Daph started limping really badly on her rear right leg two days ago and it continued yesterday. but it's not all the time so i think it's mostly a function of hip issues or something. i've stopped throwing the ball for her and am trying to get her to stop playing and rest but it's hard. she's 11 and a little overweight now but not drastically so. not sure if i need to take her to the vet or not.
My 7 year old golden is going through the same, she has bad hips anyway but something’s got it really hurting today, didn’t eat much and doesn’t want to get up. We’re gonna give it a day or 2 and then maybe take her to the vet. Poor girl.
no, nothing that i could tell. on friday night, i went to grab the dinner i ordered in my building's parking lot and i came back upstairs 2 min later and she was elevating her back right paw (so maybe it's not hips?). even late that night when i took her pee before bed, she was back to using the leg normally but then i noticed her not putting weight on it midday saturday after a nice slow walk in the morning. so idk. i'm traveling for the next two weeks, unfortunately. but i'll have my dog watcher monitor it and then will likely take her when i'm back home. she has a ton of energy and has had pretty good health (ignoring all of the tumors all over her now) but a shot to make her better would be great.
my parents dog was very very active, a little springer, he was starting to have issues around that age and not sure how many shots he was getting per year but he lived confortably until he was 15 years old. Of course you need to also adjust how he exercises though, high energy dogs need to be protected from themselves sometimes
So on January first my dogs paw was grabbed by our neighbors dog under the fence. They always bark at each other but I guess this time the paw got on neighbors side and the dog latched on. Had to get stitches and stuff from emergency vet bc he was bleeding pretty bad. Two weeks later he is almost healed, hears dog next door and takes off running and immediately yelps and is limping. Torn acl. Expensive month
damn dude :-( Every time my dog limps I think of this thread and immediately assume it is a torn ACL. Been lucky so far.
Hindsight being 20/20 he has been periodically limping for an about a year. We always thought it was his nails bc he is always breaking them. Thinking prolly he had some partial tear and finally snapped
fortunately we have pet insurance that covers a lot (but the premium is expensive), but my white boxer / american bulldog mix is the same. vegetarian diet, easily upset bowels and skin, extremely sensitive to allergies. wild.
whats your medication rotation rn? i do immunotherapy injections + apoquel + and obviously prescription food
had same issue with my basenji he was 3 when he had surgery, 12 now still hauls ass like a maniac...only issues he's ever had is in colder weather it can bother him a little bit but he can still juke like P-Dubb
Mine is 8 days post surgery and already trying to run. They say he should be 85-90 percent of normal. He is already testing the limits too much so we are having to kennel him. Poor dude just doesn’t understand why he can’t run. Making him grumpy too
I've been charged by a Pitbull with intent to maul twice and now this week I've had a German Shepherd come at me with bad intentions. My butt puckered harder with the German Shepherd even though the Pitbull would likely have done more damage.
My old man Ody took a spill on the ice this morning. He's nearly 17 and already has a weak back end, but he's never lost his spunk. He favored one foot in particular this morning. Gave him some pain meds and rested for the afternoon. When he next tried to stand he was really struggling. I've had to carry him out to pee. He did manage to the first time. He couldn't do much of anything the second. Fed him is dinner in his bed so he wouldn't try to stand. He'll be going to the vet first thing in the morning but I fear at his age this may be the end. He's had a hell of a run if so.
Overnight it's become clear one toe in particular is broken. Very swollen. And he managed to cut it mildly this morning again trying to stand and potty outside. But, if there's nothing else wrong he may just beat it. Appointment in 45 minutes to get him checked out further.
So to my surprise Ody doesn't have any broken bones. Thought for sure that toe was. Probably a strain and just some bruising/pain. He's getting some meds and rest this weekend, staying on the farm with him to rehab him for a bit. If he doesn't seem to improve or regain some ability with that foot, then we may have some tough decisions to make. X rays did reveal all the things I figured he had, hip dysplasia and degenerative discs in his back all causing arthritis. So that fall probably hurt real good
It's really a miracle. This dog lived in the fraternity house and I'm on the wrong side of 35. Outlived all the other pets my family and friends had and many that came after him. It's been quite a full life for him whenever the time comes.
just brought this little guy home today to foster and most likely adopt. No idea on his background or breed mix. 12 weeks old and 16lbs.
If only I was smart enough to post some vidéos of my girl, she would have so much fun with this dude. She can run
So fun to see them progress My girl is far from perfect yet but she could say the same for me :) , 1.8 years old and i feel like she has been in my life forever
Went to the pound today so many good boys and girls. Wish I could take them all home. Groot’s vet is at the shelter so that’s why I was there. Idk if I’ll get another dog after Groot but if I do I am thinking of adopting instead of buying.
My mom lost her dog a year or two ago and said losing her broke her heart and she’d never get another dog again. A few months ago she started volunteering at a shelter and found a 2-3 year old dog that had been abused pretty badly and had been at the shelter for a long time. My mom said it was like a switch went off in her brain and brought her home last week.
Definitely recommend adopting. There are so many overloaded rescues and if you do enough research, you can find any breed you want.
That's awesome. The gf wants a girl dog next whenever we get to that point but we've got 3 boys at the moment and no room for more. I just want another shelter dog. I'd love to one day get a senior or special needs shelter dog but I know that can be difficult.
Yea, this little guy puts us at 2 cats and 2 dogs. My wife still wants to foster pups, but I told her I'd like to wait and foster one of the "hospice" dogs, or one of the dogs that's been at the shelter for years and years and just let them finally be able to enjoy life for their remaining years. We fostered 3 pups at the same damn time in a freaking two bedroom apartment last year and that was pretty rough . Now that we have a house with a fenced in backyard we'll be more likely to keep fostering.
