messed around with a treads-echo sabre Tide build this afternoon and really liked it. https://www.opendota.com/matches/4185058980/overview Pretty much the only thing I hate about tide is that as an offlaner he is completely worthless for hitting buildings. The treads immediately make you a lot stronger in lane than arcanes, and treads + the echo sabre means your right clicks actually hurt a bit. ES also helps make up for the mana issues caused by not going arcanes. That +250 damage talent is hilarious too. Near the end we won a teamfight where their cores were dead for 35 more seconds with no BB, but our PA died and it was just me and Zeus. I still took 2 lanes of racks in that time, lol.
skiedfrillet RonBurgundy have you noticed the support brewmaster at ESL? i'm ahead of my time. i may coach one of these top dota teams.
https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4189031319 maybe my best game ever everyone in the game was within 1-2 stars as me and i dominated it
-Play Nyx -Have Techies as your lane support against a jugg and Warlock -Other team has a ward between jungle and lane -Techies repeatedly tries to suicide bomb Jugg from vision -Jugg repeatedly sees him do it and just presses q before Techies lands. Techies then dies to blade fury. -"Bro, just stop trying that. We can't kill him." -Techies feeds their lane 7 kills before the 9 minute mark. -Jugg gets a 13 minute battle fury and completely murks us. https://www.opendota.com/matches/4188599382/log
I went arcanes/Dagon5 Disruptor in turbo last night and went 15-1. Thunderwave with talents then glimpse then Dagon = dead
I used to spam disruptor when you got the q talents at 10 and 20 rather than 15 and 25. 1100 damage every 9 seconds for 130 mana. lol
My smurf is not on your friends list, but i can give you the Steam ID and you can play turbo with me until I get enough for ranked games
chaos knight seems op at low pub levels this is my first game with it after a quick turbo with ron earlier in the night https://www.opendota.com/matches/4194158047
Hardest I've ever destroyed anyone in lane. 86 CS and 25 denies at 10 minutes. https://www.opendota.com/matches/4200360565/laning Weaver with 240 gpm and ended the game 0-7-0 lol
Yeah, I actually hit it because of party queue, but I've been grinding solo this week and am about to surpass it again with that. (At least, that's what I think it means when under the icon it started at 40% toward next rank and has been going up by 3-4% per win; 97% now)
Also, you can gain a bunch of mmr at this level just by getting a stout shield and quelling blade on cores in lane. So many people skip them because they're greedy, and they give you such a giant advantage in last hitting/trading that you can snowball the lane by the 3rd or 4th minute.
Been practicing Huskar, probably my worst non-Meepo hero. I’ve played 9 turbo games with him, and I totally understand how enemy lineup dependent he is. You can go ez 19-0 or 0-10
wtf?? i get somewhere between 0%-2% per game. honestly, the only way i've increased rank in the past couple of months is by party queue. solo queue is so slow.
i started today at 23% and played six ranked matches. i went 4-2 and ended the day at 27%. i don't know if it's based on my low mmr (like 425) or my low rank (guardian 4) but gaining rank via solo queue is impossible. i gained 0%-2% on each match and they did not correlate with winning nor performance.
What is your solo and party MMR? I’m assuming your Party MMR is closer to 1K? your badge is supposedly a combination of the two, with more weight given to your highest MMR of the 2, so in your case your Party MMR. so when you gain solo mmr 425->450 it’s saying you are barely making a dent in your ~1K badge. When you gain party MMR it’s vs higher MMR players so it’s weighted more than solo. Versus my solo MMR is ~3300, so when I win it adds 8-9% per win, and when I win party ranked game (~2600 mmr) it doesn’t budge my MMR % to next badge since player average mmr is lower
Also thanks Handcuffed for talking me into playing 1 more game so you could IO, and I end up playing as bb vs fucking KOTL, BS, Drow and either have 0 fucking mana due to mana leak or are perma-silenced. And our Lich had legitimately never played dota before. What a miserable shit show of a game. I almost sat in fountain I was so worthless by the end
My R key on my keyboard is fucked up right now and only works about 1 out of every 5 times I press it and I have to press it really hard. Looks like I'm spamming Tiny/Abaddon/Bristle until I get this fixed
How long did it take y'all to learn DoTA? I thought about DLing it, but not sure I have it in me to completely learn a new MOBA. DoTA has the reputation of having the most depth/complexity. I only know SMITE of the 4 big ones. Do any of y'all play LoL or Smite as well, or just DoTA?
I downloaded dota and was immediately the best player on tmb scrubs like Name P. Redacted and @bricktop like to think they're the best, but we all know who really sits atop the throne
I've been playing for 5 years and I feel like I'm still learning. I'm also pretty shit, so take that fwiw.
Overwhelming at first but if you focus on a limited hero pool it makes it significantly easier. The actual mechanics aren’t that different than most mobas in terms of overall understanding. TPs can bring you instantly back to base or to any tower or shrine on the map which I believe is unique to other mobas and the ability to kill your own lane minions/creeps to “deny” the gold and exp so your opponents don’t get them are fairly unique. It is more complex than any other by far but more rewarding imo. Not overly difficult to learn but definitely not the easiest. Expect to be learning new things even after 100s of hours of gameplay.
Also if you play a couple of bot games you should get a pretty good idea of whether it’s too “complex” to learn.
SMITE is probably one of, if not, my favorite game of all time. I love it. It's my first MOBA, and I've logged more hours into it than I'd like to admit. I now know what every god's (or playable characters) 1, 2, 3, and ult do. I know their passives. I know every item, and when to build what and why I'm doing it. I love it. Did any of y'all ever play LoL? How does it compare? This is a DotA thread, so I know which game you prefer, but I'm curious as to why. Did any of you who play DotA not play WoW? I played WoW, never even hit level 70 I don't think, and when I tried to watch the movie, I was completely in the dark. Does that matter at all?
Never played WoW. Tried LoL, was a weeb version of dota with less complexity, wasn’t for me. There’s a big reddit thread on the dota subreddit about people switching from other mobas.
Downloading DotA now. You guys have convinced me. It may be a while before I can actually play with anyone for the following, mostly overlapping, reasons: 1) Insecurity. I'll be embarrassingly bad. Need to get comfortable playing on my laptop first. 2) Want to learn at least the basics before diving into multiplayer. I can't imagine a game that's been around so long has many people as green as I'll be. 3) My first omnipotent (right word?) view MOBA, I'm used to 3rd person. I'd imagine this affects strategies. 4) I'll be playing mostly during the workday, so will need to figure out how to work it in. Once I'm confident enough in my ability to suck publicly, I'll post itt.
If you want a good overview of basics, YouTube series Day9 Learns Dota with Purge coaching is really great at basics that are slightly different from other MOBAs Also start with bot matches When you start playing vs humans consider muting all chat for awhile. Also, Turbo matches are basically double the normal exp/gold so games take half as long, but are definitely not “real” dota matches, but are pretty quick hits to get experience
I'm familiar enough with toxicity in SMITE, and apparently it's realllly bad in all MOBAs. It's honestly kind of shitty, with games that have such a big learning curve it probably causes many people to quit before learning the games, which is kind of shitty. I'm definitely in the "more the merrier" camp to keep this genre rocking. That's all to say, yes, I'll definitely be using the mute feature. Is the map the same in a turbo match versus real dota match?
