Boarded Luca during our recent trip to NYC. Missed him a ton. He obviously missed me too, as he’s been my shadow since we got back.
hello friends and comrades. 1 month ago, i adopted a 7 year old female German Shepherd Dog from a rescue agency in Omaha, NE. unfortunately, she had spent her life in the WOAT state of missourah, where she was bred prolifically in a puppy mill by some Amish folks. Poor Margot has not had a good life up until about mid June. when the organization came to her rescue, she was very underweight (50 lbs), had a very strong yeasty odor, and had a raging ear infection. she was living in squalor. but the worst of it was that emotionally, she was absolutely fucked up. while a very gentle dog, she was scared of everything and everyone except her foster mom. she spent the first 3 days at my house shitting every 2 hours because she was so nervous and scared. never underestimate how cruel people can be to animals. This poor little thing sometimes still gives me an expression like she is just ashamed of herself for even being alive, just heart breaking. however things are really looking up for her. every day she does something that would be commonplace for a regular dog but is brand new to her. in terms of knowledge of being a dog, she is basically a puppy. today, she played with a toy for the first time (probably in her life). going for walks aren't as traumatic as they were 3 weeks ago. sit and down are still totally foreign concepts and im a fucking idiot for even suggesting them, but we will keep working on it. she is more than happy to jump on the couch or bed and have snuggle time, especially between the hours of 1 am and 4 am when im trying to sleep. hellloooo attention plz i don't know anything about any headphones, fella if anyone in the NE/Iowa/KC area is looking to adopt from a great agency, consider these guys. they mostly do german sheps but have some other stragglers from time to time. they rescue a shit load of dogs (this list turns over really quickly). https://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/animals/list
posted this in the Austin thread too, but thought I would double up Anybody interested in a purebred Catahoula pup, 9 months old? I have a co-worker who is moving to NY and cant take their pup with them Pup is in Austin if you or you know of anyone who might be interested, let me know
It happened to my lab. Poor thing is a perfect dog, but her family abandoned her when they moved. The first time we moved was the summer I got her and she flipped her shit when she saw me loading up stuff in a truck to bring to my new house. Hopefully that pup finds a home with someone who wants it.
Got to meet the next litter that will be available in a couple weeks, Catahoula mixes, they are adorable. Not the best pics but the coloring and patterns on them are insane, never seen anything like it. Here's momma, Maddie
Stayed at my friends' house this weekend and his bulldog was just so god damned adorable. I couldn't stop laughing at it for a while because of how much it was snoring and weezing while sleeping
Groot does except when I give him a bath or wash it. Flash doesn’t. Groot is more mine. Flash is more my son’s. Groot sleeps in my room so if I have to wake up early or take him down late I don’t want to have to look fir it and I am not walking him at all by his collar (bulldogs should never be walked/pulled by a collar). I keep it loose enough to were I can stick my hand between him and the harness. He has worn one since about 16 weeks so I don’t think it bothers him. Unless someone knows why he shouldn’t , it works best for me.
Other update, my boy is doing great. 13 years old and doing great. It was a scary thing though, was not himself.
Just curious is all. My dogs barely wear collars anymore if they aren't outside. I've seen dogs w/ harnesses in a lot of pictures so I was just wondering
No problem. I was just explaining why I keep him in his all the time. I live in a condo in a big city so no way I could take him down to take care of his business without a leash. I’ve gotten mad at my kids for taking flash on just her collar. At least she is calm so she really doesn’t pull so it makes it better than him. His harness just doesn’t come off because he pulls too much and having him on the collar would be cruel.
We had to ditch Millie’s harness even though she looked fly as fuck in it. Some puppers get hot spots much easier than others. We mainly used a harness to avoid her neck for a while, though. Shortly before we adopted her, she had her neck sewn together because there was a chain embedded in it. Now she doesn’t mind walking with a collar. Writing this reminded me of her previous owner and how I hope they’ve gotten flattened by a bus by now.
My lab (2 years old) is getting TPLO surgery on Friday. Anyone here had this done? Recovery seems pretty daunting for a dog this active.
My dog is just finishing up his recovery period. Has been crated since May 31. Still can’t play as hard as he did, or at least we won’t let him, but the rehab and recovery hasn’t been nearly as bad as I expected. Just keep him in the crate. It sucks, buts it’s for the best.
Are you continuing to crate him even when you're home? I work from home so mine is accustomed to just doing whatever he wants.
Not anymore, but we did up until last week. We still block him off from having free reign of the house though. We gradually increased his time out of the crate. Still walk him in the backyard on a leash, even though it’s fenced.
Also it’s amazing how much they realize their limitations. We thought he would be hard to handle, but he would get tired easy and start heading straight for the door when he was done. Now he even lays in the crate when he doesn’t have to.
Best of luck on upcoming procedures. This is Scout attempting to help hang sheetrock over the weekend.
