85 on metacritic is gonna be enough for me to play it especially since its winning over the deep dive CRPG YouTubers I follow for character builds
Other reviewers seem to be more kind, but he gives multiple examples for each complaint he has. It was a good watch and kind of confirms some of my worries for what this game was going to be
I'm going to play it at some point, I'm sure. I'm willing to overlook combat or level design issues for a game like this, as long as it has strong story and dialog. It seems like there's almost no meaningful decision making in this game and almost no connection with the side content and main content. After completing a main quest, you just get a huge dump of various side quests and the characters basically say multiple times that "we need to do this to get stronger for the main stuff." He showed combat where he was fighting enemies 15-20 lvls higher and just not having to worry about heals or any sort of strategic combat approach. Pretty much just a whittle their health down type of combat where you activate the same squad abilities over and over.
Who are these deep dive guys? I’m interested to see their takes. fextralife was denied a code due to some very mild issues expressed after the preview. He thinks the initial reviews are curated. Makes sense being that Ralph’s review won’t make it to metacritic.
I would also like to watch some deep dive people talking about this game. Someone post some in here, please and thank you.
I’d like to see if CRPGbro is going to do a review because imo he’s the best of them and 100% the only reason I was able to understand 2e pathfinder and realize Wrath of the Righteous is a solid game with a good story
FWIW this release date is killing me I have a wedding this weekend and gotta hang with the tykes Thursday The Rolling stone review sounds like a major return to DAII to me and I’m super good with that. I am sad about the lack of choice carryover means I don’t get to see Varric exaggerate the size of Bethany’s boobies again
The only thing consistent throughout all the reviews is about the ending being really well done. Apparently the last 2 or 3 hours is incredible.
Definitely more positive than I thought. Looks like my YouTube algorithm fed me mostly negative ones for some reason.
What’s interesting is even the people that “didn’t like it” are on their second playthrough, I think it’s gonna be really good and feel like 1 & 2 plus ME2 which imo we’re never for the masses to begin with
I am starting to worry this game isn’t going to be dark and is going to feel like Disney’s Dragon Age. too many uWu white kids who want all the media they consume to make them feel cozy and every character to be baby girl coded so this is going to be interesting if I actually vibe with the story since I typically want darker elements in the games I play
And naturally there were choices that made the game much darker but I cleansed the circle, and banished alistair maybe 1 time 2 it was unavoidable for Leandra to get frankensteided, the wrong decision would easily kill your sibling, you could kill Varrics sibling, you could kill your uncles illegitimate daughter you could tranquilize a couple different people, blow up a church, and a start a war between mages and templars
I loved DA:O so much. 2 was fine, and probably over hated. Inquisition was somewhere in the middle. But I just can’t bring myself to buy this new game. EA and BioWare really epitomize what is wrong with gaming today. And knowing that the care and attention to detail that went into Origins (along with actual world building and character development) is going to be absent in this game, I’ve lost any interest in playing. And this is coming from someone who named their cat Morrigan
even the negative reviews say this is the best part of the game but it’s absolutely wild behavior to name an animal after a franchise and quit engaging in that franchise
None of you have even played it yet, right? I don't watch/listen to many videos, really just care what a few select people say. Are the reviews generally negative, or is it just a handful of reviewers saying it's too light?
the reviews are mostly positive but there are some negative points about the tone and the dialogue that are making some of us old school RPG dudes sweat a little bit
can’t play till 11 CST which is when I’m leaving town for a wedding, but aggregated review is an 84. I’ve seen very few reviews at an 8, most positive reviews are a 9 or above, most negative views are 7. I’ve seen one 60 but even that review said it was a game worth playing. Most reviews be them 9 or 7 are raving about the story and the companions. Some knocks on the main character and the fighting mechanics. One review in particular said the rogue and warrior classes really outshone the mage class in combat, I suspect their gripe with the mage class (that auto lock was dropping when enemies moved quickly) could be patched later.
FWIW I’ve been a been a BioWare shill since I played the first mass effect, the only thing I’ve hated that they have done is the ending of ME3 (for DA and ME didn’t play anthem) I think often the distance between their games lets people build up this unrealistic nostalgia for what the last game was.
Do you think it's because today's society is so fragile, and they were afraid of blow-back if it were "too dark?"
I think it’s even wilder to continually blindly support a company who has proven time and time again to pump out pure shit. I wish I had any interest in playing. But the game just looks…awful.
I'm waiting to play this on PS5 Pro. I'd love to play on PC, but feel I need something stronger than a 3070 Ti
you’re starting to see western RPGs written by the generation that only read Harry Potter and believe no one should ever be challenged or deal with morally gray characters in the media they consume People who think persona is a good comfort game are writing games now it’s scary
Ok there’s some quippy dialogue for sure but there’s definitely some that dark body horror shit that origins had in it too It’s solid is far, facial animations are real bad though also the game treats you like an idiot, I thought Atreus talking every 15 seconds was bad this is like every 3 seconds
Cohh, who I also trust his opinions, also thinks the writing is pretty bad. Does think they are playing it way too safe, and agreed it's like a watered down marvel movie. Gameplay and visuals are great.
