I can’t imagine being an artist and living with the pressure of having to produce art that’s better than what came before it. Having said that, I’ve found Death Wish and this most recent single to be some of the worst music he’s released.
So that’s a song about racism, Covid lockdown, school shootings, and mental health so far? WMV positive case confirmed
Only one listen through, but this is song is amazing and clearly sticks out. Going back and reading the lyrics after I realized what it's about and that opening line is brutal and perfect.
Miles kicks ass, just went in for a second listen. The album feels a little uneven but I’m enjoying it
When We Were Close is my favorite Volunteer, Save the World, and King of Oklahoma… god damn I want to disconnect from everything.
From the Pitchfork (I know) review: Such nods to Isbell’s forefathers are deliberate: “When We Were Close,” his salute to the late Justin Townes Earle, is propelled by a riff that recalls Tom Petty at his most Floridian; it comes within spitting distance of such wild-eyed Southern boys as .38 Special.
besides Cast Iron Skillet, the singles he released early are my least favorite tracks on this album. Really like this after one spin, and my hopes were kind of low after the singles being meh and my overall lower opinion of Reunions compared to his earlier work.
Yeah, similar to Anxiety and What Have I done to help…when he gets so repetitive it loses me. But 12/13 isn’t bad
I find myself listening to King of Oklahoma, When We Were Close, and Vestavia Hills the most. Also really like Strawberry Woman, Volunteer, and Miles. Cast Iron Skillet still the best song on the album imo.
Is there some dark web ways to find videos that aren’t on YouTube any more? Trying to find Jason’s cover of The Pilgrim from Kris Kristoffersons tribute deal
“I was all set up to do it but some bastard beat me to it Ain't a copper pipe left on the lot Got a loan out on the truck but I'm runnin' out of luck And the title is the only thing I've got Molly's gonna leave me, says she don't believe me I got nothing left to lie about She's going back to Bixby, tired of trying to fix me Says I got some shit to figure out” This is so James McMurtry and I love it
Feels like the production is a tad simplistic without Cobb but the songwriting is leagues above Reunions
