There was a new 400 unit song released on Bandcamp today. Not sure if it’s on the new album or if separate
Just watched Spoiler nothing crazy revealing if you read the article from a few years back about the problems he and Amanda were having, but definitely enjoyable. Cool watching some of the songwriting/recording process
It's separate. From the cutting room floor of the Reunions recording sessions and is featured in the doc.
Currently watching. I’ve really enjoyed this and the other Music Box docs I’ve watched (Woodstock ‘99 and Alanis).
Watching the doc right now and I was at the acoustic show with Jason and Amanda that was shown near the beginning of the show. That was my last show before the pandemic. Pancho and Lefty was great and Amanda had a solo song that was fantastic.
That’s pretty funny that his 4 year old’s favorite songs were Anxiety and Oh Well the Fleetwood Mac cover
Would love to see more of that old DBT film. And a documentary of him making southeastern. They did a phenomenal job
And then it was a direct consequence for one of his best songs he’s written (and ultimately where we are today) I’ve seen Cover Me Up live a few times, but the solo open and then the drums joining and then the rest of the band is amazing.
Really enjoyed the songwriting insights that were shown and it just wasn’t one song. It Gets Easier is pretty underrated from Reunions and showcased on the doc.
Wikipedia says you are correct and she graduated in 2017 with an MFA in Poetry, no mention of under grad degree.
I'm not a fan of Amanda's music but I thought she came off great in the documentary. Way more likable than Jason.
The recording method was wild. Jason writes the songs then the first time the band hears it is right before they go invent their parts to it while they record
The recording of his last hurrah in Richmond(on high) was a shocker. Would have loved to have seen more of that. It never occurred to me that Cover Me Up would be a trigger for Amanda. Jason introducing his newly written songs to the band was very cool. With they would have included David Crosby coming in for What Have I Done to Help. very very cool documentary. And if you haven’t seen A Secret to a Happy Ending you’re doing yourself a massive disservice. It’s basically the prequel to this doc and really shines a light on Jason’s potential vs problems.
One of my favorite things to do because I’m a bad (or sick?) guy has always been to YouTube obscure Isbell/dbt footage from when he was in the wilderness.
I don’t like Death Wish. Mostly because of the drums, but it’s too noisy. I guess I really just want to hear Jason and his guitar.
Death Wish is one of the worst songs he's done, IMO. Middle of the Morning, however, has some really interesting vocals on it, which I like.
A lot has happened in the nearly twenty years since The Dirty South was released. All of these years later, it is still considered one of our best albums… Shortly after we left (New West), they restructured the label and the source of our turmoil moved on to other things. We are on excellent terms with the powers that be now and we were happy when they reached out to us about the idea of reissuing The Dirty South, enabling us to put out the album the way we had originally intended it to be. We have reconstructed the original sequence and concept as it was conceived. Where possible we preserved the original John Agnello mixes but remixed the bonus tracks and also fixed a couple of vocal issues that I have always regretted about the original version (for purists, those versions still exist out there, but this gave us a chance to present it the way I’ve always wished it could be)… This version finally allows it to be heard and seen the way we had always hoped and intended. - PH The Complete Dirty South is a band-led rework of the original album. Principal member, Patterson Hood, took the reins and reimagined this record as it was originally intended. The complete version features resequenced audio, three additional tracks, four remixes along with updated vocals. The packaging comes with a perfect bound book featuring liner notes from Patterson Hood, track by track descriptions from Mike Cooley and Jason Isbell as well as never before seen photos along with updated artwork from the late Wes Freed.
Don't love the new version of putting people on the moon. Vocal is worse imo. Very excited for the project overall though.
