They are really good boys that just love people and animals and smells and toys and food and the wind and sounds and...
Truman is 7 years old now. And every spring when it gets warmer out, it still takes him a few days to realize he cant just bolt out the door when I open it because there's a screen door in the way. Watching him bash into the screen door is pretty funny tho
My black lab broke my parents door. She saw a squirrel in a tree once so every time she went outside, she'd go full speed out the door. Got to the point where you'd tell her to sit, then as soon as you touched the door she'd charge out. My parents dogs knew how to let themselves out, so sometimes she'd wait for them to open the door. Usually ended up with a 90lb lab going full sprint through the door. Eventually the frame broke.
We were watching GoT last night and on a season 2 episode there is a close up of a direwolf. Blue was on the couch with me and staring at the TV at that moment and when that wolf was on screen his ears went straight up, dropped his toy out of his mouth and let out a couple puppy "I swear I'm big and tough" barks. Was quite funny to watch.
One thing I've noticed is he has a bad habit off just dyaing at the backdoor when hes outside by himself. If someone goes outside he is ready to play all day. But alone, he whines and sits at the door. I'm sure part of it is separation anxiety and just needs to be worked through. I'm wondering if there are some kind of interactive toys that can get his attention and get him playing by himself outside.
There was always a video going around on FB showing a good boy playing by himself. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=automatic+ball+launcher&hvadid=153709508605&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9014923&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=18011424849442218804&hvtargid=aud-649564993678:kwd-301588689583&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_4we6tw1s1h_e
http://www.varsitypetsonline.com/products/Varsity-Ball Layla loves hers and can play with it as long as we'll let her.
wes tegg I didn't want to drop $45 on one of those without knowing if he would actually play with it. Found a similar one on Amazon for like $15 (I'm sure the quality isn't as high) and it had free one day shipping. If it works for him than as soon as he destroys the cheap one I'll order one of the varsity ones.
There's a park near my house with some wetlands in it. Last year I had the bright idea to let the dogs run near one without thinking about how much the yellow lab loves water. He went straight through the cattails and I heard splashing and carrying on. He came out a chocolate lab.
The pointer’s coat doesn’t hold it, so she’s easy. The collie-mix loves to roll and she’s usually covered nose to tail, but if she dries off before we get home, it just falls out. That particular beach is only a couple miles from our house, which normally means a bath because the little one won’t dry in time. We’ve got a big utility sink in our laundry room that fits her perfectly so I just plop her in it and rinse away. They tend to get a lot dirtier on hikes and runs because they pick up more mud. I’ve grown numb to the sand anyway. We track it in ourselves and it’s impossible to avoid.
The emaciated hound we rescued has finally put on weight. Still has some more pounds to go, but now she looks like one of the roided up kangaroos.
Wish I could take my Husky to the beach and swim but he is too damn smart and doesn't listen if he has better options. Last time I took him swimming in the lake he swam 5 cottages down, jumped the shore and started running in the woods. Luckily the people at that cottage grabbed him until I got there. He is pretty well trained to a point, he knows the commands and mostly follows them, but like i said hes too smart and knows when he is being tricked. I'm scared to let that dog off leash ever because he is so damn fast too he is gone in a minute. At home he loves being in our backyard and at the end of the night he eventually will knock to come inside or come in when he is hungry or when he hears the leash being grabbed for his walk. I think he'd eventually get tired and come back, but who knows when and how far away he would get before then. It really sucks because my lab is so good off leash too.
wes tegg I'm not sure why the video took so crappy but here is Blue playing with his knock off varsity ball.
We have our dogs bell trained to go outside. I don't let the younger one out unsupervised because he will dig holes, but sometimes I let the older one out by herself to just lay in the sun. What is funny is she will just sit by the sliding glass door when she wants to come in and the younger dog will hit the bell to let me know to let the other dog in.
Greyhound but I'm biased. I think greyhounds are more unique/less common. But no one should choose a dog based on that.
Pug. I have a corgi and lord help me if I was single. Every time I’d take her for a walk or to a patio girls would always want to come over and pet her and take pics.
