glad you posted this so didn’t have to. if this thread was losing posters left and right because of bad mods I assume we’d see it show up in the massive activity logs and the terabytes of data our CDN handles but it just isn’t accurate
Mix had a good post on this topic already but yes we started this place as a free-for-all forum/hellscape/thunder dome when we were like 20 years old and still thought dumb shit like that was a good idea. the place has evolved and grown and if people don’t like what it’s become that’s honestly fine. I have not been around as much lately and I need to get back into the posting swing especially now that we have a good group of mods that makes it much easier for me to enjoy this place and not see it as work. but I still care deeply for this place the reality is that we have not lost a significant amount of posters or seen traffic declines since we started asking users to be decent human beings to each other. and further we wouldn’t give a fuck if we did. if someone leaves over these requirements that’s fine, I don’t care. no one has put as anywhere close to the amount of work into this place as me or mix as we have both spent untold free hours over the last 11 years keeping it online and upgrading it (often not well). both of us want to run a site and community that’s at least somewhat respectable. voice your opinions, call each other names, whatever, but outright harassment or whatever just isn’t going to be tolerated anymore because it’s 2020 and not 2009 and we’re all grown ups. that’s the way it is. if you don’t like that I suggest you retreat into whatever shitty corner of the internet will accept you and stop fantasizing that this is the same place it was back then or that it will ever be that way again
I just hung out with my wife’s family members so it was fairly normal. I definitely wouldn’t go to some big party. I despise the president and don’t like the way country is going at the moment but I still have hope, which is why it’s not weird to me. Plus I have a ton of vets in my family, including my dad.
