Another word of advice that I wish I learned when I was starting. If you have toxic teammates, just mute them and move on with the game. You'll have a much better time.
The beauty is that everyone starting out in this game is shit. Even people at my mmr are still, relatively speaking, shit. They're never going to accept this reality though, and will be shitty and toxic to garner some level of satisfaction from the game. Mute everyone.
Also, explore heroes to find one you like since they are all different. It took me forever to find out that I enjoyed playing Riki, bloodseeker, slark, Sven and antimage, and that I am actually cancer incarnate on the dota2 universe. Some people love to play spirit breaker and bounty hunter, and I basically accept an instant loss if I play those heroes
I'm not sure how much Dota I'm actually going to play. It's a fairly fun game but I was more of an fps player and I play in sub-optimal conditions (7 year old 13" mac). I just like following the competitive scene a bit. I like Shadow Shaman (in an offlane/core-type role with aghs) and Lina (because I can combo her stuns) so far, too. But I was dual-laned last night by a CK and a PL (while my LC jungled) and I had no idea wtf to do as Lina. I ended up just feeding a bunch. So here's a beginner question: how do I get Enigma's little guys he creates to auto-attack things? If I jungle and create them, is there a button that selects just the little guys and attacks creeps? Or goes to lane and attacks creeps?
You can set groups in the hotkey options menu. I just have 2 keys set for micro. One for all units, and one for everything but my hero. Really should be all you need. As for Lina against a PL/CK lane- there's really nothing you can do other than stay way back and try to get last hits with her first spell. If you get in range of them, PL nukes/slows you, CK stuns you, and you're just dead.
can you screen shot what that looks like in Settings? honestly, dota's Settings are not super clear. (though this is my first RTS i've played. or MOBA. or whatever this is.)
2 ways to do it, there's an option in settings for a button to select hero (default f1) and a button right underneath it in options for select all other controlled units. Or, the first time you spawn the eidelons, just select the group of them with mouse and push control + hockey you want. I set ctrl + 1 as hero, ctrl+ 2 as eidelons and ctrl+3 all units, then pushing 1 is just enigma, 2 is eidelons and 3 quick selects all units.
But it's not my fault. I just always get stuck with worthless teammates. Especially when I 5stack with you guys
Enjoyed my one game of Sand King tonight. Think he'll be my go-to hero. Sand storm the waves. His stun is easy and it works as an escape.
Sand King is a great hero. One of those first pick worthy heroes that's good in almost any lineup and can play multiple roles.
Boy was this match fun https://www.dotabuff.com/players/391512590/matches https://www.dotabuff.com/players/377850962
wtf is the point of going that high Like it's impossible that he couldn't have had every single set from the pass about 95000 levels ago
PPD is the best analyst in the game so him there as talent is great. I was never into Starcraft so I don't really get the appeal of Day9. I've watched his stream a bit and he's okay. RedEye is better. Machine is good, too. I wonder if it's Valve's attempt to grow the game (as Day9 is well-known).
I'm sure that went into it. Having Day9 as one of the faces of dota can only help as he has a huge audience and pretty much everyone seems to like him. (Plus I also get that Redeye had a bit of a monopoly going on hosting dota events and they want to diversify)
Amazing that PPD is invited as active CEO of a team. But, he's amazing as on air talent so Great decision. No GrandGrant which is a bummer but not a shock. I will be on later too.
So I started watching/playing dota before TI6, but wtf does Pyrion Flax have to do with T1 dota nowadays? Lumi? Also, pumped for Day9
