Mize/Perez/Manning/Faedo rotation ...
Perez was going to Lakeland, I think, before the injury. Also, Law didn't like Faedo when pretty much everyone else did in college, and he viewed him as basically a non-prospect coming into this season. I think other prospect people are higher on most of our guys, in general, than Law. The only guy he seems to be on more than anyone else is Mize.
I can't do it. I drove the Derek Hill bus for 4-5 years. I gave up that life last year.
Must’ve been bad to give up a union job
Not gonna get excited. But man, that would really change the trajectory of our position players if he could recapture a bit of that original profile ...
Joe Jimenez needs to stop sucking
That’s what he does
Edit: he has a career 6 ERA
He was pretty good for most of last year until he got tired in July/August (he allowed 12 runs in August and 18 the other five months combined). He's been rough so far this year.
Fortunately, Shane Greene is prime Mo Rivera now.
11k was the listed attendance at the ballpark today. Early season attendance is always rough, but that's not ideal.
It was not bad today but it was still in the high 30’s. I wouldn’t want to be there.
Is Manning a better prospect than Mize? He’s a year younger, and dominating at a higher level
If his control/command takes a significant step forward this year, he's got a higher ceiling. There are some who think Mize's stuff won't last long and that he'll be better in 2021 than he will be in 2024. Not sure what that means, but I've read it in a few places from people who don't love his body and delivery.
We are #1 in the division again
While scoring the least amount of runs in all of baseball
Those runs will come so we’re bound for postseason
mahtook dfq’d for jones
I hope Mahtook refuses the assignment and chooses to become a FA (which I believe he can if he doesn't have any more options). We have young OFers who need ABs in Toledo and I don't want him taking them.
Why didn’t we just release him?
I guess we could possibly do that, too. I doubt we will, just because he provides depth in case of an injury.
Yes, need to start making space for Derek Hill
I'm guessing JaCoby Jones has anywhere from 2-4 weeks to hit enough to claim the CF job. Daz is off to a good start in Toledo (.348/.448/.565 with 1 HR and 2 doubles). I think they're a week or less away from the deadline to save that extra year. If he keeps hitting anywhere near this level, I don't see how he's not starting in CF by Memorial Day at the latest.
Another strong start for Faedo
Just twiddling my thumbs watching the current Tigers, knowing when these pitchers come up at some point we are never giving up another run
Vinegar Strokes was asking about Feado's velo last start
Should also be noted when talking about velo with Manning and Faedo that velo means more to Faedo than Manning. The fangraphs guys talk about this all the time with Faedo, but he has a weird delivery and short stride to the plate, so his fastball plays down no matter what the velo says. Everyone talks about Manning getting "extension", and being 6'7" means he's releasing it much later than Faedo and it gets on guys quicker because of it. Faedo's 94 is probably more like 91 or 92 for a normal pitcher, while Manning's 94 is probably more like 96 or 97.
Also seems like Manning is going more the Verlander route of not maxing out on all his fastballs and saving some for when he wants to blow it out. Probably one of the reasons his control has improved so much over the last year.
I’d keep Cameron in minors until late August. What’s the rush?
It’s not too early to start the playoff push
6.1 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 5 K, 0 BB
Meadows went 3-4 with a BB in WM tonight with a 2B and was his second game without a K
From a service time standpoint under the current rules, there's no difference between calling him up in late May or calling him up in September.
