I would look into other holistic methods or change their diet in other ways. The yogurt thing helped fwiw. It’s basically like they’re baking bread in their ears. Clean them out after swimming with that cleaning solution you can order online. Whenever I’d clean out Molly’s ears with the solution she’d let out this deep pleasurable groan I’d never heard noise come out of a dog like that, it was hilarious. Squirt that shit in there, massage it around and wipe it out with a clean rag.
Yeah I have a cleansing solution that we use. They absolutely hate it but figured out they get a treat when we're done
I think we might be in trouble with Cinder lol. When I went running with Watson (our last foster) he was done for the day. I took this one on my longer run and the asshole isn't even breathing hard and is now doing wind sprints around the house. Total personality 180 from the terrified pupper who arrived two days ago. Very playful and has a huge personality. Very mouthy when she's playing so working on that now
I’ve had a few labs and they all got ear infections. They loved playing in stagnant water, creeks, ponds, etc when walking in the parks and woods. I think it’s just a common lab thing.
That was what my previous vets had all told me. Labs being labs just were more prone to get them. Floppy ears and water lovers
I thought they found the answer to this or at least the theory is a lack of taurine. Also, I believe it was more linked to exotic proteins. I know Zignature brand started adding Taurine to their food and had notes on their bag about the addition and how it helps.
I didn't follow up after the fda notifications about it. I read it may have been because of the substituted ingredients for grains in those foods but again that could've changed.
That is without question Sabo's favorite position. Always makes me think he's wanting me to draw him like one of my French girls.
New foster seems very disinterested in food and doesn't drink very much either. Tried 3 different foods thus far and pretty much only eats if you sit there and feed her. It's been three days and she's only eaten a few handfuls
Also sorry for all the questions. We're new to dogs and it's weird dealing with new issues every few weeks
Where did you get her from? Maybe find out how she was eating before and what she liked. Its probably due to the new environment. Any better luck with high-value treats? I.e. peanut butter, cheez-whiz, dog biscuits, etc.
She was in a shelter in San Antonio so not sure. She'll go for PB or cheese if you give it to her but not bothered if it's in her bowl. Other than not eating she seems in great spirits
Seems like Sabo may have an abscess on his tooth/upper gum line. Would be great if it’s just some random sore or something (doesn’t appear to bother him at all), but looks like an abscess to me. Hopefully they don’t have to remove the tooth since it’s a pretty important one. Spoiler
Our older rescue turns food-picky when she’s nervous/scared, but we’ve dealt w that issue in pups we’re raised from a newborn too. In absolute terms, he/she will eat when they need to, so you don’t need to worry about malnourishment unless they’re also displaying obvious signs of illness. If instead you’re worried about establishing a routine and keeping him/her at an optimal body weight, just devote some time to sitting there at feeding time, and consider dog-friendly people foods as a temporary step. Cook a bunch of plain chicken and rice, maybe a spoonful of yogurt, and put some of the dog food in there while slowly increasing the ratio of dog-to-people food over time. Also, we’ve had our best results doing a mixture of wet and dry food with the picky eater. I do a 2-3:1 dry-to-wet ratio and give the easy eater a spoonful of the wet so she doesn’t feel left out.
Got the big girl a new treat toy, fake bone, and collar to celebrate 5 years since the day I picked her up
Were the teeth toward the back of the mouth or what? I have no idea what to expect with this, but Sabo's mouth is a little swollen too.
Yeah ody's were towards the back, molars (I guess idk if theyre something different for dogs.) He had some swelling for sure, but it looked like a bee stung him on the cheek. There was more redness around where the gum and tooth met, rather than a growth or sore or something. I'm definitely no expert, but they had to remove 3 teeth I think, and he hasn't had a problem since. Definitely different for a canine tooth I'm sure, but the picture of Sabo just looks different from what I recall Ody's looking like.
Spock used to sleep like this sometimes, and it was hilarious. He would fall asleep for a second and get spasm. It looked like he was air boxing. And when we stayed up late it was worse, he was dreaming sometimes and he was air running (upside down and barking in a high pitch). This happened like twice in 15 years but I was laughing so hard.
My lab currently has an ear infection Gets like one or two a year Cleaning solution once or twice seems to knock em down every time She hates it though, learned I have no chance to wipe it away cause I barely get a chance to massage it in before she is shaking her head to get it out of her ears
I’d be more mad at Carlos for squirming up onto the bar if he hadn’t just jumped off of a 10 ft loft in the shed and rocketed away unhurt and unconcerned.
Wally doesn’t care for hats. A beer garden in Scottsdale does dog birthday parties so we took him there for his first in January. I think the total of all attempts to get him to wear the party hat lasted 15 seconds.
Just got our first pup as a couple. He’s about 3 months old Any suggestions on dog food? Or dog food subscriptions where I just get monthly orders to the house? Any advice is appreciated
I am so happy I will post him tomorrow when I can get better photos and when we have a name for him lol
He will show you what he likes/fits his needs. You just need to pay attention. I have an opinion and it’s just an opinion, not facts. I think dogs benefit from getting a bit of meat a few times a week, just cook a bit of chicken, beef or pork without any other ingredients. No salt especially. You give that to your dog and it will be healthy for him and also be an absolute joy for him. Better than a treat
We also do Blue Buffalo. Vet said fish would be better for his skin allergies so he eats the salmon and brown rice. Shit smells like cat food but he seems to like it.
We get Core Wellness. Like to change up the flavors so Tosu doesn’t get bored. Recently went with small game flavor and he looooooves it.
have 3 dogs. About 4 years ago we started makin four own dog food. Give them a little of that + dry dog food. They have soooo much more energy and are much healthier than they were
Yep. We looked for months (dogs have been going from shelters like crazy down here) and finally it all worked out.
So we looked for months at shelters. We wanted a low shedding dog as we both have allergies and for other reasons. I guess there has been a ton of adoptions due to people being home more so for example yesterday we went to an adoption event and waited for 2 hours and still had 10 people in front of us. So I finally looked on Craigslist and found this guy. The lady claimed she was looking to re home him for $100 as she was moving to somewhere that didn’t take dogs We showed up and it was pretty clear he didn’t have the best home environment. The lady did not seem to care about him much and didn’t even seem sad to see him leave. He’s 3 months old. His dad is a terrier (it was the lady’s neighbors dog) which she pointed out to us as he was outside walking around. His mom is a chiweenie. Taking him to the vet tomorrow for his 5pm appointment. He’s great. Name to be determined, I am thinking Dax as one of my favorite wvu b-ball players was daxter miles Welcome to the tmb dog family buddy!
He hasn’t been eating much yet but the lady said he loves potato chips so I hope he’s ready for a new diet lol
