My 13 year old Jack Russell died in my wife's arms this afternoon. He's had diabetes for a few years and we knew the day was coming but it still feels like a train hit me. We got him when we first moved in together so he's been with us since we've known each other. Hug your pups extra tight tonight gents.
Have a story that might perk this thread up. First though condolences on the losses. I let my Husky and Cholate Lab in last night. They were wide open and way more rambunctious than normal. They went in their crates and I took my Pug out back. She started going ape shit and running circles around something. When I walked up it looked like a kitten. My dogs killed my neighbors cat a few years ago so I was kinda nervous. I shined a flash light on it and it was a possum. It was still alive so the wife went and got the .22. She shot it in the head twice at point blank range. It wasn’t dead so I shot it one more time. Finally it was out of its misery and I realized my wife might actually shoot worse than she drives
Sorry to those who recently lost their pups. Wrigley hopes you know you gave them a great life and they were lucky to have you and vice versa.
Possums would break into and eat all of our cat food when i was growing up. Armadillos were the real hated vermin. Always messing up my dads lawn.
We have possums that live in a tree in our backyard. I've also come to the conclusion that they are good.
Scout tries to eat his leg every night. When I make him stop, he calmly switches to eating a different leg.
Everything about this video rules. The sneak-up. The look-out dogger. The careful handling of the cargo. The escape. Perfect other than the whole being caught on camera thing.
Our new pup has been an absolute terror the last couple of weeks. In no particular order: 1) rolling in bird shit multiple times a day 2) eating anything in the yard she finds, gave herself a bacterial infection 3) vomiting in response to the antibiotics to said infection 4) peeing on the outdoor furniture while playing with the neighbor’s dog 5) breaking glass vases while chasing the cats 6) eating decorative starfish when I’m not looking 7) eating carpet strands while I’m looking right at her and yelling at her to stop Here she is knowing what a naughty dog she’s been: And here she is looking at me defiantly when I tell her she’s going to be a good girl from now on:
Poor Moose somehow got a cut on his foot that he wouldn’t quit picking at so he landed on cone duty. Definitely the most relaxed this pup has EVER been.
Hard headed and stubborn but amazing retrievers. Some of the best dogs I've hunted with were chessies. They don't seem to be as happy go lucky as labs, at least the ones I've been around
She is quite an animal. We don't have much in the way of waterfowl hunting nearby, so I haven't hunted over her in water. Her energy level is off the charts when we are around, and require daily retrieval sessions, if any of us plan on sleeping that night. Like any breed, each dog has their own personality (this is my second Chesapeake), so I won't make sweeping generalizations about them versus labs. cutig is on the right track. They are smart, instinctive, and very hardworking, by and large. We got lucky with this one in that she is the most affectionate dog I have known as an adult. She also doesn't shed like her predecessor did, thankfully. Like a lot of you guys, I think my dog is perfect, and life wouldn't be complete without her.
He is part poodle too but, it shows when I don't get to walk him like he needs too. I'd like to run with him but he doesn't know how to just jog and not try to nip and jump every second. He was crazy how different he was when he was at my parents and able to run freely outside all the time.
Haven't done a Pixel update in a while. Last month I flew out to LA to record a podcast about Pixel and animal rescue in general. Its here if anyone wants to listen.
And here is our current foster, who may become our first foster fail. This is Nari, 4 year old Corgi/Eskimo mix, going through treatment for heartworms. She is the sweetest dog I've ever seen, great with our cats, awesome with the dogs, completely fearless with Scarlet. The wife definitely wants to keep her. I'm still on the fence, but only from a practical standpoint.
