85 percent white boxer, 15 percent American bulldog. My wife’s prior dog was an American bulldog. We went to the shelter to look at another dog. I didn’t want to just get a carbon copy of her dog. But the dog we wanted to see was a bit too socially awkward. And this dog (we’ve named her Pearl) was an instant winner. She has come a long way from being a malnourished 1 year old. Spoiler
dump or anyone who might know. This pup is defeating the cone of shame (long body and can still reach). The onesies seems to have bad reviews. Could I just use a belly band to prevent him from licking his fixin' stitches? Or is there some alternative that works?
The only other thing I tried is the neck pillow, it might work for you but of the cone isn’t working I am not sure this will solve your issue
That’s awesome! Do they not require quarantining? I thought they were super concerned about canine diseases, but I guess that has become more lax? Also, is that a terrible towel under the drink?
Spoilering bc aint no one coming in here for anything other than cute pics Spoiler I think Quarantine is if you dont follow their process, which is compulsory for Delta. If your vet's practice has someone with USDA certification (think Notary Public for animals) its fairly frictionless. Like everyones dog is microchipped, vax'd, and the boozy dog parks these days all have broad vax requirements. UK didnt care at all. City of London did; but they just were trying to skim money. £500. Fair enough. Length of time there still made it cheaper to Bring him than Rover him. City of London had a representative waiting for us within steps of deplaning. He stamped our papers. Whereas, the UK government was supposed to check his papers at Customs Declarations but of course there was no one working the Customs desk at 6am and there were 2 RocknRoll bands ahead of us calling the hotline trying to get their equipment in while I had de facto Livestock wanting to take a massive poo. I am sure Europe is more buttoned-up, so thank you Brexit. Costa Rica only other country we've done and it was easier. Nominal costs. They accepted 3yr Rabies, Uk did not. And Tico Customs person scratched his ass rather than check his papers. I think America cares more about quarantines and health advisories, but hard for them to restrict travel of a citizen. And we would never take him to a heightened alert country (like our Cuba trip this yr lol).
i have nothing but I will give you my two cents, dogs learn better with positivity and after exercising. So you need to correct backwards and really reward the good things and ignore (to a certain degree) bad behaviors. Also socializing with older dogs really helped my girl.
For example she has a tendency to jump on people because she loves everyone, when we meet some dog friends they correct her and do not let her jump on the owner, she learns way faster like that than if I trained her
Yeah, you do not know my dog lol. She is not your normal little dog, she is excited as hell all the time. I can do it, but whenever she sees other people they do not know what to do and she is way too happy to see them. you would have no issue dealing with her cause you know how to bring the energy down but most people don’t and I have no control over it right now
She feeds off the energy of other people so if someone is excited to see her she brings it up another notch. Very good dog though, I have no complaint. We will figure it out
Another advice Nug even if you have bad experiences keep socializing the dog, they are not different than us, at first it can be ackward but they get comfortable if you keep doing it. It’s all part of growing up
the key for this one is you have to surround the dog with ppl that are going to reinforce the training; bc they will identify who is responsive to the jumping up on. instruct groomers/sitters of the key rules you are working on; parents as well. My mom never does the turn the back method and he is 5. Pisses me off. So of course he jumps on her.
Update. Our new GSP pup, "Jasper," has been a delight. Already coming and sitting on command. The unexpected blessing has been how he has taken to our middle child. While the puppy has the expected hyper streak of a GSP puppy and likes to nip and play aggressively, he doesn't do any of that to our middle child. Our middle child is very sensitive, prone to meltdowns, and needs more personalized care and attention than our others. It's almost like God knew that boy needed a dog and gave us one that would love and protect, and be patient with the boy. They have a crazy tight bond and are inseparable.
This is always my biggest problem Nobody else will listen and do what I ask them to, not even my wife or boy. So guess what? She jumps on everyone but me. Then when they see her not jump on me I get "why does she only listen to you?"
Took the pup on a walk today and he quickly snapped something up in his mouth. Reached in there to pull it out to find it was dog shit
fun Times, at least it wasn’t human shit like I had to wash off my dog a few weeks ago. She basically rolled in it too
man my dog hates Larry from Shelby on Finebaum something about that photo triggers the shit out of him
Concepts of thoughts and prayers for my girl Lulu. Hind leg removed today and poor thing is miserable. Fucking bone cancer……
My eldest daughter and son in laws 11 year old bulldog is having a lot of health issues and I am afraid they’re going to have to make a hard decision soon. Idk how you talk to someone and tell them their love is becoming selfish. I don’t know how you have that conversation especially to someone who loves their dog as much as my son in law loves Nidas. He treats him like a child.
this is a really tough one, I think you will just need to bring that up organically at some point and show him that his dog is not having fun anymore. i hate that for you man, I hate everything about losing a dog in a family. except for the stronger bond that comes with dogs after you finally morn properly and realize that this journey was just a positive
We are a little over 48 hours from picking her up from her surgery. She is absolutely thriving like nothing happened. Just amazed at her resilience. So I am cautiously optimistic about phase 1. Phase 2 is chemo, luckily my wife insisted on pet insurance and the doctors say chemo doesn’t affect dogs adversely like us.
2 months ago, my wife and I had 2 dogs. Today we have none. Both ours have died basically out of nowhere in separate incidents, both times the vet said there was nothing we could've done. Our lab/shepherd mix was 14 so while it sucked, it was not that surprising because he had been starting to really show his age, but our corgi who passed this morning was younger and we really thought she had a few more years. Hug your pups today and give them a treat, never know how long you'll have with them
We had taken her to the vet I believe 3 times over the last couple of months since our lab mix died. They said she had a UTI and she did a course of antibiotics which didn't help. We got a second opinion that said it was a specific type of UTI which needed different meds. She took the new meds and seemed like she had basically fully recovered but then she just went downhill again rapidly over the last few days. We were gonna take her to the vet again in the morning but my wife decided she couldn't wait last night so she took her to the emergency vet and she just stopped breathing while they were working on her. Didn't pay for an autopsy we're fairly strapped for cash anyway so we can't spend the money just to satisfy a curiosity. We did everything we could think to do for her.
Three weeks with Fiddle. She's approx doubled in size Spoiler She wasn't so sure about the snow: First trip to the pet store this afternoon:
If anyone wants a 2 year old shepherd we have a great one at HSSW. She's house trained, crate trained and awesome with other dogs. We use her for play groups and dog testing every day. She's fearful of anyone she doesn't know but warms up to people almost immediately once she knows you're not a threat. She's also free.
Had our first dog training session today. It was pretty amazing what a good trainer can do in a really short time
Put down our family dog today. He was 12 and we knew he was nearing the end (just slowing down over the last few months). He took a nose dive the last 48 hours and I knew this morning it was time. Hug your hounds once for me please.
Condolences Troy Barnes and AHebrewToo I've been there. It sucks, but know you gave them the best possible life. Those dogs won the lottery, I know yours did and I know mine did. Best animals in the world
