It's so hard to pick the best song on Southeastern. There isn't a bad track on the album. Watching him on tour last year perform Cover Me Up with Amanda Shires on the stage resulted in so many feels
That was by far my favorite song that he played. I also love that the crowd always cheers when he sings "I sobered up, I swore off that stuff, forever this time."
this may be a scorching hot take but Prisoner is now on equal footing for me with Southeastern and I think it may be a tad better from start to finish
Have to go to NYC for work, which just happens to be when Isbell has a three night stand at the Beacon Theatre. I'm curious how many of his new songs we will play since the shows are in June.
I think both albums are great. Might be a tie for me in terms of quantity of songs I really enjoy. That's a conservative estimate. Think it's only 12 tracks, but easily 8-10 of those I find myself listening to often
I don't like this opinion. Liked your post just so I could unlike it. Baby I love you; get off of my goddamned back could be favorite line of the album
Heartbreaker is Adams' Southeastern imo. Prisoner is his best original work and most complete album since Gold.
There really isn't a bad track on Southeastern. My only beef is with Super 8, which is a good song on its own, but doesn't fit too well with the rest of the tracks IMO
I am. Ryan Adams has made a lot of great music over the years. Hell, if it weren't for him, I would not have gotten into half the shit I now love. And the added bonus is that he keeps making amazing music. But nothing will ever touch Heartbreaker and Gold. They're perfect records.
I recently saw a ranking of his albums that I agreed with right at the top: HB and then CR http://consequenceofsound.net/2017/02/ranking-ryan-adams/full-post/
Off Something More Than Free, I'm still a Speed Trap Town guy. "Well it's a Thursday night but there's a high school game Sneak a bottle up the bleachers and forget my name These 5A bastards run a shallow cross It's a boy's last dream and a man's first loss." I mean, come on. Too good.
Incoming hot take from me. Super 8 is my favorite, and I wish more songs had that up beat sound. The High Road is pretty good, but I want some harder tracks on this album.
Recently got into Isbell. Speed trap town is my favorite song of his. The parts about his father are so powerful
I quit watching Billions but apparently the showrunner is a huge DBT and has featured them and Isbell before. For that, I might pick it up again one day. Oh and Goddamn Lonely Love is GOAT
Can you guys think of any Isbell/DBT/Dawes/Adams songs that I could get away with playing at my wedding?
http://www.slate.com/articles/podca..._of_drive_by_truckers_on_his_long_career.html Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers stopped by to talk to Brian about how the group’s latest album, American Band, came to be just before the election. They talk about Patterson’s writing process; his influences, including Bruce Springsteen; and about the moment when Jason Isbell stood in for a set at a house show. Plus, Patterson plays “Ever South,” one of Brian’s favorite songs from the new album.
Stockholm would be pretty great imo I went to a wedding and they advertised that they were dancing to a Jason Isbell song...it was Mutineer
