My ideal life would be driving around town finding all the stray dogs, bringing them home and getting them healthy, then getting homes for them. EDIT - and beating the shit out of the people who abuse them... Alas, I have no one to finance such a lifestyle.
there were several people in the comments who said they would drive there to get him, hoping that works out....
Spoiler Our puppy hated her first Halloween with all the doorbells and strangers but god damn she is cute
puppy wasn't that bad just nervous and barky all night. our dog that died earlier this year we gave her anxiety meds, fireworks/storms/etc. absolutory destroyed her (she loved halloween tho, all the guests were to see her)
Anyone ever manually expressed their dogs anal glands? Like the way that you stick your finger up your dogs ass and squeeze it like a grape. Romeo's been licking his ass a lot.
I recall my buddying telling me about his experience doing it and hard pass. I'll gladly pay the vet to do it and they'll trim their nails while they're at it.
yeah I've never met anyone who did the anal gland expression themselves and wanted to do it again, paying the vet is the way to go, too damned messy and smelly
I had it done at the last check up for my older dog and if I remember correctly, it was pretty cheap to do.
Rough for me to come into this thread after Redford passed in the Summer of 2022. Still have Sky and just added this guy, Walker. Drove down to Maryland to pick him up from one of my employees who boutique breeds a litter a year. Wife couldn’t handle another Aussie, because she feels it would be a replacement.
I have a question, my girl is very active so I go on long walks in the woods with her. Today after her second walk she looked ok but 30-min after the walk/run she kind of looked weird, her head was shaking a little and then she started to lose her balance a little. She is 5 month old and it happened a few times already after lots of exercise. All of her test are good but the vet did not test for that and the first time I asked about it they kind of brushed it off. I am a little worried. She usually acts normal after a few hours of rest but I hate to see her like that. My researches on google leads to eic but she is not a lab. anybody has any idea what it could be?
From everything I have "heard" it is too soon for that much activity with a puppy and she is likely not fully vaccinated? How long are your walks?
i took 2 walks that were around 50 min each I think you are right, it’s just hard to gauge. Sometimes one hour is not enough. Some other times it’s plenty enough, she was really something yesterday and today so I pushed a little. She always looks fine during the walks
How long are the walks? Could be just exhaustion? I have to moderate my desire to tire my guy out. 10 month old lab and on days where we have a lot of free time I have to fight the urge to work him (throwing the ball / walking) more than 75 minutes in total for the day. One huge day isn’t a problem but if it’s day after day, they can definitely feel it. Consider adding some low physical stress mental exercise like practicing commands or playing with a toy without having them run around? Could be something more serious, and your dog is your dog so obviously I don’t know, but maybe give them a day or two off from heavy exercise and then see how they do after your walk in the woods?
I'm going to guess hopefully exhaustion. Think the rule of thumb is walks 2x/day at 5 minutes per month
I think I found the issue, the exercise was too much but she also ate some pieces of wood and a old rotten apple during the walk, she just threw up and I found the wood in there. It’s the same pattern all the time, I just forgot. Last time I found some leaves in there. She looks much better now. Let’s hope that was the problem. I will keep her on leash more from now on.
She also threw up a little piece of fabric that looked like a piece of a glove during the night, no wonder she was feeling weird.
Not telling you how to raise your dog, but off leash for a 5 month old puppy isn’t a great idea I don’t think. And yeah, like others have said, that’s a whole lot of activity at once for a puppy.
Good advice is always welcomed. You are right. She is really high energy since she is an English pointer. She is very good off leash in a controlled environment and with me. But I lose control when she sees people or another dog. And keep in mind that I do not walk her in the street, it’s always in the woods. No streets near.
I keep her more on leash now just to make sure she doesn’t eat every stupid thing she sees, and also to keep her more controlled. She doesn’t know when she is tired. She follows her instincts and run
This sweet silly girl didn't deserve what happened to her today. Squeak was innocent too, he didn't do nuffin'! Feels like we're letting go of some really good dogs lately.
This is the first time they have cuddled like this that I have seen. Was pretty certain they just tolerated one another because they had to
Hey, if you're an old like me and still have a Facebook account, my dog Ollie, AKA Oliver Taylor Pawkins would love your help getting into a calendar featuring the dogs in our community. All you have to do is scroll to find this picture and give it a like. Many thanks. Look at this post on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/share/p/rR1N56vaCbDsgdzN/?mibextid=qi2Omg If that link doesn't work, the post is at the top of this page. https://www.facebook.com/polyrhythmstudio?mibextid=ZbWKwL
#Cincinnati Bengals #Cincinnati Reds #Cincinnati Bearcats #Xavier Musketeers The above calendar supports our local SPCA, and Ollie is also a local rescue dog, so give him a hand, or a paw.
Got a working link to the post. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?st...WF5DaWDJMl&id=100063518802838&mibextid=Nif5oz
Yeah. I can't complain, seeing as how Snoop passed. I'll be honest, I gave Snoop a like, as well. I have friends with dogs on that list, and Snoop was my only vote other than my own. Anything from 1-12 gets Ollie a month. It'll be fun to get that.
do y'all tip when using Rover? i was happy with the people wathcing my dog but i'm already paying $140 for 3 nights after fees...
Got it. Just me, and I’m a sucker for my bff, if they were communicative/friendly, sent me some pics, he came home happy/healthy, and I planned to use them again, I’d definitely round up. Good help for important things isn’t always easy to find.
My dad is the most “dog person” I have ever known, and after his most recent dog passed 5-years ago it broke him. He has always been a Bernese Mountain Dog lover, and we’re exploring getting one now to go with our English bulldog. I told my dad about we had talked with a local breeder and they have three puppies left. He calls me yesterday saying he just put a deposit down on this guy and is now pushing us hard to get his sister. Spoiler
