I did buy an airbnb property with a buddy and have plans to acquire a lot more. If I could turn that into a career, I would, which is sort of the long term dream big goal tbh. Doesn't feel like work at all.

my friend does this and he loves it. his fiance already does property management and he and her own about 4 properties that is solely on airbnb in charleston. he said his plan is to get at to about 10 before he quits his job and manages those full time with her

he said they're making about $2k/month per home but i imagine there's a heavy dose of bullshit in those numbers

Yes and no. So I love the fact that as a nurse I’m always in demand. I get job offers all the time from hospitals/companies I’ve never worked for will call me up and offer me a job. And some nights at work I literally just watch tv on my phone for 2/3 of the night because my patients aren’t that bad. That’s all great. The no though is that one of my jobs couldn’t care less about patient care, competent nurses etc. all they care about is spending as little money as possible and demanding the best results. It’s kind of like having a kid who fixes up old go carts sell you a vehicle and then get all pissed off that it’s not a Mercedes. The other place I work is a lot better. But it really all comes down to how your patients treat you. If you get along with them and have little issues throughout the night it’s great. If you have a piece of shit human being who does nothing but complain and treat you poorly and like a servant than you’re gonna have a bad time.

Depends on the day. It’s intellectually challenging and pays incredibly well. The time demand sucks, and until about a week ago, I had worked all but like 2 days (including weekends) in the last ~6 months. No chance I could work in my current role until 55 or 60. In an ideal world, I retire in 5-10 years.

Fuck work..I hate busting my butt so other people can make real money off my unhappy ass.

Stepped away for health reasons & not looking forward to going back. Might find a contract gig and work part time. I've invested wisely & my wife makes bank so we're not desperate for funds.

If do that will need to find somewhere to volunteer so have some structure/ purpose. Guys in my family drop dead by 70 so I see myself retiring by 55 max tbqh. If I live longer than that then bully for me lol

Do you do all of the maintenance and cleaning/turnover between stays yourself or do you use a service/employ someone?

Would love to purchase a vacation property for this reason, but not sure how the logistics work if you’re not nearby.

Paper pushing you say? I'll show you paper pushing.

What if I told you that every single COVID vaccine patient we did had five different forms that all had to be manually entered in our EMR, one of them had to be manually entered into the state immunization system, all five forms had to be scanned into the EMR. ANd what if I told you on top of that, no one had done anything with the forms when I started, and we have done ~4.5K vaccinations. It took me nearly three months to get just ONE of the forms all entered, and that was with several other people helping me.

Paper pushing exists bc of the lack of autonomy given to secondary leaders (director and below) in most large corps. Everyone is scared to make a call and everyone wants their ass covered. If you want to enjoy your work, don't work for a large corporation, it's a 180 to general logic and communication flow.

Yea this is my second year managing a sales team and I love it. I love helping the reps solve challenges or helping them think of new ways to get a deal done.

Mostly I love solving the problems and the travel and other perks are pretty nice.

Spent yesterday afternoon with one rep and two clients at a Texas Rangers game in the company seats. Gotta love that stuff.

Only reason I haven’t left my job is because I like my coworkers and bosses and have essentially been sitting on the bench waiting for another project for the last 6 months. I probably do 2-3 hours of work a day and spend the rest of my time doing grad school work or listening to audio books. I have to go into the office like everyone else, but I’m always an hour late and leave at 5 every day without fail. I’m constantly being contacted by recruiters for 20% more pay to do the same thing I’m doing now, but I turn them down because then I’d have to actually work. I’ll probably jump ship when they finally find a project for me.

Honestly I don’t know how I haven’t gotten fired or laid off yet. Probably helps that all of my spreadsheets have pivot tables and I’m the only person in my office who knows how to use them.

I loved my job in the industrial electrical field many moons ago. Unfortunately my boss didn't know how to run a business worth a shit and ran it into the ground. Also my knees and feet couldn't take the ladder climbing. That was almost 15 years ago and if I even climb a ladder now, I'm fucked for a couple of weeks.

I tried explaining how to work a pivot table to one of my bosses so he could update a sheet himself and he told me he didn’t want to know. Can’t say I didn’t try and now I don’t offer to explain excel things anymore. They think my spreadsheets are so complicated that they have no perception of how little time it actually takes to do things if you understand how to use the tools. Oh well, I’ll go back to my audiobook and get you those numbers when I feel like it.

I love my actual job. Trying to run the business aspect of it is always putting out fires. That’s likely because they don’t teach business in grad school for it. Pay is good, flexible, and can have as little or as much interactions with coworkers as I want. Part of it is rewarding (getting people who need mental health treatment out of jail) other part is gross (mitigation work for people who don’t deserve it, furthering the fucked up criminal justice system).

I am a forensic psychologist so during normal times I see 3-4 defendants a week (3-12 hours). One of those is generally mentally ill, one is usually personality disordered, and the other 1-2 ranges. The majority of my time is reviewing records and writing reports (25+ hours) is spent writing reports. The rest is talking with other people in the field, communicating with attorneys, etc.

Yeah, I really like my job, I can honestly say it doesn't feel like work. I do legitimately hate having to show up to the office, but I've kind of forgotten what that's like.

I'm a full-stack developer in the public sector, I write code that pulls data out of different weird silos on a nightly basis, joins it all together and gives it location geometry, then styles it cartographically to display in web maps. I also write code for front-ends so it shows up in maps and PDFs and endpoints and spreadsheets and open data portals.

The benefits are crazy, the people in my immediate team are all kind, intelligent people who intend to stay until retirement when the pension kicks in.

And I sleep well at night knowing that my effort translates into better services for the community instead of extra profit for shareholders and some asshole CEO.
