Yeah, you want a hero who isn't very farm dependent and has an escape mechanism. Dark Seer can still farm like crazy with Ion Shell in that type of setup.
Just played a game laning as bane with a pudge. It's probably not viable, but it seemed strong as fuck. We were in hard lane so I'd ward the neutral creeps, and when they tried to pull I'd sleep one then pudge would pull the other and with both our ults they were dead in a heartbeat.
everything is viable in pubs. Pudge paired with any hero who can immobilize will ruin lives, if the Pudge is any good at all.
Went like 0-3 last night. Wrong side of a stomp each time. Going to take a break from this game for a bit... Supported a jugg with warlock top dire lane. he died so much to silencer he didn't have the mana to ult. Said he died because "he didnt have support". Bot lane OD also fed hard 1v1 vs a sniper. Frustrating because obviously these guys are at my "skill level" since I match make with them, but I know I am better and should be playing with better. Used to have a 40 game lead on wins vs losses. It is probably around 10 now because of games like this.
I literally have zero idea what anyone is talking about when they talk about this game. Learning curve seems super steep.
It is. It can be pretty overwhelming starting out, even coming from LoL. I still have a hard time sometimes picking a good hero to counter a lineup or items to buy and I've been playing for years. Best thing to do would play a few custom games vs bots until you understand the basic mechanics. Pick one hero or hero role (I'd suggest a support) and get ok at that hero/role and then do some games with humans versus bots. Then you can move maybe watch a few youtube videos (like in OP or I could probably find some) that will make more sense because you'll know the lingo. After that you just gotta play and learn what each hero can do and their strengths/weaknesses.
What is a good beginner hero that isn't awful, but isn't super difficult to play. I mean, I've played tons of RTS's, MMO's, FPS's, etc. I'm not a computer gaming newb, but this game seems intense.
http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/Lich As was stated earlier, Lich is a good one. First off, he is ranged so that provides you a cushion from enemy heroes, creeps, towers, etc. He has a high base move speed (315?), most heroes are around 300. You have an ability Sacrifice that kills a friendly creep (thus denying the enemy of gold and exp which proves VERY useful in the beginning of the game) and keeps your mana high. You have a nuke that does decent damage and slows, and since you gain a lot of mana from sacrifice, you can use it liberally to harass the enemy heroes to try to force them away from gaining exp and gold. You have Frost armor (usually skilled last) that provides good armor, important to survive versus physical damage, and slows people when they attack you so you can run away easier if they cannot stun or slow you. You can cast frost armor on allies so it really helps out late game when physical damage is growing stronger and not everyone has the HP to survive. Lastly, you have your ultimate Chain Frost. You shoot a big ball of ice out that ping-pongs between enemy units. During a team fight, you just use your ult and that is literally all people want you to do. If you manage to get two heroes alone with that ult, you will likely get a double kill.
That's if you want to watch it live in the client. You can watch it for free after it's over or you can find a streaming site to watch it live. the real reason you would pay to watch it in the client is that you can get prizes for watching in the client and those prizes tend to be quite valuable.
the game was over at 20 min, so that's not that bad. Naga ults in, cancels the ult while dark seer vacuums and tidehunter ults. after the tide ult, enigma blackholes and catches everyone while jugg spins and rubick steals tide ult
is it wise to put $ into a beta? I assume when the game actually releases (if it ever does) that the items will stay?
The items are staying, from everything I've seen. This is not beta in terms of how WoW does a beta. Also the cost to watch a stream is usually used to funnel money back to the organization who is running the tourney to help. You also sometimes get a cosmetic item or courier for paying for the ticket. Just helps fund future endeavors.
watched the video in the op of gameplay learned a little, realized way more that I didn't know read the you suck at dota thing, said it'd take 100+ hrs of gameplay and playing each 102 heroes more than once to not be awful WHO HAS THIS MUCH TIME
another game we should have won at 25 minutes ends up going to 50 and we lose to drow/naix jesus christ fuck this game.
brick you still mad at me? lol i swear i'm better than what you saw. that was the first melee hero i tried.
I tend to get flustered while playing and then forget about it 10 minutes later. I still have no idea how we won that game.
we gotta get enough people together so we can do tmb inhouses. There's various handicap settings we can use to make sure the teams arent too unbalanced
