I liked the set list. No DBT stuff, but I've never seen him do Relatively Easy or Songs That She Sang In The Shower. That's a fair trade off for me. And yeah American Girl was awesome
8:04 "24 Frames" 11:27 "Hope the High Road" 15:06 "Codeine" 21:51 "Molotov" 25:43 "Different Days" 30:34 "How to Forget" 36:28 "The Life You Chose" 40:23 "Cumberland Gap" 43:44 "Tupelo" 48:08 "Songs That She Sang in the Shower 54:03 "Cover Me Up" 1:00:55 "If It Takes a Lifetime" 1:05:13 "Super 8" 1:09:40 "Speed Trap Town" 1:15:59 "Relatively Easy" 1:21:24 "Flying Over Water" 1:26:26 "Anxiety" 1:36:43 "If We Were Vampires" 1:41:10 "American Girl"
If anyone wants mp3s of the Friday show that was livestreamed. http://www.mediafire.com/file/vf0lctajccq6cx8/JI-4.zip
you have to anticipate that eventually the DBT stuff and the songs he wrote while drinking too much will fall by the wayside in his setlists. just what happens with growing artists.
I don't anticipate Never Gonna Change, Outfit, Decoration Day, or Dress Blues ever leaving. Unfortunately TVA appears to be gone cause that's the perfect first song out on an encore. Alabama Pines is absent from those six sets as well. God damn he built a deep bullpen fast.
It’s on one of them but it should be on all of them. Alabama Pines is the song that helped him turn the corner and start to gain recognition with the Americana crowd.
Totally missed Al Pines. Agreed on GDLL. That's the first song I'm going to if introducing an alien to Isbell/DBT/art.
Got tix for 2/9 at the Fox in Atlanta, was very pleased Ms. Cotton was the one who reminded me to grab them.
Someone made a sortable worksheet where you can easily see all the songs played during the Ryman run, how often, etc.
so, i listened a lot of DBT for many years, but for whatever reason didn't get into Jason Isbell. i finally decided to sit down and listen to his solo stuff about a month ago, it after ignoring it for a long time and but yes i just bought 2 front-and-center tickets to his show in durham
This is cool. Guy Clark is pretty much my non favorite DBT related artist outside of John Prine. Good to see isbell following in his footsteps.
I'll be there as well. Altria Theatre is an awesome venue, pretty similar to the Fox in ATL, but about 1k less capacity.
Figured I'd drop this in here. Chris Porter, who put out a really good record a couple years back, died in 2016 in a car crash. The album he and his band were working on at the time got released today. Will Johnson (Centro-Matic) produced and played on it, as did Shonna Tucker, John Calvin Abney and others. Anyway, it's a great record. Can stream it here, figured most in here would dig it. http://bittersoutherner.com/first-listen/chris-porter-dont-go-baby-its-gonna-get-weird-without-you
"I live in Tennessee now so I'm going to need somebody to vote for me. Don't vote for me , I'm not running for office, but vote on my behalf because there's one particular family member that I take pride in cancelling their vote out every time something like this comes up. And I'd like to know I can tell him that again when I see him."
