Verlander looks like he's lost again. He starts walking guys like this when he knows his stuff isn't good.
He's throwing as hard as he was last year. I don't think the stuff is the issue. If anything, he gets himself into weird funks whenever he gets hit because he's a weird perfectionist who tinkers with everything all the time.
Need one of the young hitters plus VMart to figure it out and maybe have Miggy stay healthy for a full nine innings at a time.
I don't think it's a velocity thing. Verlander has tended to struggle when his curve isn't working (usually because he can't locate it), and it hasn't been working thus far. Then he loses confidence in his ability to miss bats, and starts walking guys because he's scared to challenge them. It's not something that can't be fixed or anything, he just looks a bit lost again.
Cabrera to the 10-day DL. Our bench is so bad we're platooning John Hicks and Avila at 1B. Mother of God. I want to be positive about this team, but it's probably less equipped than any other contender to suffer even the smallest of setbacks.
Jacoby needed 9 stitches but he didn't have any serious injuries from that HBP. He is DL bound however. Something called a Jim Aducci is taking his spot on the roster.
Did Rod just say they should pitch around Vmart to face Upton? Vmart has no extra base hits you dipshit
It's funny how the Felix/Verlander stuff has worked out. JV hasn't pitched well this year, but he at least looks like the same guy for the most part. They came up at the same time. They keep signing extensions at the same time for the same money. People keep projecting Felix to be better than Verlander. And outside of 1 bad Verlander season it's never really happened.
It's easy to look at #s and be positive after tonight, but Upton is at .294/.410/.608 so far. He'll go through a couple months where he's awful, but at least we're getting the good version while the other big bats have struggled or are hurt.
Wasn't watching with sound for the end of the game but do you guys agree with yanking Jimenez there? Youre up 19-7. Let the kid work himself out of a jam.
Have an odd feeling we'll somehow keep this series even. Like the match up tonight, Indians are having some trouble with lefties and we've traditionally smashed Bauer. JD and Miggy could be back during our WC trip, I'd just like to be hovering. 500 at that time ...
Collins is pretty shitty defender in CF, but he's swinging a hot stick this year. Not bad when he is platooned
Third LHP they got from the Jays for Price back in 15. Finally moved him to the pen and he was lights out for a month in Lakeland (13.2 IP, 22 K, 3 BB). Hopefully it continues. His control as a starter was atrocious, but if he can find the zone in shorter stints he has legit late inning upside.
Christin Stewart has gotten off to a great start in AA, as well. .271/.374/.553 with 6 HR. K rate is reasonable, too.
I think next year is more realistic. He's a borderline defender in LF, and might end up being a DH long term. With JD, Upton and VMart on this team, the only way there's enough room for him to play is if we trade at least one of them or if there are injuries. At least one of JD and/or Upton (possibly both) are gone this winter, so that's when he'll get a shot if he keeps hitting like this.
