Our 9 yo had the TPLO procedure done. It sucked seeing him go through it and taking him out in a leash with a towel under his belly holding him up, but he’s good now. We have been extremely cautious with him though because they said it’s likely that the other one will have issues at some point. Probably too cautious actually.
My greyhound had some kind of subluxation injury to her lower hock and had a plate and 9 screws put in. Don't think that's the same kind of surgery but I think a couple posters here have dogs that had acl tears.
The second knee is something i hadn’t even considered and now, after reading, sounds like she might be predisposed to this type of injury and there’s an increased chance of the other knee needing surgery. Fuck. What did the procedure cost you? We can’t stand to see her limp around like this and she’s still a pup, so surgery seems likely.
I would definitely do the surgery if that is what is recommended. He’s been good as new if we would stop being so overprotective. I think it was like $2500 or so. But we have pet insurance so we got 90% back.
I've done 3 knee surgeries. They usually cost around $4,000-$4,500. If they test one they are 80% or something likely going to tear the other. AMA
as someone who has seen many TPLO surgeries, yes, but it is a long process and the post surgery rehab and care is just as important as the actual surgery
Posted years and years ago showing all three of my Doberman boys together. 2/16, 6/17, and 12/17 I lost them all to various deaths. Was a brutal gut punch over and over again. Took about a year to mourn and/or figure things out. Christmas last year I bought a sweet girl for myself.
Got a question for the fellow dog owners who happen to be lawyers too. Anyone who might know help would be appreciated. Long story short I walk my daughter to school and take Groot with us. Recently we found a short cut through a school parking lot. The school is tiny so it seems like the parking lot is connected to the playground (there is no fence between the two) it’s just one big lot. I am literally in the lot about 30 seconds. Today some asshat told me I couldn’t cut through the school anymore. Me being who I am told him to stop me. My question is can they do anything legally? I ask because he threatened to call the cops. I know it’s a public school but I figured since it’s before school and I am in what appears to a parking lot I should be fine. I am wrong? Obviously the easiest thing for me to do is go back to walking around the school or not taking Groot if I am walking through it. But, like I said me being me I can’t seem to just do the easy thing. wes tegg 941Gator Why?Pokes what if anything do you guys know about this? Can I be arrested for trespassing? Can anyone attempt to physically stop me and if they do can I protect myself? TIA
Yes, you can be charged for trespassing on public property. I doubt they would arrest you, but they would give some sort of citation/summons. Depends on county/state. Some states require a proper warning. Yes, you can defend yourself from harm, but that might be a tough sell to police/state. Would depend on the exact facts. Make sure he swings first.
We have no dogs on school grounds rules here as well and when I am an official with our soccer club and we are using those fields we have to tell people to remove their dogs. We are instructed to call the police if someone doesn't comply, but none of us would ever do that. Sure I think he can legally prevent you from doing it, but from a practical standpoint what are the odds that this same guy sees you, has the time to stop you, and then enforce anything if it truly takes 30 seconds to walk across that area?
My pit Mila had this done when she was 1, she's 6 1/2 now and hasn't had any issues at all since then. the worst part of it, other than it being expensive as fuck, is them having to be crated pretty much 24/7 for about 3 months afterwards. she didn't understand why she was being kept locked up all the time and got depressed to the point that she stopped eating for several days.
Missed this from the weekend, sorry. Yes, nearly 100%. My male American Bulldog had his first at around 10mo and then his second around 3. He was a perfect angel until a tumor took him from me this summer. My female American Bulldog had one leg, maybe around 7. She's 9 now and I'm praying her lazy ass enjoys sleeping on the bed the rest of her life and doesn't tear the other. As Luka mentioned, the recover is tough. It's essentially 8 weeks of nothing. Gotta keep them still, only outside on a leash, etc. Then after that maybe another month of just building them back. One dog was fine with being lazy, the other was heart broken he couldn't be around my wife and I It's expensive, but they are fine after. Maybe some arthritis as they age but surgery is very successful. It sucks, I'm just glad I have the means to do it
It is maybe 30-40 seconds one way in one gate and out the other about maybe 20 -30 feet. Today I was across the street when the guy yelled that I couldn’t do it anymore. This was just some random parent I’ve seen drop of his kids before. It just pissed me off because I don’t handle fake tough guys well.
I'm no lawyer but probably some rules against dogs on school property, but I can't imagine a cop would give a fuck if if you/daughter just walked on school property to fucking school
Probably bad for insurance in case a dog attacks a kid plus dog poop is gross and people don’t pick up after their dogs
yeah it seems like I am going to have to go around or not take Groot and take him on at a different time. I just hate giving that asshat the satisfaction of thinking he stopped me.
I'd maybe not take your pup for a week and purposefully cut across the school property and make the cunt call the police
Obviously neither one of these things apply to me Groot is on a leach I hold tight and I’d never let him poop on school grounds but I get your point. It fucking sucks .
This is good. Yeah, i think we’ve all but made the decision to have surgery. Going back to the vet on Fri for a follow up (she’s been on anti inflammatory meds) and theyll sedate for a drawer test, if necessary. She’s only one and a ball of energy, so they didn’t even do that last week. Keeping this dog from running around the house post surgery seems like an impossible task (saying this as I’m watching the dog and my 5yo daughter fight over stuffed animals). Regarding the possibility of the other leg, I get a discount on pet insurance through my company, so figure we’ll go that route. Jesus the thought of going through this twice
So, a few of the kennel people at Tosu's daycare are leaving for another new daycare. She said it was mostly due to management and some disagreements/differences on pup safety. Think we may switch daycares. Ideally I'd like him to be in both, but that's pretty concerning if you're loosing your aids due to concerns. Plus, Tosu was bit at this daycare, but it's currently the only option. We only take him a couple days, opposed to the 3-4 we used to. Pricing is the same at the new daycare. It's a little further away. Don't know what their setup is. Don't know how he'll do with his entrance exam.
My dog loves it too, it’s perfect for him after running around he just rolls in it to cool off. Well he used to do it. He is a little too old for that now.
We don't use it too often, but it's extra fun when we lose the ball in deep snow. We treat that as a job for him to relocate it. He gets a kick out of making snowballs with it to fetch though. We're hikers in the winter.
sorry for your loss. I feel weird giving you a like for that post. It’s a stupid way to give you my condolences it’s not a like about the content.
