My kids are finally old enough for a dog. Quite excited. Although we're like 0-4 on being able to meet promising pups at various rescues...all have been adopted within a day of posting. Must be a hot time
Picked up my GSP on Sunday. Named him Jasper. He's been incredible so far. Sweet demeanor, super attentive, and great with my three young kids. An unexpected perk with the breeder is he does not want his dogs boarded with a vet and put in the contract that he'll watch the dog for free whenever I go out of town
Y'all are making me feel guilty. I'll commit to fostering or adopting at least one rescue before buying another puppy from a breeder.
my girl is a mix but her dad is an English pointer, they share some similarities. Very good dog, very sweet and smart. You need to keep them active, they are very high energy and very social. 1 hour a day is the minimum and then some play time. She likes to eat our shoes though and she jumps on everything with her long leg. She stayed small, 40 lbs. I think a gsp can get to 60lbs. She is fast as hell i guess you already knew that but just wanted to share anyway. I hope you will keep posting here about jasper, I want to see exactly how similar it gets
She looks awesome. I've got a 6 yr old ridgeback. She's super chill and great with my kids. We got her when she was 2 due to an abusive home situation but she warmed up to us pretty quick. All that to say I've got no advice on puppies.
Our husky, who has been going to the same daycare 5+ years, and is one of their favorites, has been suspended for a week or two because he's starting fights now. Last week they said he was guarding the gate and wouldn't let anybody in/out. we left him overnight Saturday, and they said he was really good. yesterday they said he got into with a dalmatian and grabbed him by the neck He's always been pretty chill around us. he likes to stay outside on the porch, lay by himself. We used to get him out for walks and to the parks, but since we've had kids we don't have time for that. Dunno if he's acting out because the lack of attention, or what. he goes there 3x a week.
I know these dogs have crazy-high energy and need lots of exercise to avoid behavior problems. A lot of people think I'm crazy for getting a GSP with three kids six and under. I've committed to an hour walk every night and expect my oldest son and wife to help wear the dog out every day, as well. As long as the dog is kept active and I'm consistent on training, I think it's going to be a great dog. I haven't posted on here since my last pup passed, but I'll be back to share on Jasper. In memoriam of my last dog, a damn good dog: .
Yeah, not sure who he was fussing with previously. Last wednesday - issue friday - fine saturday/sunday - fine monday - issue Wife thinks it's cause we don't pay him much attention. He's never seeked out attention, from us. We'll give him a two week break, see how it goes when he returns.
i was a little scared of the amount of walking I would have to do when I first got her and realized she was almost a real pointer. But they are so fun to walk, it makes them so happy and they are social. I take her on a place that is a nice little trail and I got to know a few other good dog owners and when we see each other we let them play. This is the best for that type of dog, they need to socialize but not in a dog park.Of course some walks won’t be great but usually even if I do not feel like going when I see how joyful she it it makes it a positive thing. If your family is staying home all day and able to give him some stimulation you will be fine with a one hour walk at night. But they will need to stop him at some point because he won’t stop until it is made very clear that playtime is over
Today she walked for an hour, 55 minutes off leash with her boyfriend the malinois and they ran and wrestled almost all the time, it was fun to see i wish I could post some videos here
He is not to roam the yard. He either sits on the porch or sleeps there near the steps. We built a big ass fence in the back for him for free roam. He’d rather be on the porch. He’s broken free from the porch probably 5+ times. If you can talk some sense into him, by all means We also had animal control called on us years ago bc he was sleeping in the yard in the snow. Told us he needed access to shelter. If his leash is long enough, he gets tangled on our lights.
This is Beanie. She's about 9 months old. And she is me and my wife's emotional support animal today. And every other day.
dogs are so awesome, my gf and I get mad at each other all the time but with Lily we realize that when we fight too hard she gets scared so we both relax and we see how silly some arguments can be.
Not any more. It’s too hard with our kid situation and where we live. We have 8 month old twins and a 2.75 year old. Live in rural area, no sidewalk, car traffic is too fast to risk a walk. Would have to travel somewhere to walk. Goes to daycare3x a week. His days after daycare he’s so pooped he just rests. But recently he’s been acting up. first time in 5 years.
honestly only bc fortunate that we keep delta status that allows us to fly 1st everywhere, so he just sleeps in cabin. and a breed that sleeps 18 hours a day at minimum and he doesnt bark. Just put a male wrap around him if flight is longer than 6 hours, but he always holds it.
He's actually a spitting image of my last pup, posted below. We got gus at 8 years and this guy is 1, so I'll be thrilled to have more time with him if it works out
Yea he is hardly noticeable except thru TSA. Just have to get to skyclub. Most flight attendants dont even notice him until the end, and if they do he inevitably humps them. Otherwise we'd never take him, just sorta got lucky. Spoiler
