The anticipation...it’s so overwhelming. I’m 100% convinced that my nieces 4H steers enjoy the atomic heeler circus as much as the dogs.
Ok so this is an odd post. My wife’s friend has a 4 year old pitbull named Zeus. She can’t take care of him anymore because she has a 2 yr old daughter and a baby on the way and her husband committed suicide. The dog is neutered and great with kids and other animals but she just can’t take care of it all now. Dump i know you’re more in the DFW area but if you know anyone hit me up. She is just looking for a good home for him.
She doesn’t want to get rid of the dog but she just can’t take care of him. I wish I could take him myself.
I’ve never met the dog but I’m straight up going to bat for him. I’ll take my son and corgi to meet him if that’s what it takes to get him a good home.
It is a rehoming process for owners that dont want to surrender their animal to a shelter Where does she live?
Dang Here is another site she can post him on: https://rehome.adoptapet.com/ I would see if there are any reputable Pit Bull rescues in the Houston area around her as well
Think I'm going to take the last pick of these two pups' litter so Katsu has a homie to play with while I work.
My 9 year old lab has been slowing down a bit, he has a leg that was deformed after an accident when he was a puppy so he's had a limp his whole life. Recently he's been acting like it hurt him, yelped a few times when I was moving it around to see what was going on. Brought him to the vet today but if course while the vet was manhandling him he just wagged his tail and didn't make a noise. All this to say, she gave me 20 days worth of Previcox to try and see if it would alleviate some of the pain. Anyone have experience with that one?
You typically find a foster org you want. I did some through a GSD one. You are interviewed. Typical dog questions like how would you respond to this behavior, what would you do to make the new family and dog feel comfortable etc etc. You can have preferences on the dogs you want to foster (age sex etc). You foster, most things are paid for. Some dogs are wonderful, some need more love. It goes great most of the time. Sometimes you're a foster failure and adopt the dog. Other times you meet/call with prospective families and feel out if the dog/family would fit together. Good times. Except when one shits on your new king bed diarrhea style.
another thing to keep in mind is what kind of dwelling do you live in. The foster organization we interviewed with wanted minimal steps, yard with fence, etc. Really there should be a good interview process to go over all the details and expectations. It helps lining the foster parents up with good fits for their home, so beneficial for both sides. A lot of states will have a breed specific rescue organization. Which are always in need of donations.
Maybe I wouldn't be a good foster. There's a lack of rules over here, bit of a free for all. They can use any piece of furniture they want plus sleep in the bed, I hand out treats daily, jumping on people gets you more love, live on acreage with lots of squirrels and rabbits so there's likely to be a bloodbath. They'll just leave here with a ton of bad habits. edit to add: I emailed the humane society about taking their dogs on walks/runs. Until I get something set up I think I'm just gonna swing by the dog park here and there and play with people's dogs.
Christ I would love to train and raise a malinois, and would utterly fail at it if this is the highest point
It turned out to be a sebaceous cyst so they drained it and cleaned it and sent us on our way. Glad I got it checked out but happier that it wasn’t serious. Thanks for checking
My dog was $2,000, raised by an ethical breeder who raised the litter with puppy culture methods. He’s the best dog I’ve ever had. And the sweetest. Absolutely zero regrets.
ugh, that's a side of rescue i didn't even know about. I know how bad puppy mills are but I didn't realize the auction thing happened. Every time I see a doodle and hear how much people paid for them, I just rage.
The hate and rage should go toward the breeders, of any breed, not just doodles. Pretty sure Dump ‘s post listed French bulldogs as well. Fuck all breeders. But the doodle hate on here is weird. I’ve adopted two doodles and a standard poodle. When I was younger and ignorant to breeding practices, I bought a doodle. But I’ve grown and they are great dogs, so I’ll continue to own them. But I’ll always get them from a rescue.
No doubt, don't disagree with anything you said, and I don't hate the breed, I hate the mostly ignorant people who want doodles because it is trendy and because they are supposedly hypoallergenic, when people should really just man the fuck up and take allergy meds or foster a dog to see if it is hypo, because it is more about the individual dog and their own bodies than the breed overall. I don't hate or discourage all breeders because there are some good ones, but by and large I wish we could eliminate them for sure.
I feel like its 50/50 between them actually being allergic which is mainly just an exposure thing or its more of a “I want a dog but I don’t want it to shed” thing, which I wish I could tell them to fuck off Good for THEBLUERAIDER for going to a Doodle rescue tho
Here is our newest addition to the family. We rescued him from a piece of shit breeder through our rescue back in September, I think. He’s almost a year now. The rescue and we thought he was going to be a standard size, but he’s a mini. He’s nuts but I’d rescue him again 100 times out of a 100.
We didn’t get ours from a doodle rescue, although there are plenty out there. We got them from our local rescue where my wife volunteers, Proverbs1210 out of Nashville.
