My job ends Friday. I get to go to my parent's house, get my dogs and go home. 3 months without them sucks. Can't wait to be tackled when I come in the door like I was in August when I went to visit.
Dierks is without cancer Benign cystic tumor of the hair follicle on his torso, excessive skin growth or skin tag on back Good day
Update on Rosco: Didn't "find a tumor" but sent x-rays and info to a few heart docs and they said it's definitely cancer, so we'll have to wait and hear what kind whenever they find out. They know that fluid is getting into his heart somehow and/or one chamber isn't working at all. if it's Hemangiosarcoma then it's 19-86 day life expectancy and chemo or whatever treatments don't do anything but make the dog miserable for the additional 4-5 months they live... don't think this route is even under consideration. Pretty gloom outlook at this point and hopefully he hangs around long enough for everyone to see him at thanksgiving and christmas. ole Sco is gonna get a loaded fucking plate of awesome food at thanksgiving dinner if I have anything to say about it. don't care if he shits all over the house he deserves it. Also dad is already talking about getting another golden while Rosco is still around so there's not some "empty" interim. He lives in a house with females and a shih tzu - dude needs a man dog at that house to stay sane IMO
god willing if he makes it to christmas too then I'm having some stuff shipped to AL from a really cool dog bakery here in Austin that I'll give him for Christmas. I know my brother will probably buy more gifts for him than anyone in our family. I'm ok with all siblings donating $ they would spend on ____ gift card to dog gifts instead
the average life is too short to begin with and cutting that almost in half is just a shitty shitty fact of life. my dog is 2 months older than Rosco I'm not sure what I would do if something happened to him. brb taking late lunch to go for a walk to our neighborhood park w/ the fur
Sebastian is going home tomorrow, same family is also adopting Barkeley (for those who remember, that's the Belgian Malinois we rescued several months ago that supposedly had bad hip dysplasia, turned out he had a wheelbarrow full of bricks fall over on him and crush his entire back half, so we got his surgery done and he is completely normal now). Makes me so happy I want to cry when I think about it, both those dogs deserve awesome homes. Sebastian hates to be alone so this is really the best possible situation for them both.
Hey all, thanks for the thoughts, wife is fine, she was on the strip last night but was back at her hotel before everything went down. I didn't hear from her for quite a while with the time difference so i had some anxious hours this morning, but all is good.
Hi guys, meet Zizou. A 2.5 year old greyhound who retired from racing this summer. Adopted him a little over a month ago and he's transitioned so well to home life. Still learning how to be a dog and how to play, but he gets along really well with other dogs and new people. Highly recommend greyhounds to anyone who is interested
I absolutely love my greyhound. They definitely take some getting used to and aren’t for a rookie dog owner. Did yours actually race?
Yup, he was a prestigious champion. And by champion, I mean he won 1 out of his 24 career races in the lowest tier available to him. He then disappeared off camera in his next/last race and was never seen again. But I think if you win even once you get to be a champion for life.
24 is a lot of races so young. I’m pretty sure they don’t start official races until 2. Nymeria was just over 2 when I got her. I found records of 4 races with 1 win then she was retired. You may want to have him x-rayed for signs of injury. Nymeria broke her leg just running about 3 months after I got her. When they did the X-rays they found bone spurs and some other evidence of previous injury right where they break happened. Both vets that saw it figure she probably got hurt at the track and the owner just retired her to the adoption group without telling them. And yes, they are absolutely champions for life.
Yeah we had x-rays done in the initial visit when we got him and they didn't see any evidence of previous injuries. Nothing was reported as well so who knows. Definitely a worry though. In that last race he started really slow and seemingly just gave up, so hopefully it wasn't anything bad. It's crazy how you can go back and watch all/most of their races though. When we adopted him it was the first thing we showed people
What site did you use to watch them? I haven’t seen any of hers. Just found records on a couple random sites.
The agency we adopted from gave us this site with all of his race logs. Most have video. http://www.trackinfo.com/dog.jsp?runnername=Man+Inthe+Mirror
Bonnie (~6 year old lab) limps after laying around for a few minute and after 2 mile runs. Is a joint medicine going to fix this problem? https://www.chewy.com/dog/dp/101451...2ljOi_DmVdT1wFFYnnIaAowqEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
My dog broke his front leg when he was a puppy. Had limped all his life because the growth plate broke and didn't heal correctly. I started him on cosequin dx and saw a big improvement in his energy level and ability to walk. Definitely worth a shot.
Also, we saved this pup last week, one vet says the condition is likely due to surviving distemper as a pup, other vet disagrees but doesn't say what the cause is. Either way, she is very sweet, crate trained and has control of bodily functions, but her back end just doesn't seem to want to behave.
Anybody dealt with an enzyme deficiency? After 3 months of treatment its looking more and more like that’s the case for my 7.5 month old GSD mix. Keeps having diarrhea despite several food changes and a couple different dewormers. Weird part is he’s gaining weight just fine and perfectly normal except for some nasty #2. Enzyme deficiency is somewhat common for GSDs. Pic related because I haven’t posted in here yet.
Yes, we had a GSD that had an enzyme deficiency and he required a daily pig enzyme to compensate. He literally smelled like shit and his coat was a mess but he lived a nice life and was able to deuce like any normal dog.
Yeah, the weird part is he's showing no side effects other than consistent diarrhea. Seems perfectly happy and energetic, vet physical exam didn't show anything abnormal. Just can't make the deuces right.
I have a Rottweiler now who had consistent diarrhea as a pup and we narrowed it down to allergies. He's on Hills z/D for dry and then we also determined he is good with chicken, Krill Oil, Coconut, Carrots, green beans and Dasuquin. So he eventually grew out of the shits between 1.5-2 years old and it wasn't always consistent. We really only found out through him getting repeated ear infections. Basically it was a long controlled process and we determined he was more than likely allergic to Lamb and pretty much any dog treat on the market. Now his dog treats are carrots, ice cubes and dehydrated chicken. Luckily his palate isn't that refined.
My Chloey is a Rotty too. Will be pissing the wife off soon with another as well. Wanting another Rotty Pup again. Jorts down for another roadtrip?
