I would argue that losing an election fair and square, fabricating baseless allegations of fraud in favor of your opponent, and then proceeding to gaslight your idiotic followers into storming the Capitol to stop the certification process is, in fact, a coup.
I remember in the lead up to the 2016 election a common argument in support of Trump was how he is a brilliant businessman and knows how to find the best people. Is there anyone he appointed or hired as president that he and his supporters haven't called incompetent at some point or another?
Some think he's a messenger from god on top of that. These people shouldn't be allowed to participate in society imo
I just can’t understand how anyone who watched “The Apprentice” or paid any attention to him prior to 2015 thought “oh yeah, this is the guy I want in charge of the country” much less the doubling and tripling down that’s resulted since. Boggles the mind.
there is a guy in the Bourdain thread today that voted for Trump twice I understand being Right Wing means you are largely/entirely alienated by The Culture, so you really don't have many places to turn without being contradictory...I just don't know how you could look up to both men simultaneously.

Its been pretty instructive for me the past ~5ish years to see the lengths people go to, to let their eyes & mind deceive them. Like every episode of Trump was predictable but then anyone who was forecasting the insanity was always met with a "Well Actually, Mr. Alarmist" resistance. January 6 seemed inevitable. If it werent for sheer incompetence by the players involved, just imagine. but like, all this wasnt kooky to say. It was all right in front of our eyes before it happened.
I definitely underestimated how stupid, racist, and xenophobic we were as a country. Was disappointing but ultimately I appreciate it.
He didn’t though. He always embodied egotism. His bankruptcies showed his business prowess for what it was.

Not to be a dick because I haven't always been on the right side of history but 2015 Trump was pretty obviously going for a certain thing that was exactly what he became if you watched any of his speeches. It was horrific and I felt like I was taking crazy pills seeing people take him seriously.
We were predicting January 6 for months during his presidency and we're just a bunch of assholes on the internet. It was an astoundingly obvious conclusion

We were talking at least 2 months in advance about how he was going to get people killed with his refusal to accept the election results if he loses.
They turned on Ivanka when she got the vaccine but I guess that was after she finished her distinguished time in office We’re gonna build the wall and Mexico is gonna pay for it to keep out the rapists and murderers.
